I am fascinated by the organization Kenjay has aligned himself with, those that call themselves 'The Liberators'. If their ideals are as Kenjay insists and what their First Liberator, Aleksei Morgan, claims, I am eager to aid them and participate as best as I am able.

These many weeks since I have had my deepest fears confirmed, it is distressing to have this knowledge weigh on my mind; so much we have shared amongst our people, false knowledge bred by the need to control.

Perhaps that is the truth of it:

We are all slaves, in Eurus.

Now that it is nearly behind me, I can say rather definitively:

1013, for all of the opportunities it brought me, was a rubbish year for my personal life. I need to narrow down my focuses for 1014, else I shall likely be writing this same sentiment for the year to come. I'm grateful for the friends that I've made for helping me to get through the worst of things, but 1013 shall go on record for me as a year not forgotten, but certainly not to be dwelled upon.

May I retain the lessons more than the failures.

As night comes to the forest
I look to the leaf-littered floor
where the last sunlight casts
its hopeful sparks.

My big brother is, again, a father. Yet another little Lordling to spoil and to tell about all of his father's antics when he was younger. Because, little Lord Jonathan, I assure you your father had many interesting adventures as a boy, and got into more than his share of trouble. I shan't let him forget it, and when you get yourself into some inevitable scrape or another that he gives you trouble for, I will remind him of when he did precisely the same thing!

Strategy is a system of expedients.

It is more than a mere scholarly discipline: it is the translation of knowledge to practical life, the refinement of original thought into suit continually changing situations, and the implementation of ideas into reality. It is the difference between thinking of how best to tackle a problem and actually doing so successfully. It is what separates those who act from those who act efficiently.

And it is very straightforward: pick a general direction and implement it with every breath one has.

Sometimes a dream is beyond music, and I cannot capture it in ink. But it still lifts your heart. I wish I could capture in notes and chords the feeling of uplifted memory that remains when I open my eyes and it's morning, but I still recall.

There's a ball coming up and I feel obliged to attend because our cow did so well (My children insisted we enter). However, all my dresses are designed for Lycene slink which doesn't lend itself well to big-ass-belly-pregnancy-bulge. So I may have to get a new dress (I have some fabric) and have it with the adjustable laces on the side so I can still wear it after the fact.

Ah crap, I got no time, do I? That damn thing is in a day or two. Better hope I can find a rush tailor...

I see, some people are to be celebrated on their own page while others have to share. Someday I shall be celebrated on my own page in someone's journal.

I have been blessed with the patrons that have chosen me. Princess Reese was and continues to be a delight. Jadara-shizhe holds a special place in my heart.

They are luminaries. Pillars. A tough act to follow, to say the least.

I dismissed the idea of taking a protege time and time again - I am after all simply a commoner. Fairly well respected and with a most enviable position, but a commoner.

Besides, the responsibility you take up as a patron can be daunting. And I was worried - would I make a good patron? Would I be able to spare the time and efforts? Would my protege be well in hand?

Well. There is only one way to find out. And I will do my best.

Mistress Seren Walker is an able performer, and a talented jeweler. I did not mention her in my previous journal because she would get her very own page to celebrate her. She is a thrill, she is a joy.

And she is my protege.

I hope I will prove worthy of you, Seren. I hope I can raise you to such heights that you may touch the stars themselves.

I tend to favour Mistress Petal's shop, the Tangled Skein, when it comes to my fashion. But I do feel that as a Softest Whisper, and as someone who appreciates fashion as I do, casting my net wide is an important thing. There is so much talent in our fair city! And I love being garbed in the products.

Mistress Svana caught my eye a long time ago - I purchased a woolen dress that spoke to me, with a matching cloak and a belt pouch. I spoke to her, said I might call upon her to make me something similar, though in richer fabric.

Artshall Velvet is a very rich fabric, and Mistress Svana has expanded upon her work. To wear that garb thrilled me beyond belief, and I quite enjoy all the little touches and trinkets that come my way. Her husband, Master Asher, made a diadem I was quite enamoured with. I received that, too, the other day.

There are so many talents in this town. Mistress Ephrath has been another favourite. Mistress Caprice, Mistress Nina. I know I am missing names, and I shall endeavour to visit all the stores, and find something suitable for me in all of them.

I might just be wearing one of Mistress Svana's scents when I do so.

To the sound of moving water
I do not sleep but I dream
this is the song: that all songs
may be one song for they begin
as a single note to be chased
with different flourishes.
One song from many
as all dreams are one dream
as all dancers hold the same breath.

The nerve of some people! Suggesting that my clockwork griffon from Whitepeak be dismantled!?! Absolutely not! It is a priceless treasure from 800 years ago, and it is brass and beautiful and no one is dismantling it. It is to be loved and respected for the piece of history it is!

If they want a device to dismantle and put back together, I'll ask if I can have the clockwork bird that we built to help discover the dwarves. Beautiful family of five that they were, and so very glad we got to rescue them. I figure since I held the last lecture, even though it was private, and enough people attended, I can probably talk about it a small bit without getting too many side eye looks.

Better yet, I'll make a copy of the clockwork plans we used to create the clockwork bird, without certain notations included. They can study those instead, they'll be more informative.

There's a pile of fabric in my house and Raymesin won't stop pawing on it. Woke me up with the honeysilk in the most -unseemly- manner (I liked it, scholar, don't get me wrong) but hearing the man go on about how pretty it looked on my skin was something. What's a woman to do, when her man promises her -dresses- made of such beautiful stuff?

Well of -course- I said thank you, scholar. Here, let me draw you a picture-

For once this week, I indulged myself in 'what if'. What if I had said yes instead of no? What ifs, boundless as the stars; what would've beens, my mind full of them. What if life is as simple as a single, infinite moment? Of course, that's the guilty masochism of the what-if game. You can never know the answer to the question. You can only know the answer to one thing.

What is.

There is a distinct difference in the way that we raise her. And in the way that she treats each of us. Together in her presence, she strives to balance the expectations of manners and etiquette from myself, even as she is soon set to turn six. But when I have left, she turns into a craven little beast, that half the time seems to care not to listen to him. And yet, she is his heir and so, I hold my tongue. At least, from him and her. Now, her tutors, a far different thing. Gods help me, when I heard she just yammered Yaya endlessly while chasing the fish, it was a good thing that I was in repose to aid my sides in healing faster.

I do not remember being so willful as a child. She must surely get such from him.

Perhaps I should look beyond the walls of Arx.
