Three brave ladies saved a man from a fire and caught an arsonist. Not a trained knight among them, just courage, wits, and the desire to do what's right. I am in turns humbled and amazed by them.

I got to show off Spirits the other day! He did amazing! In all his large feathery goodness! He did super well!

Did I mention Lady Elora's dog attacked a bear? I'm sure you'll hear all about it! It was the craziest thing I've ever seen!

Relationship Note on Sanya

My dear sister, how I missed our time together. The verbal banter, the tease. We should get together more often.
Just please, try to find a different topic than .. Brides

It is done! The song! It is so much better to work with brilliant minds, than having to rely solely on my own.

The song is bloody brilliant, if I may say so. My ability to chaotically and quickly throw something together that is a good base, Lord Mirk's sharp focus and attention to detail, and Lord Savio's near magical skill with words, put together into a song of wonder.

Relationship Note on Ilira

My friend,

Many have said the very same thing to me, and seem surprised given how little I say in person.

When I was younger and barely a woman, we could not afford parchment or ink. My mother and I lived from room to room. I spent twelve hours or more a day working; she spent the same time drinking. What I saw or could see I wanted to talk about, but had no one to speak to; as kind as my employer was, he had little time to entertain the idle musings of a scullion. And as it would be of little consequence now to gossip or mumble among Peers, I put what thoughts I think are deserving of memory to these Journals.

Those who speak little may have much to say, but are careful about doing so.

Warm regards.

Tonight was a rough night. As the evening grew, Onida and I were walking the forests at Lord Titus' hunt, and a bear attacked. Somehow we didn't see it before it was too late.

I cannot tell, Scholar, how long it took, but we were fighting for our lives. Gods be praised, I was untouched and Onida took little more than a scratch. I'm exhausted, so very tired. Lord Triton and Lord Richard Wyvernheart helped me get the bear out of the woods, and I made arrangements for the bear meat to be distributed to those in need, along with the buck. I let Onida have the rabbit for himself.

It was nice though. It was like having Jyri there in a small way, and I know he'd be even prouder of Onida than I am. He's such a good dog.

Relationship Note on Thea

The wonderful Countess Thea has agreed to be my teacher in the ways of learning medicine. After some thoughtful consideration I thought that I should best spend my time learning something new in order to help others.

By no means do I think it will be easy. I'm not really steady with hands when it comes to poking someone with a needle. Do forgive me ahead of time. However, I think this will be a good lesson and experience, so as long as I don't commit to be Thea's partner in crime when it comes to troublemaking. It does sound fun though.

I am stunned. Someone gave me a flower! Nobody has ever done that for me before. Not only was it a flower, but a very beautiful sculpture of one. It will forever be beautiful. Every time I look at it, I will smile and feel happy.

It can be easy when reading a book or listening to a story of a legend or hero to simply take the high level moral of the story and that isn’t a terrible thing. But those names in my books and stories, they were individuals. People, not simply fictional legends. They lived like me, had challenges and pains. They had moments of weakness, moments of strength. They might have enjoyed eating the peppery blueclaw, or found comfort with books of salacious fiction or perhaps they might even have had a thing for honey that bordered on obsession. The thing is they were living people and people should be remembered not just for their sacrifice or some easy to remember five word sentence on an epitaph but the lives they had lived which they gave up for a higher cause.

As Arx endures, we shall remember. That’s what was promised. Stars fade when the stories hidden in them begin to be forgotten.

Perhaps the next time I hear a name in a book or story, or look on a cold weathered statue or faded painting, rather than simply remembering their legend I might be spurred to seek out a memory of the life they sacrificed and then check that I'm living my life to the fullest so Vellichor's history is full when I finally meet the Queen.

May those gone have their stars shine bright with memories we choose to keep alive.

I received the most---interesting of gifts for my son from Lady Catalana and Lord Ian Kennex. By interesting I mean loud. By loud I mean ear piercing. A goat. A small pygmy goat. That gets nervous and faints. One moment it's screaming and the next it's startled and just falls over. My son? I'm pretty sure he thinks it's just a larger moving stuffed animal. I haven't introduced them just yet, but I know the excitement is there. Lord Macario was telling a story about goat soup and Lord Pasquale mentioned having it have some sort of accident. Both seem--worthy ideas, but I'm afraid there's already a bond formed here. I've simply apologized to Drake about possible missing pants...Without giving a reason why. I suppose I should warn the rest of the house as well.

I do know one thing. I can't wait until I can repay this--such thoughtful gift.

I got to meet an interesting Lord. I don't care for many silks, but this fellow, I really like. He has style, he has taste, he has humor. Lord Mattheu Rivenshari and I enjoyed a spar in the training center. He lost the spar and will now have to take me on a ride on one of his boats! If he had won, I was going to host a bonfire for him and his family, but, I think I shall do it anyways. It will be fun!
