Lord Erik Grimhall
"Ponder and deliberate before you make a move."
Description: This man's large frame often sets him apart, tall and muscled as one would expect of a warrior of the Isles. His skin is lightly tanned from excursions in the sun, yet his hands are not calloused from holding weapons so much as ink-stained from books. Stormy grey eyes capture the color of the sea when clouds collect overhead, and his sandy hair is a shade between blonde and brown, kept long and often tied back with a bit of leather. He's undeniably handsome, for those who like the rugged type.
Personality: Erik Grimhall has a somewhat reserved personality for one born and raised in the Isles. He is a thoughtful man, an intellectual despite pressure from the family to put his books aside and focus on sailing and fighting. It is likely that fact, that among his kin his true interests were often mocked in his youth, which makes him careful to open up to new people. Once one gets him talking on a topic of interest however, he can go on for hours and hours on end. He believes that House Grimhall, and perhaps the Islanders in general, would benefit from education that goes beyond the basics. He does not hide these interests any longer but embraces them, associating with intellectual and scholarly pursuits whenever possible. He's also a charming man and well aware of it, flirtatious at times when someone captures his interest, though beauty alone never seems to do so.
Background: Erik Grimhall is the second eldest child of Abram Grimhall and his wife Alina Darkwater, along with his twin sister Sanya. In his youth he saw the many changes that Islander nobility went through, including the transfer of power in his own family several times over, as well as the issues of succession in Thrax. He was a studious young man, observing the ways of the world not with the usual fire and fury that his family often appeared to expect, but with a measured consideration. He understood that war and violence were the way of the Mourning Isles and he had a role to play in that as an eldest son, yet he also wanted more.
It was no easy task to persuade his parents to allow him the opportunity to leave Grihem's Point in order to study among mainland academies, yet he did so. On the condition that he also continued to practice daily with a skilled arms master and spent half the year in the Mourning Isles in order to make sure that he maintained his 'sea legs' (and was not overly influenced by mainlander ways of thinking) he convinced his parents to allow him to study. And study he did.
Erik put his mind to all sorts of topics. War was one of them, but not the details of battle and war craft alone, it was philosophy he was interested in as well. What was the purpose of violence between nations and how often was it served. What other means could be used to attain those desired ends? These were but a few of the things he put his mind to, and yet he did well with those studies. As he grew older and his education continued, he was invited to take a place among the Scholars of Vellichor. It was not ideal according to his parents, and more than a few heated arguments resulted from this invitation. Yet somehow he convinced them, and so it was he began studying in more depth in the city of Arx.
Which is not to say that he did not take his proper place during battles where Grimhall was called to arms. Too young to fight in the Tyde rebellion he nevertheless heard about it, and was motivated by the stories. He has joined countless expeditions to quash pirate activity throughout the Isles, often placed as advisers to Admirals and Generals and considered for such positions himself. It was the war in Setarco that most recently brought him back from his studies with the Scholars, and has him seeking to reconnect with his family in Arx and serve as he may.
|Aella||We keep running into each other all over Arx. Maybe one day we'll even finish a conversation.|
|Ailys||A lively and courteous lord who doesn't mind being addressed as seaweed, at least not at first.|
|Ariella||Anyone who plays along with the name game is fine in my book.|
|Arman||A sailor and a scholar. Genial with a curious mind. I find curious individuals make for interesting aquaintances.|
|Cassiopeia||A sailor whose depth include the intellectual, I suspect he's got some interesting stories to share, and I'd rather like to hear them.|
|Celine||An interesting lord whom I ran into in the Ebb and Flow. There's something to be said for a man that isn't intimidated by talk of fashion and questionable attire, though his mention of gathering information makes me wonder if there might not be a touch of the scholar about him. I'm intrigued enough to want to know him better.|
|Daria||(Shared) A lord who is able to strike up a conversation about trees and captivate an entire audence. He could be a potientail ally if he is a true lover of nature.|
|Desma||Tall and has the look of a warrior but seems more intelligent. I'll watch him.|
|Eleanor||He seems to know a lot about sailing, we should talk about boats some time!|
|Ember||I won't hold his friendship with my cousin Lady Gehenna against him, as he seems polite enough.|
|Esme||We shall always be connected. We are connected in this turn as the piece of his heart remains within mine and a part of my heart will always echo the beat of his. When the wheel turns again, I am sure we will find away to meet again.|
|Evander||A scholar of Vellichor from Grimhall, alot of similarities to myself. Perhaps I will run into him at the stacks.|
|Gehenna||Articulate, witty, and a pleasure to gaze upon. When I think of a Lord of the Mourning Isles, he is one that comes to mind immediately.|
|Giada||Another Grimhall. He seems a bit skittish, but some people are just like that.|
|Grady||A man with the ingenuity to fashion a pink gown from what looks like bedsheets and spilled wine, the audacity to wear said garment, and the courage to wear it to a Valardin garden party. He is, most certainly, a greater man than I.|
|Haakon||Newly returned to this damnable city. Carries the old Grim Duke's axe. Asks a lot of questions, but at least hears out the answers.|
|Ian||Always good to touch base with Lord Erik again.|
|Ilira||We met in a bit of a weird moment for me, and he effortlessly brightened it alongside the others. I'd like him for this alone, but his vaguely rugged charm and the kindness with which he treats Esme--and everyone--endears me twofold!|
|Karina||Despite his gruff exterior like so many of the Grimhalls, do not let the beard and broad shoulders fool you! Lord Erik is as thoughtful in scholarship as he is skilled at navigating the seas around Grihelm's Point. Perhaps there was once a time where that may not have been appreciated fully amongst our kin, but it's hard to not see that changing with his work and promise.|
|Keely||His muscles seem to like flexing at people. He is engaging to talk to, knows how to make a person feel listened to and important, and is overall charming company.|
|Lena||A massive Lord. Enormous, really.|
|Lucita||Witty, a sailor with skills I certainly do not possess. He speaks intelligently, is a good listener and seems to share the qualities of curiosity that make good explorers. Wonder what adventures he has had.|
|Mabelle||The Grimhall Lord of books and exploration. He seems to be well versed and pleasant, an enjoyable companion for morning coffee.|
|Medeia||The Lord Grimhall is a curious fellow, not just in mind but in manner. I do not often meet a sailor who desires to know more than the sea.|
|Mikani||There is a saying that goes with this man ... happy to see him coming ... and going .... but don't tell him that.|
|Mirari||A shy man learning the ways of the city.|
|Poppy||Not such a gruff and grumpy islander.|
|Raja||Capable. Intelligent. Handsome. It's hard to find people with all three of these qualities! I look forward to working more with him.|
|Savio||He has a reserved way to him, but it is pleasant to see the sparks of amusement from him when something captures his humor. He is engaged in exploring all the people and things of Arx now that he is returned, and I am curious to know what he makes of it all.|
|Sofia||Only a ship captain. And a scholar. A scholar ship captain, but definitely not a diplomat.|
|Temira||Witniess to my Lute losing streak, but rather thoughtful person. Those types of people are always enjoyable to be around.|
|Terese||A scholarly sailor and Lord. He seems polite and respectful, I am grateful for that|
|Valdemar||It seems my cousin needs to work on his time management. Nonetheless, I am glad to have him near again.|
|Wash||The company he keeps speaks miles about his character. He listens well too.|
|Xia||Lord Erik is a curious but polite Lord from the isles. I think I will have to make up my abrupt leaving by inviting him for tea. Or perhaps a meal at the tea house.|
|Zakhar||Not a surprise that a sailor would choose boat over horse, though as to be blindfolded leads back to how traditionalist is this man?|
