Oh my stars what a day.

A genuine and profound thank you to everyone who made a dream of nearly a decade come true this past year, culminating with this evening. My cousin (and protege) Lord Rorik did a wonderful turn as Lord Chevron. I take tremendous pride in seeing Mistress Nina Autumndale take the stage as Lady Chrysanthis. Lord Dariel is certainly one to watch, as he truly lived the wicked role of Lord Phoebus. Sabella went far outside of her comfort zone and made audiences everywhere hate her and love it as the Eastern Princess. And, of course, the singer of freedom herself, Princess Sorrel Thrax, bringing Tala Everfree herself to life. To say nothing of my good friend, the Nightingale Gianna Delvecchio, as the Chorus, bringing audiences to their knees or raising them out of their seats with merely the opening notes of any song. Further thanks to our hosts in the Mourning Isles: Princess Caith Thrax in Maelstrom, Countess Carita Darkwater in Darkwater Watcher, Duke-Regent Aethan Kennex, my own cousin, in Stormward, Lord Dycard Blackshore in New Hope, Baroness Ember Redreef in Redreef Shores, Duchess Margot Tyde in Tydehall, Lady Ingrid Grimhall at Grihem's Point and Lord Cyril Melaeris at Astarrea. Unfortunately we did miss Escuma. Perhaps next time! Thanks also to the leadership of the Liberators, Father Aureth Grayhope and First Liberator Aleksei Morgan. And most of all, thank you to Prince Victus Thrax, without whom this dream would not have been realized. When I first proposed the play it was deemed too controversial in the Isles that were. Now I hope it can be seen as a part of the story of the change in Islander traditions.

Further thanks to the audience. We (with the help of a certain benefactor, for whom I do wonder if we can thank for keeping the show afloat during a difficult part of our run in the middle) raised over two million silver thanks to the auction after the show. Lady Thea, Lady Zoey, Princess Sorrel (who apparently decided she could not give up her own outfit from the show), Princess Liara and a mysterious benefactor.

Death to slavers.

Fuck Duke Ivan Helianthus.

Relationship Note on Preston

How sad that every time we talk, the topics seem to be doom and gloom. Or about how busy we are. Or plans to be even more busy. One of these days we'll have to break out of the rut and find something light, fun, and interesting to do. Fishing? Swimming? A contest of how many different flowers can be found in the garden? Swinging off a balcony rail by rope... no, no, not that, might give the twins even more terrible-for-almost-five-year-oldsideas than they already have.

Relationship Note on Wylla

I am so thrilled that Archlector Wylla has been around more! She is such a calming presence and so wise! I feel inspired just being around her! Perhaps I ought to up my hours each week at the Shrine of Jayus so that I'm more able to chat with her! She's just absolutely wonderful in all ways!

While the tour through the Mourning Isles was amazing for the debut of The Song of Tala Everfree, there was something magical about being able to perform it on stage at the Black Rose Theater! A place where I once dreamed of treading the boards in just such a role--something a bit outside of my comfort zone, but something I was still able to excel in and make my own!

I do wish Master Bastien was able to see it! I'm sure I easily exceeded his every expectation.

Weirdest place I've ever been to, the Murder.

I was sitting there, minding my own business as I do, and slowly through the din of conversations a discussion across the counter started getting a little too loud. Some mean-looking guy stood up and pointed at his own chest with the most mocking, hearty laugh made yet, and taunted some other guy with something along the lines of: "You think you could take me?" So this fellow, some stools away at most, jumps to his feet, calls him a "farkin' pillowfisted fool." And there they go, the slightest suggestion that the second man's fists weren't made of jaw-demolishing bricks kicks off a brutal fight. They grab at one another, drinks fly every which way, and they swing their free hands in looping undercuts. Each punch, I swear, landed with cracking ferocity.

It occurred to me at the time that perhaps I was meant to split them apart, but that's not how things work down here, I don't think.

Eventually, some angry woman smashed in and declared to the room an angry warning, and they split off. One, while pinching a nostril while blood shot out the other, apologized. I'd say which, but after the whole thing was over you couldn't recognize either of them. Shoulders were popped back into place, they shook hands, clapped each other's sides.

Drinks just don't taste the same after that much brutality. You appreciate them a little more, I think.
Some weird shit, huh? Don't laugh too hard now, custodian.

Another week of steady toil. We continue to hope for a robust harvest to build our stores for the winter. One must never assume such things until the granaries are full, but some optimism seems to be in order. I am looking forward to the cooler weather. We could also do with more rain, though whenever I say that I am usually blessed with downpours.

I will be helping to organize a function soon. Time to brush up on the fineries of courtly manners to set a good example. I have spent too long in the fields attending to fences and roads to trust that I am not as coarse as I may feel.

I look forward to seeing if she remembers the lessons from last time. I would hate to be disappointed.

Might be soon time for Lady Arsenia, Lady Kaia and I to take that trip down to Southport to start passing her on to the mother.

Peace at last. Perhaps. In Malvici Hall.

Relationship Note on Hali

The Crimson Blades have been very quiet these past few months, though I have known that their new training areas have been a success. I wish them well in their endeavors. That is not to say that it was with some unexpected pleasure that we were greeted by one Hali Harvey of the Blades. She is quite a ball of energy, and I think that the Blades themselves have done well in taking her on. It brought back many memories and stories that I felt I must share. Familiar faces, and remembrances do litter my path these days.

People are returning, and there are still others whom has come from all over to spend time dining within our halls. It is a pleasure and a privilege to have so many new faces to converse with. I do look forward to how each of these new relationships develop.

Settling myself with good food, varied refreshment, and soothing music in various parts of Whisper House, inviting in people to come join and share in their needs and wants continues to be a good way of meeting new people. The conversations have been varied and intriguing.

I do need to still follow up on some of it, mind.

I think I shall keep setting aside time. To be available, accessible, and to provide a soft touch.

I was taught recently that expectations and reality are not one in the same. In fact, sometimes the reality far exceeds the expectation, and that's a lesson I'd gladly learn again and again and again. And then once more, just to make certain!

I have set myself a new path - a journey toward serving Gild more fiercely and loyally than I have before. While daunting, this is the right choice. There are gaps in my knowledge, ways I could be better, and the time has come to fix that.

Inspiration struck and I followed it out of the city entirely. I suppose I'd grown rather used to travel and seeing new places and people every day. While Arx is grand, the vistas end at the towering walls while you're within the city, and that can be stifling, despite the great wealth ideas mixing among the people. Sometimes feeling the caress of a cool breeze off the Bay of Thrax, or hearing the rustling of leaves and the singing of birds in the Gray Forest is just what one needs to settle a creative spark in one's mind and fan it into a blaze.
