Relationship Note on Victus

Honestly if you added "sat on Iseulet's couch and called her bae" you would just be describing 2/3rds of my exflames at this point.

A note on a beautiful word:

chatoyance - the cat's eye effect - that shimmering shine of shifting colors, softer than a sweetly spoken suggestion - with the intrigue, causing you to lean in. You don't know how it occurs in nature, only that it does because you have seen it. In cut and polished stone, in glass, in oil burnished wood - never in someone's eyes, never before. You are aware it isn't likely, not truly, but in that light - with the company, the conversation --

You're willing to believe in the extraordinary.

I look forward to a forthcoming trip to the Oathlands with my Lord Disaster. It will be a journey full of work and learning, of preparing ourselves for the tasks that lie ahead of us both.

But I can't wait to watch you build a house.

Seriously, that was four -- or maybe even seven -- hours ago. Scholar Einar. Next time, you really do need to pull a random White for me.

Really surprise us.

Scholar. It is amusing when one is asked if they can be subtle.

My only response to the question is complicated.

On one hand. Yes.

On the other. Why?

It took ages to get the Scholar Einar to pull the proper journal,

"I really can't understand how a seagull can be happy with who they are. Their entire life is scream, steal, shit and die."

-- honestly, that doesn't sound at all a terrible way to live.

Rats of the sky. We don't need them near as much as they need us -- the parasitic cartons.

What feels like a lifetime ago, when I first came to Arx, Prince Edain asked me to make some armor for Princess Marian. It was a simple set, nothing like what we are all probably used to seeing these days, but I think it did what it needed to. It had the face of a fierce dragon on the breastplate that I've always been a bit proud of. Shortly after that her sister, Monique, sent a missive and visited the shop about a commission - a dagger and a sword. The sword, a rubicund piece if I remember correctly, got to be known as Troublemaker, and the dagger had a blooming rose theme to it. Thus began what has been a very long relationship (one I won't tally in number of years for both of our sakes) of making sharp things, mostly daggers, for Lady Monique. I remain grateful for her patronage all this time, especially as I was not the smith back then that I like to think I am today.

I find myself again today being challenged and thrilled by her trust in me for another project involving sharp things, and I'm pleased so far with the rough sketches I've been working on. There are touches of nostalgia mixed in as well - of times when we were all a bit younger, a bit more bright-eyed and ready to take on the world. Which, I suppose, a lot of us have certainly tried since then. Of friends come and gone, lives that have moved on. Y'know what I mean.

It has been rare lately that I'm able to take commissions, but this one? This one isn't something I would say no to. It's like peeking back into the past and stealing a bit of joy from it.

I remember when another Fox, married in, maneuvered for the Archduchy. I was young and inexperienced then, and I looked at that askance. I didn't yet understand that such positions ask for much more than ambition and a steady hand. They ask for everything. When I look at this today, no, it's not with skepticism.

Our words and deeds matter.

Our words create the shape of our world. Our deeds inexorably change it with each act.

I am sworn, as Voice, to convey the words of my Archduchess Belladonna in matters of Pravus and how it pertains to the Compact, and those things that come to pass within it. But even as much as that, I am a knight of Setarco - my personal word is my bond, my deeds speak to my honour, and my honour is paramount.

If we cannot, will not, live up to our words in the form of our deeds, then who are we as individuals, or as a society? What are we?

There is no sin in reminding others when their deeds fall short of their words - those who do so, do so because they /care/ about the integrity of ourselves, our Houses, and our words. To disregard those who try to remind us of our words and point out to us our deeds, to mistreat them... is a grave offence, before our fellow citizens and before the gods.

It is our duty, as ourselves, as Arvani, to honour our own words by living up to them through our deeds. To remind others of their words when those deeds fall short. And to uphold each other's honour in this sacred Compact of ours.

This is what separates us from those who seek to destroy us.

Those who cannot bear the weight of criticism, reflect upon it, and grow to face the challenge, only prove that they should not have taken up the responsibilities to begin with.

At the expense of hypocrisy..

What are champions?
What are duels?
Why have whites become a battleground of squabbles?
Are whites a record of our thoughts and deeds to reflect in the future or a depository for our ruinous impulses?
Are they a platform where anyone can read, including enemies of the compact, quite easily?
Does anyone remember what just happened at the shrine of lagoma after statements made in the whites?

I don't know anymore scholar..
I can only hope that it is resolved quickly

Thoughts can heal, thoughts can kill.
Words can save, words can break. Emotions may guide or betray..

Ideally, we should bear the tumults of life with dignity and grace. After all, blessings may appear under the guise of pain, loss, or disappointment. If we but have the patience, and the courage, then perhaps one day we can see them as they truly are.

I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely couple, Wilhelm and Ana Tiffin, at the refugee relief gala. They were sweet, and delighted to see how people from all across Arvum were coming together to help them and their neighbors. Being able to give some of the survivors of the tragic and horrific losses faced in Bastion a chance to relax for the evening was an honor.

And I can say that the fundraiser was a success! The donations that came in were plentiful and generous. While everyone who helped should be acknowledged, I think it would be a disservice not to name names on behalf of two individuals in particular: Duke Hadrian Mazetti and Sir Corban Telmar are truly wonderful examples of the best of the Compact. It was a privilege to see their kindness in action.

While I'm on the subject- my gratitude to Princess Macda 'Punchy' Grayson, Lord Ian Kennex, Lord Vitalis Clement, and my sister Cufre. Without whom I wouldn't still be breathing to dictate this entry for the Archives. Brave people, all, in the face of grave danger.

I am grateful that we all survive to tell the tale, this time.

Two warhorses and a membership to Whisper House. A fine 'gift' to come round to after convalescing in the hospital for a few days. Not, mind, that the physicians want me climbing on a horse and undoing all their hard work in the immediate future, but I look forward to seeing my new steeds and letting Wrecking Ball enjoy his remaining years in a good pasture with fine food and lots of care.
