So, they do eat people. I always had a feeling, but... Well, I wish I didn't have confirmation.

Relationship Note on Lyra

I was recently introduced to an entrepreneurial fellow who swears his allegiances to House Byrne. Though our meeting was only brief, he immediately made clear to me his prowess regarding trade, tariffs, and the competitive price points of imported goods via a detailed diatribe on the city market's available inventory. As I understand it, Messere Havmarke is Countess Byrne's minister of income. If true, I suspect that their financial affairs are in impeccable order. Her decision to entrust the man with such matters was nothing short of brilliant.

Damn. Tanith has a mean aim with her cheese flinging. I think this spot on my head bruised slightly.

The most interesting interactions happen when you have had a bit of haze. You become more loose in the lips and you discover things about yourself and your friends that you didn't know before. This is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Gods, it's nice to slow down. Today was a good day, with a great morning, and then I wound down the evening with a good pipe and some booze with friends in the Murder. -Off- duty. Even if cheese was flung and bad words were sad. Still a great day.

I feel as though I ought to have a set of those chairs made and delivered to the Highlady. Never have I seen someone master them so quickly. Grayson, you are in exceptionally capable hands.

This time when I came home, the blood I was covered in was not mine. That did not seem to alarm Yasmine any less. Perhaps it is time to retire from a life of action...

Whisper Cesare, Princess Keely, and Lord Mattheu did a wonderful job teaching new dances. I learned a great deal. And I had the tremendous pleasure of co-teaching the Beaver Waltz with Princess Keely.

I am not the most-graceful dancer, but I get by. And that is enough.

Thank all that's holy, I had hoped Princess Keely's helpers meeting would be productive but I feared it would not be. Two matters I had been quite anxious about but not the energy, time, or idea how to begin to address are in most capable hands and now, perhaps, there is a place to air all those concerns the slip between the cracks. I think the last time I was this happy was when Her Grace gifted me with Requiem.

Had some fun with Lord Kastelon at the obstacle course. The man may have one eye, but he's a force to be reckoned with. Glad he's on our side. The bugger nearly beat me.

I had a feeling Grimthog was going to be a problem.

The audience seemed to enjoy the show, at least. I knew from rehearsals that it would be entertaining, but the cast really outdid themselves for the premier. The actors turned in heartfelt performances and the music was flawless. They all have my deepest gratitude for turning the script I wrote into something magical and alive.

Many thanks to Princess Gwenna, Lady Mabelle, Lord Orland, Lord Savio, Gianna, Lord Mattheu, Lady Zoey, Auda, Lady Adalyn, the Bard's College choir, and of course, everyone who attended. I look forward to seeing the Thirteen Sorrows home to Artshall, where it all began.

Well, that was interesting, Scholar. Thought I'd drop by on my way back down to the Lowers and leave a note that it's a long bloody way up all those bloody steps, especially when you're carrying half a crate of cakes. Still, it's for the Archlector, so I don't mind too much, and it gave me a chance to say hello. Are we meeting for the usual pint tomorrow? Grand, I'll see you there.

What a wonderful thing it is to walk into the house and find someone there you haven't seen in a little while. Duty is important, but I do wish it could go hang a little more often - I'm sure I've found neatly-washed teacups over the last few months, but I think we've just kept missing each other.

Of course if Tanith wasn't out so much doing all the things she does as well as her midwifery duties - and if I wasn't out doing all the stuff I do as well as my midwifery duties - we'd see a lot more of each other. There are times I hate baby-catching season, but only when I'm left alone again.

One of my greatest fears is loss or lack of control. I know it's an irrational one; we as mortals have never had full control. It should be a lesson, then, that I am at my best when I lose mine.

The dance hosted by Princess Keely was magic. Her Highness, Softest Cesare, and Lord Mattheu all led exquisite demonstrations for their chosen choreography, and I was spellbound to do naught but follow.

It's funny, I am often so tense in social situations--this instance was no exception--at least in the beginning. The hardest part of attending an event is taking myself there. Many folks are surprised when I confess this, and I'm just like, 'Thank goodness, I am not so see-through as I feel!' A smile can be a fabulous mechanism of defense. But last night, mine had no need for artifice.

When I perform, all the tension in my body, heart, and mind releases. I imagine those first steps of a dance to me are what a bird feels when they take flight. Perhaps that's why Lord Rivenshari's dance compelled me deepest. Every dance is an ode to the balance between order and chaos, but the Rivensharis hold a particular proximity to it that manifests breathtakingly in their way of entertainment. The name of that balance is freedom, and I live for it.

All I've left to say to the ones who were there, is thank you. It was a wonder to be free with you.

3 feet... 20 feet... What does it really matter? Art knows no boundaries. I've always been fond of making a statement.

On a related note, the mural for House Malvici is complete.

Fourteen children. Fourteen caravels. Fourteen hawks. But only one Finn. As far as dogs go, he's the best. As far as art subjects go, he is also the best behaved.
