The weather. Fall has definitely come. The fires of the Hall are forever burning, the smell of the wood burning is now a normal scent in the city. And Calo? Calo is now trying to walk. Toward Finn. Not me. Not his father. Not his aunt. But the dog. I feel a bit insulted by my own son, scholar. Carry a child for months and he walks toward Finn and Strawberry.

This week has been busy to say the least. I've barely come up for air. If it wasn't for Drake's occasional check in or the servants bringing me something to eat, I'd likely have forgotten that too.

Another difficult week, this week. The feeling that each path my footsteps leads me down is blocked to my entry only increases. The gods know I am trying. I am doing all I can. And despite what some might counsel, it is not in my character to be content to sit back and rest on the assurances of others when I know that I have two good hands and at least a few decent thoughts rattling around between my ears with which to help. I will have to take more time - precious time which we do not have - to try and gather further information and possibly more allies before I make any further efforts. Despite what has been assumed, I am not cavalier with the lives of others, or with my own. I only find it unfathomable that I might not do all I can to prevent tragedy from spreading more widely than it already has.

Each day that passes brings more opportunities for our enemies to strike. These villages - all those lost in Bastion. What will be next? I haven't lost hope; I never do. But I must reassess.

Dear Aella. Runa is the biggest pain in the ass EVER! I'm really not sure what took you so long to realize that! But I mean, I'll be happy to have a bird for myself. Honest!

Triton! I mean, I don't know what you what you want me to say! You missed some years, I have some things I need to say! Ok, a lot! Speaking of, want to plan a camping trip? We can talk even more then!

I found myself going to visit my brother the other day and stumbled upon the most magnificent piece of artwork now hanging there. It is large, very very large. What is it you may ask? All of the children of Malvici descendants. All of them. All 14. I can't imagine how busy Denica was, surrounded by all these children of varying ages, my own included. Who can be seen with a fistful of hair. The most amazing part of it is how she was able to capture the very personality of them. Their uniqueness. Their individuality. It showed the closeness of the Malvici family, no matter their last name. It's quite the painting. Best part, it depicted Finn. In his familiar territory. With those he loves the most.

Makes me realize. Time to get a family portrait done for Wyvernheart.

This is a little late but I'd be remiss if I never took the opportunity to thank those who'd attended my dinner at the Velenosa Estate, especially His Majesty, Archduchess Jaenelle and Softest Whisper Cesare. It didn't go -quite- as anticipated but the guests were delightful, the meals perfect and I learned things I didn't expect to learn.

Here's to many more, whatever surprises may come with them.

Today I attended the Inaugural Gathering of The Society of Helpers. A much needed event given the current times. Lady Mabelle, Princess Keely and Princess Denica were all lovely hosts, and it's clear they truly wish to help those without a current purpose find where they might be useful.

For those who were unable to attend but are still uncertain how they might help with the current issues we face, I implore you to reach out to one of the three and ask. We all have a part to play, and whether you're skilled in the blade, tongue or mind, your efforts are needed somewhere, you only need to make the right connections. It's going to take the effort of everyone to overcome the challenges we face - don't hang back in fear you'll only get in the way.

I've been making an effort to be more engaging across the social affairs of the society, I admit that sometimes I find my energy lacking. Maybe more accurately my energy is just pulled so sharply into other things that I forget to make the time. And it is important, to go out and be seen. It's necessary for connections, and sometimes just reminding everyone you're not there.

I'm afraid that my showing at a recent dance lesson put on by Princess Keely as shown just how rusty my dancing skills have become. Sadly, I fumbled so often that I'm afraid Lady Greenmarch will only be able to put a paltry sum of silver toward the charity of choice. In that vein, I think that I'll go ahead and forward a donation toward the Templars on my own accord. I am very fond of Carnifex Preston and all of the hard work he does for the Faith and the well being of all the faithful.

And if there was ever any doubt (which I sincerely can't imagine), let it be known that High Lord Liara is an exceptionally dance partner. Even if it turns out that a certain duke has two left feet.

And no, the secrets of the Honeybee Quadrangle cannot be revealed outside of a spring night in Artshall, Deva. These are the rules, I don't make them up. I just follow them.

Princess Keely has somehow managed to entice me into attending yet another event, this time with the promise of some form of badgering dance. I was quite content to watch the goings on, but of course, I was called upon to dance! Lady Oriana was at least beautiful and gracious enough to not call attention to my complete lack of talent in such things. And I am still hearing the howls of laughter echoing in The Rectory.

The Laurent play was quite outstanding as well, although I'm sure I cast a decided pall over the party afterwards, silently watching from my seat as though I were Death Herself. Though I expect no one will remember this after the mask with the flaming eyes floated over everyone's heads.

I met with Father Vayne finally. A kindly man, who offered to help me in reading the curious volumes of old papers piled high on my desk. Thankfully Tanith managed to bake some lovely treats to assuage him with once he gets a headache from them as well.

I don't make it to the theatre as often as I might, but I happened to be ashore for the premiere of The Thirteen Sorrows of Jonathan Baseborn at the Bard's College. Having been assured that this would be a harrowing tale of some consequence performed by true professionals who know the value of a bloody scene, I committed to attendance.

The performance was stellar, Lords Savio and Orland Amadeo of particular note, with the former portraying the dual-headed Duke Grimthog smashingly - seriously, the mask is now broken, ask anyone - and the latter swaying hearts across the audience as the titular character Jonathan Baseborn. The after-party was an enchanting affair as well; though I do prefer the open sea, there's something to be said of the charms of society.

Oh, oh, and I should mention! Lord Savio composed a biographical song of my renown, which is absolutely one hundred percent true if one should come across the lyrics. Every single word, especially the clever bit where he makes it known to the annals of history that I have only ever had one head.

What a true honor it was to share the stage at the Bard's College with so many insightful and talented people for the The Thirteen Sorrows premiere here in Arx. Baroness Amari was simply brilliant as the storytelling scholar who filled in the tale and made the play a reasonable four hours instead of three days. I still may commission sleeping bags just for fun. Nightingale Gianna and Lord Mattheu combined their musical talents in such powerful and moving performances that I sometimes got lost in the beauty of it all. Auda Florin's turn as Duke Uthyr and Lady Adalyn's Champion were equally marvelous, and Lord Savio and Lord Orland were just beyond in their roles. Lady Zoey did an incredible job as Queen Alarice, and I hope I was half as good as Lady Mabelle, who played Anthony Laurent to my Gwen Laurent. Baroness Amari said that my fall in the battle scene was quite believable, and I had to admit that it was so because I tripped a bit on my costume and really /did/ topple over! The bruises will surely fade quicker than my ego might. I am humbled and grateful to have gotten to be part of such an inspiring tale that also happens to have a tie to my Laurent side of the family.

The reception was so well attended and I got to cross paths with dear friends old and new, as well as do a bit of potential business. There were a couple of...intriguing happenings, but what good event doesn't have at least a bit of that? All told, it was an extraordinary evening and one I will have no few cherished memories from. I can hardly wait to do it again!

At the Shrine of the First Choice there is a painting with a plaque next to it. It's of Prism and Skald, I think? But the piece conveys a sweet moment between lovers that find themselves again and again life after life.

I think it almost tore my heart out.

Today, I met his Majesty the King Alaric IV, Dominus Aureth, Duke Cristoph Laurent --- oh and Lord.. Grady... uh.. Deepwood! Yes that's it.

All together in the same shrine. It was very intense.

It was also very intimidating and it took everything I had not to make a complete fool of myself. I must pursue etiquette lessons as soon as possible.

I had an interesting conversation this week about the necessity of all that is within mortal experience. Life. Death. hope. despair yet it seems the darker emotions seem to come easily and people foster them in others without conscious thought these days. If balance is what was being touted than surely we must work to foster hope with conscious effort lest we become mired in our darker selves. recognizing these as natural is one thing. yeilding is quite another
