What does it mean, I wonder, to be chosen by the Gods? Are we not all chosen, in some way, else we would not be? If that's the case, then maybe being chosen can be as much of a curse as a blessing. Thoughts, Arx?

Relationship Note on Kael

As for the stick, dear husband mine, that is not for you.

My desire to better my clobbering of those who seek me harm is a whole separate entity for those rare times in which I am angry with you. In truth, you're simply not very good at angering me.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

I will happily (and cheekily) rely on the evidence of Aeryn's birth to prove the validity of my marital accords with Kael. As for my desire to hurl books at him, it has less to do with irritation with my husband, for in truth I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've been genuinely wroth with him (the last time being when he spoke ill of himself and I threatened to kick him in the shins if he persisted), and more in my desire to help him in his agility. I am nothing if not dedicated to the achievements of my Lord Husband.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

Does this club involve the consumption of a particularly large quantity of ale or beverage of one's choice before such a run?

Perhaps we should sell tickets for charity to those that wish to hurl things toward us. Of course, from my wife's statements, Keaton coffers may end up being quite the contributor to such a thing.

First books and now speak of hitting things with large sticks? Really, wife of mine?

PS: Duke Laurent has implied we are doing things wrong. I am now considering that there may be wisdom to such a statement.

Relationship Note on Tikva

For an ordinary man, sure, a raised voice might work. I could probably subdue with a pout.

For an unabashed cur like Talen, other methods are required. My raised voice makes him laugh. My pouts make him amorous. Not that that is usually a problem, but in the depths of pique, it can be distracting.

The best way to settle a dispute with my darling dear is in the furs. As a Redrain; bear.

Yelling is optional, or reliant, on efforts applied.

My fellow ladies write of all of the implements, instruments and invocations they hurl at their husbands.

Personally, I find the power of my raised voice quite sufficient to get my point across.

"The Other Side of the Wall"

There once was a young woman who took great pride in the growth and care of the flowers in her flower garden. She had been raised by her grandmother who taught her to love and care for flowers as she herself had done. So, like her grandmother, her flower garden was second to none.

One day while looking through a an array of seeded blossoms at the market, a particular bloom caught her eye. She had never seen a flower like it before. “I have to have it,” she said to herself, and she immediately purchased a pack of its seeds.

By the time she arrived home, the young woman had already decided where to plant it. She planted it at the base of a stone wall at the back of her yard. It grew vigorously, with beautiful green leaves all over it, but there were no blooms. Day after day she continued to cultivate it, water it, feed it, and she even talked to it attempting to coax it to bloom. But, it was to no avail.

One morning weeks later, as she stood before the vine, she contemplated how disappointed she was that her plant had not bloomed. She was giving considerable thought to cutting it down and planting something else in its place.

It was at this point that her invalid neighbor, whose lot joined hers, called over to her. “Thank you so much! You can’t imagine how much I have enjoyed the blooms of that vine you planted.” The young woman walked through the gate into her neighbor’s yard, and sure enough, she saw that on the other side of the wall the vine was filled with blooms.

There were indeed the most beautiful blooms she had ever seen. The vine had crept through the crevices and while it had not flowered on her side of the fence, it had flowered luxuriantly on the other side.

May this brief story be a reminder to all that just because you cannot always see the result of your labor, it does not mean that it bore no fruit.

(As an aside, I did not write this, but found it amidst some old books I was relocating.)

You're most definitely doing it wrong if your wife wants to throw axes, books or shoes at you.

That said, if Count Keaton and Lord Telmar would like me to start up a club where we dodge things in full armor and sprint in it, I'm more than happy to do so!

I have passed on the old locket I found to Fortunato Grayhope. He is a good man, I'm sure he can paint it and help the owner get reattached.

Today as I was walking to the house of Solace, I found a locket lying in the gutters of honour walk, the northern end, almost by the redrain ward. There's no picture in it, and it's bronze-y and very careworn. If anyone misses it, they can write me, I think. Or maybe I'll just leave it in the House of Solace.

Lord Corban Telmar,

While I certainly will be joining this society that my Liege-Lord is starting (Duke Cristoph Laurent, why have you not shared such news with me and I hear of it second hand?), I can assure you that there is a particular fondness when the item cast comes from your wife's hand rather than random denizens of the Valardin ward.

I've never bothered with the rest of the saying myself; I don't make it a habit of giving them a chance to dodge my axes to begin with. Ask High Lord Victus about his 'haircut' some time - the Redrain special.

But please, drinking horns and conspiring soon!
