Since I was a child all I have heard was about the wars we fight and how we do it to hold our traditions dear, yet now we fight for progress and change. I am proud of all my house has accomplished and how strong we have stood against those who try to stop the tides of change.
But I do find myself wondering, if all I have ever known is fighting and uprisings, is that now a tradition for my people? Will my children ever get to breathe easy and know those they loved are always safe?

One in particular surprisingly stole my attention. A jaunty little cock with a bell. It was the bell that drew my attention away from other matters if I am being honest. I generally am not so easily swayed by a cock. They are all the same. A bit arrogant. Somewhat gamey. I am much more in favor of succulent hen with thick and juicy breasts. Makes for a robust coq au vin. At least that is what my cooks say.
But I do look forward to meeting with Master Zakhar. I hope he does not find my request too outlandish.

After a successful meeting with Archscholar Oswyn, I decided to pursue a little side-venture and begin properly documenting Wyrmguard history. Yes, I, Desiree Wyrmguard, Duchess of Danishes, as I have affectionately been recently referred to, will also be Desiree Wyrmguard, Ancestral Archivist. The idea came to me one evening when Richard and I convened in the family library and began exchanging stories. Much to our dismay, our knowledge was brief and lacked substance. Surely this was a mistake. House Wyrmguard is one of the oldest houses in the Oathlands. Our archives should be bursting at the seams much like my corsets after an indulgent evening. Now with Reigna's passing, I almost feel it is necessary to begin this journey. I know I will not be alone on this path and very much look forward to coaxing my kin for assistance.

I know that life sometimes has pain and we walk that path as long as it takes in our grief. You never have to put a time on your sorrow, but I only ask you one thing. Will you please remember there is always hope? We are always on the cusp of change, of something different, a step, a path... or just our next breath. I ask that you each in these hard times also try to remember love and understanding. Do not speak oaths in your grief that might cause the harm of innocents. Oaths are not to be spoken lightly for their weight is a presence felt by all.
Honor and duty are some of our most wonderful things to embrace, but so is the ability to make our own choices. I only ask that you think before you think and before you react. There is always a time of action, just make sure that it is that and not a reaction. Regardless of your choices in the coming times before us, know you are loved. Know that no matter the victory or the defeat; you alone could not hold the balance of it. You alone cannot be responsible, but if you have stumbled on your path; you still have time to make it right. Forgiveness can be given to a heart of redemption. Every time that we awaken from a slumber, we are able to create a new day. We are able to be better than we were before we shut our eyes; even if it was only to blink.
For those in pain - my heart shatters a million times over for you. Know that I am here if you need to speak. Reach out to those you call friends and family. You do not need to be alone in grief. We are all here for you. If you trust not the mortal words, then lean upon your Gods. They know your heart. They wish only to see you live in honor, duty, and love. May the blessings of the Gods be upon you.

In this last campaign, Anders Nightcove was reaving, not invading. His goal was not to conquer, but to prepare us for the invasion to follow. Attacking granaries and watchtowers, undercutting the ability of marked houses to spot future attacks coming and to withstand sieges. It cost him dear in men and ships and it will cost his house more, still, but that was his object.
Let every loyal house in the isles prepare against what is to follow, for Anders Nightcove may be a slime-guzzling pisspot of an urchin-fucking Arvani shitstain, who lost his sword and shield in his haste to flee from me; he may be a pox-ridden goat from a doomed line of diseased lackwits; he may be a man-shaped sack of bile, vomit, and failure; he may lack the wits to be found in the rancid guts of a month-rotten whale; he may be a festering boil on the ass of Arvani civilization, and he may be more blind than a drunken Lycene with their helm on backwards..
But he is no fool.

The traditions and stability of the Mourning Isles are of dire importance to its continued existence and to the well-being of its people. That there are those who would desperately clutch to a single bit of floatsam in the name of 'tradition' rather than swim to the shore in sight is disappointing - one throws out the babe with the bathwater when proper judgment is clouded by excessive zeal.

Fly swift, and fly free
Find those that are lost
Bring the lost home to me.
Wise raven, clever raven
Look far and look low
Find those that are lost
Lead them back through the snow.
Wise raven, clever raven
If the lost can't return
Lead the lost to their rest
As you'll lead us in turn.

My cousin is a wise leader faced with difficult decisions everyday through which he navigates admirably by using reason, experience and careful observation. I am proud to be of his kin and service and for the responsibility he bestowed upon me and will continue to follow his path every day in hopes some of it rubs off on me.

The goods of the fallen comrade are put back to use with the soldiers who lived dividing them up between themselves while enjoying the favourite food and drinks of the dead. Some tokens are saved for the family to be sent back, as well as the honour of knowing their Malvici proved themselves on the battlefield until the end. Any conflict on who receives what? The deceased's favourite game is played to determine the dispute.
After the funeral rites are done in both the name of Lagoma and Tehom, and the addition of the Queen of Endings and Beginnings. May each that died serving House Malvici return soon from the Wheel and distinguish themselves once more.
This tradition was brought back by the Lady Eirene and, while she may not carry Malvici in her name, she will always carry it in her heart and spirit.
We shall look to host a Vulture's Feast in Arx soon, so others may see our tradition and so we can honour those who died.
