There is anticipation in the air as the blood moon comes. You can feel it seeping and drifting like a low-hanging mist that ripples and creeps at the corners of your senses.

I adore that soft glimmer of something akin to magic in the air. It makes my heart race just a little.

There are none so blind, Scholar, as those who will not see. There are none so deaf as those who stick their fingers in their ears and go 'la la la I can't hear you'.

I might as well have spoken to a brick wall as had that conversation. The wall, at least, has a reason for being unmoved by the argument.

I put your skull in with the others at the Shrine. Ripley did a wonderful job, and he was very generous to let us all have a hand in its creation.

It was a different kind of closeness to death, when we lost you. It's not the same as shaking hands with the Dead, or talking to them, or passing them a beer because you think they're really sitting there (you do this to me -every- month, Franc, I hate you). It's also not the same as holding a hand when the soul is passing, or staring into dead eyes who do more than just sit there and see without seeing.

We all die. It's the end to the story we live, it's what's coming sooner or later. The last sunrise. The last step. The last duty.

I knew this might be your last. You saved us and more.

I put my hand on your skull and I prayed you found the peace you deserved after serving for so long. Presumptuous of me, I know; I didn't have enough time to be your friend but I think we would have been. You liked me enough to save my skin. And besides that, I admired you.

So take your rest and be at peace. Maybe we'll see you again in another Turn, yeah?

Occasionally in life you will find achieving your goals is plagued by seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
It is easy to be draw into many hours spent fruitlessly trying to resolve the issue or to write the entire thing off as impossible.
But before you do you should always step back and ask yourself one simple question: Can I go around this mountain instead of trying to move it?

The fabric of night never looks as striking as it does from the Thrax Ramparts. Stars seem like eyes, shinning from so far away, and it makes me think that there must be a field of skulls in the sky.

It's a comforting thought.

Someone once told me they had a dream of a special place in the forest where all animals could gather peacefully because the predators were rendered incapable of hunting. It was one of the creepiest things I'd heard at the time, but I was apparently the only person who thought so. In hindsight, it's *still* incredibly creepy, unless I add one more layer onto that fantasy and try to picture it as animals with human thoughts doing the equivalent of peacebinding their weapons at an official meeting, as with ceremonies at the Cathedral or the Assembly of Peers, in which case it would be by choice. Then it's not creepy so much as vaguely unnerving.

Sounds like something that should be in a children's book. I won't be writing it.
