So I was approached the other day, Scholar, to see if I'd be amenable to something. It was something I'd never even thought about, but now that I have, I can't stop thinking about it - and I'm torn. Truly torn. What will I do if it actually happens? I'm not sure. I really don't know. But I just can't stop wondering.

The act of making a public declaration is one I typically reserve for non-personal business - things relating to the shop or the Silver Consortium. However, this feels momentous enough to chronicle for the masses: I have (re)sworn to Grayson.

As someone born in Bastion, and someone who lost nearly everything in the horrific Shav attack on that Great city, it seemed right that I reclaim my home. I hope that, as Grayson and her allies continue to rebuild Bastion, I can reopen my mother's shop. My plan is to have it be a place where my apprentices can find their own design-sense, and my economic prowess can invigorate the trades within the city once more.

The things I saw, I can't shake them. Between burying bodies and all that she demanded of me...

I'm trying to exorcise them at the forge as fast as I can make the pieces. I'm trying to drag from my mind the things that swirl in there that she hasn't asked me to make, they are just there. I don't know if I'm cut out to be a harlequin. That was... that was a lot of bodies and she wanted so much. As soon as I stopped feeling the spark from one skull, she was there with whispers for another and once I finished that one she was back and there was the smell of grass and wet earth and just as swiftly one after the other. I still have healing burns on my arms and blisters that are almost gone.

To be replaced by more. Jayus save me, I need this all out of my head so I can make things that are more... normal.

I wonder how many books I will have read before I finally stop feeling utterly lost or worse, like a fool during conversations about the threats to the compact.

It is strange as we grow older and reflect on our parents to see what has shaped us.
My mother was Grayson through and through. A show of a strong woman. Probably a reason I married a strong woman.
My grandparents there was a strict grandfather and a Velenosa grandmother. There is an impact I am certain.
My father was obviously Velenosa, which is why I tend towards alchemy, creating my own versions of chaos (that may just be me) and I respect the shadows.
My grandparents there were a mystery of their own making.

However, my mother loved me as only a mother can a son. She tried. She tried to teach me to be civil and always do what I must no matter the cost.
My father? He always just told me to do better. Although I still loved them and respected them.

I now have children. They are very much their own personalities, but sometimes I wonder what impact I will have on their lives. What memories they will have. Can you make an impact on young children if you don't have a lifetime? If you have a lifetime, do you still make an impact or is a person just who they are suppose to be?

I am so glad we finally got the chance to do all the things we said we were going to. The ride through the forest was enchanting (Farstride enjoyed it as well) and the dinner was superb.

To many more outings such as these!

One thing I've come to realize is that I will never feel at home as a peer if I don't take strides to fit into the world they inhabit. I don't think it will ever be the best fit, but I must take strives to be what I am called to be. I've been praying at Lagoma's shrine and expecting something to happen. But the real change, the real movement, will not be from society changing around me, or even the gods coming down to personally answer my prayer. It will be from me changing to better fit society.

So I took steps on my way home. I commissioned a couple of dresses. I put out a search for a Patron.

The gods give us aid, but we still have to take the first steps.

The story through song and dance was well received within House Leary's gardens during their painting and drinks event for Jayus. It's a piece that I've been working on since setting foot upon the decks to come to Arx, not finished yet. Though small pieces as they come together are worth sharing with others.

I had been playing along the creek upon one piece where I try to hold a note into silence and the twins had come over to ask what I was doing. In explaining to them - Raya was the one to insist that they were allowed to help with the piece. And thus, Sil, Raya and Ilan came together in a manner where I would only expect if they were true Rivenshari. Leaving me surprised, we wrote them pieces and practiced until our sharing of performance the other night.

I can see that they will leave me surprised many times into the future, if they will allow me to see glimpses of what their interests are.

I wasn't sure what to expect for today's Jayus gathering. Would anyone show up? Would they be willing to share their hopes and dreams? Would anyone appreciate the strawberry cakes? Apparently, it's 'many', 'most', and 'one person enough for the whole group'.

I am thankful for the support of people here in Arx and especially grateful to Lord Mattheu Rivenshari for sharing a performance of the piece he's working on. If this is what I can expect of the community here, I will certainly hold another gathering before the year is out.

Fused stone.
My cousin returned from Artshall and pointed out the amounts of fused stone.
I shall have to gather it and build a memorial garden for the fallen.
I wonder if any artists will be interested in trying to work with it.

What do you do when you hit a wall?

Do you keep trying until you have a headache? Do you turn around and go do something different? Do you enlist the support of others and come up with a series of plans? Do you try to find a way around the wall? Do you accept the wall is there and it's not going to move?

I think I'd like to paint the wall. Loud colours and big letters. 'Denica Was Here' or some other mildly amusing comment.

We've recently returned from a tour of our beloved Ostria and the opportunity to immerse ourselves within the culture of our people. Many months ago I spoke with the voice of my Duchess and declared that the Walled City's formidable defenses should become yet greater and that recruitment should be increased. Through sword, arrow, or horse the loyal sons and daughters of Ostria stepped forward in service to their land and liege. The First Hydra is flush with volunteers and those who have shown themselves to stand out as the very best that my wife's lands have to offer were invited to join with the Third Hydra.

Honor and pride abounds, only to surge to even greater heights as the city's namesake have been completed. Not since my wife's notion of the watchtowers that spread across the Lyceum was realized or the day that Port Valerio's deep water ports were made ready to receive the largest of vessels, has the Walled City been so prepared to do its part to defend all who seek aid and partnership within the Lyceum or beyond.

The shipwrights of Ostria have been working diligently and are truly worthy of both praise and their liege's admiration. The time and effort which they have placed into expanding the reach and capability of both the First and Second Fleet is truly a breathtaking achievement that leaves the Duchess and I filled with pride in our people. Time and again the Compact has fought and bled together to confront the myriad threats presented to us over what has been nearly two decades. While we of Arvum are no strangers to the need to commit ourselves in Gloria's name for the sake of securing our people and our lands, such tribulations can present a burden upon the shoulders of us all. We of House Mazetti extend our greatest gratitude to our people for their continued service, dedication, and at times greatest sacrifice to the safeguarding of our beloved Walled City on the Sea.

It has not only been the Arvani who have fought and fell in battle in defense of our lands and our ways. The people of Cardia have likewise lent their strength to our own, bolstering our ability and prowess on the battlefield to answer previously unimaginable threats from beyond our borders. Out of respect for our having bled in battle together, fallen dead upon the same fields, and the continued support that our friends from the south have provided? Not only does House Mazetti and Ostria stand ready to stand in the defense of our fellows in the Lyceum and abroad, but also with those friends from distant lands who have sacrificed their lives to guarantee that the Arvani way of life trudges ever forward.

Our visit to Ostria was inspiring and truly a balm for the soul, but I will admit that a small part of me has missed the hustle and bustle of Arx.

Soon I'll be back to the road. Spending just a few days in the city between trips. I miss the days of idling away hours watching the world fall past while sipping Lenosian reds. I miss casual conversations that sparked up everywhere. Most of all I miss people, I miss my friends. I was prepared to lose some free time.. not all of it.

I need to be more diligent sending messengers.

Success is never final, nor generally is failure. Success tends to be the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out. How very fortunate we are that the Northlands are filled with great people who often courageously greet each day with this in mind. Whether that be the courage to sow fields in less than hospitable climates, or defend borders against threats, or come to Arx to parry with politics. Each task is a piece of a much larger, though ever-changing, puzzle. There are times, like in this moment, when those endeavors bring the whole of the Northlands to a prosperous place. For that, I am humbled and sincerely grateful. It has taken many years and the efforts of so many people - family and allies - who quietly helped build something great.

Such things can be fleeting, of course, but it is nice to take in the moment when it happens and marvel at what the Northlands has managed to accomplish. Not that we can linger long at as much, for the winds of war continue to blow over the Compact and we must ready ourselves for what may come next.

I was able to be truthful for once, to a new audience. In return, I learned more about people I didn't know of before, of hope, of falling stars, and rare things! Some topics of conversation will stick in my brain for a long time; like places you wouldn't want to have dragon scales.

Recently I have undertaken a new project with my ship, though on second thought the figurehead is rather old as are the masts. I may have to find a woodworker or artisan that is willing to take up the task of making it fitting given the new deck and the memorial it shall serve in days to come to those I have served with and known who have passed.

Fallen in battle or lost at sea they are not forgotten. Nor shall they ever be so long as the Tempest still sails and I am in command and Captain of her.

The Physicians Guild and the Mercies of the House of Solace continue our partnership in preparing the Compact for darker days. We both strive to bring good health and long lives to all that we serve, and with our continued preparation we hope that we can prevent the worst of what may happen should those dark days come. And let's fucking face it, Scholar, we all know there's a storm on the horizon and I don't mean that big one which hit a few months ago... My thanks to Archlector Giada who is the best damn Q a person could want, and Mercy Azova who has shit handled while Mother Sophie is off on goodwill tours. I can't do it without them and I'm glad we're all on the same damn side.
