Relationship Note on Tanith

My wife is the most wonderful woman in Arvum, Scholar. I got home to find a baker's dozen of blackberry tarts. Fresh, perfect, blackberry tarts, and a note that said they were mine to eat as I wished.

A perfect crust with a hint of crunch; a gooey centre, still warm from the oven, moist and ripe with promise.

No, I didn't scoff the lot. I had one, and then there were four left for each of us. That's how I wished to eat them. In company, with the people I love.

Eh? Oh, the Salacious Baker, down in the Lowers. Best bakery in Arx, and I'm not just saying that because I married the baker. Delivery? Probably, let me know what you and yours'd like and I'll get it sent up. That writing is hungry work.

Relationship Note on Aiden

Your pain is my pain, my pain is your pain. It is nice to have someone who understands. It's also gratifying to see someone experience something for the first time. My very first Dreamer, I think.

I didn't see any tarts. Though made some lovely friends.

Piece of wisdom I heard once.. no idea where it came from, or who said it first.

Held that an enemy should be treated generously, or else destroyed utterly, as folk could seek revenge for wounds, but could take no revenge from a death blow.

The former course could make friends of foemen, but also may leave a dire foe with a knife to bury in your throat. The latter course could see entire houses razed to ash and bloodlines cut. It's the curse of judgement that such choices can't oft be made more than once.

Relationship Note on Tanith

As it turns out, everyone was in fact talking about real tarts. Real blackberry tarts. I didn't think they weren't but I did beg some off of Tanith and it was worth it. I should give her some money, but I forgot in the midst of my pregnancy cravings.

Thirteen warm, fresh pastries delivered straight to me, which I promptly ate in Anisha's pantry without telling anyone except Tanith. Until now.

Just mommy's treat. No sharing with babies, no sharing with Asher, no sharing with a girlfriend, though I did have to give one to Bryn as a pay off because she saw me go in there with them.

It was glorious.

Now I do not want anything blackberry filled or stuffed for the rest of the winter, thank you.

Do correct me if I am wrong, but what I believe you are saying is that you believe I am capable of leading an invasion of a barony. The same could be said of you.

Relationship Note on Thea

In those moments, I always look for the middle path. You are the navigator of your destiny and your truth. You can put your footfalls where you desire for what you desire.

I've seen galleys with fewer hands on board than the Saik 'dinner party'. Courtiers and socialites could invade a damned barony without much more work or expense than what goes into preparing such events.

All so folk can fill a hall and talk to one body in every ten present which they might not know.

It were pleasant enough, I'm not complaining.
But what the bloody fuck?

While I'm on it, the Arvani custom of dancing in pairs puzzles me. Seems selfish.

Relationship Note on Talwyn

I've witnessed the power of his lute, and it can be a terrifyingly effective thing. The power of song can bring much merriment - and his ability to twist bottoms, with pies, with people of drunkness status - is something I find awe-inspiring.

I am hosting an event for medics of all stripes; the Mercy's, the Physicians, the healers who work outside the auspices of our two organizations, (ooh, fancy word, auspice). Basically if you've ever wrapped a bandage, sewn a wound, or prescribed a medicine you're welcome to show and test your skills.

Even now, my poor Riven's Wing trainees are sewing together dummies from straw and canvas and preparing fake organs. (Gelatin and some pastry and things; I'm sparing the pig-parts for actual training and not this contest). Thea was good enough to donate some prizes.

It should be fun. I like running people through their paces and seeing just how good they are; and proving to themselves they are better, or can be better. Growth is good. Change is good. Lagoma, blah blah, purifying fire and all that.

I can't do part one of it, which is the body-haul. I'm in no way shape or form about to carry a two-hundred pound dummy (Yes, that's the weight- to represent a soldier in armor) across the small obstacle course I have set up. I have a feeling many of our entries won't be able to do that, but it's part of what I train my soldiers to do. You can't always count on someone else to get them to safety, sometimes a fireman's carry or a cradle carry is all you'll get. It will likely be the roughest part, so it's going to be first and out of the way for them so they can then get to the stuff they have talents in; organ ID and sewing shut wounds and splinting. Last one is 'what do you prescribe for X' so their patient can recover swiftly.

Here's hoping we get a decent turn-out.

Relationship Note on Orazio

I was thinking about Saedrus the other day and how much I miss that punk. Yes, I said punk. I knew him before you, so I can say it. I was proud of how soft he was able to make himself, which is a really f'd up compliment coming from me.

That got me thinking about Eos. And Kima. And all my other old friends from Southport I knew in my youth. I think Razi (Yes, Orazio, the Dominus) is the only one still kicking it around Arx. And we, for obvious reasons, don't spend much social time together. Yes, scholar, don't look so surprised. I am, or was, friends with the Dominus. Luxury of knowing him in his youth.

Last time he was free enough to spare me a few hours he went over the pantheon for me like I was seven and needed to learn them all over again. A refresher course, taught by the highest in the land. That's the kind of person he is, he doesn't care who you are or what you've done; he helps with that spiritual need.

A good friend of mine, and our new Guildmaster. I needed to get around to writing about it. She's always there to talk if you need, and often will be working to be a better healer. Not a lot to say besides of the fact she is really skilled at what she does! I appreciate the guidance with the Guild also!

Winter. It is a beautiful season, I enjoy it. I would like to write of many things, but of that I have so little to write, save the adventures of my own personal menagerie of pets. I will try and not bother folk and my own self with memories of friends and fun. All I will note is, I have people that I enjoy being around. I like my work even though most is delegated by the secretary I hired. A lot of people keep to the work while I do a lot of paperwork. Seems the more rank you gain, the more paperwork you need to do. I write letters to the journals to keep a little updated about everything. Well, that's all I really have for today, I appreciate you reading the journal!
