I would argue that pot-strirring is the very definition of trouble if taken metaphorically.

One would think that after having seen me fight and hold my own on multiple occasions, the calls to dissuade me from continuing the martial pursuit of 'an inferior craft' would eventually stop.

I can hold a sword about as well as I sit a horse, and the mare who favors me would - if she could speak - be all too happy to inform any who asks that this is 'About as well as a reasonably capable child'.

Do not think that I am blind to the shortcomings of using only my hands - I am quite aware of them, and I am more than comfortable to embrace those shortcomings, just as a spear-wielder or archer accepts that when they've lost their range advantage, they're imperiled. Where you see weaknesses, I see strengths that you have yet to consider.

Or, to put it in more accessible speech:

Mind your own sharding business, and trouble me not unless you can put me on my back with your weapon of choice.

Relationship Note on Deva

Princess Deva has recently decided she needs a new hobby, one that will keep her from trouble. I find that it is not often the person's fault that trouble always finds them, but troubles ability to know which person would be the most entertaining to deal with. Those of us who seem to find trouble, regardless if we are looking or not, may find it is an inevitable thing and you should simply make the best of it.

Though here are a few suggestions as to hobbies that seem trouble-free:

Pot stirrer.
Lamplighter.
Paintbrush cleaner.
Pillow Fluffer.
Sleeping.

Hobbies that seem they are asking for trouble:

Walking
Talking
Moving

I need a new hobby, and I'm taking suggestions. Preferably things that will keep me out of trouble, not add to my usual amount. For now.

There's another Thea, scholar. What, you didn't hear? This comes in the form of one with feathers. And louder if you could believe such. You're looking at me strangely. You didn't realize yet? It's a bird. My cousin Santi was gracious enough to name his new eagle, Theadora. I'm not sure if I should be flattered that he apparently missed me OR he...well that is irrelevant. We don't need to discuss that.

Today's tea is a black tea, with peppermint and hints of vanilla and honey. I believe I may have been drinking a very similar blend when first I met Archscholar Sina.

And now, perhaps I shall spend some time reflecting on life, love, liberty and next steps.

How best can we continue to remember and honour those whom we have lost?

My next project for the shop is going to be staffs, I think. Y'know, the tall walking stick sort of things that have a bit of ornamentation at the top. I've heard of so many injured, that maybe such things will do some good. Or may just be nice gifts for one reason or another. They are not meant to suggest a person is old, mind you, but you're welcome to make that joke if you're not afraid of getting hit by the staff for doing so, I guess.

I am walking again, as my body works past the lingering effects of the poison that was stabbed into my thighs.

I am not walking WELL, but I am walking again. I've yet to find a cane that suits me, though I wonder if that is simply my own refusal to accept this hobbling, at some level. Even with a cane, I find myself leaning on Juba'al'samara quite a bit, and he is gracious in his support -- his literal, physical support.

I was surprisingly productive during my two weeks spent in bed, but I will not miss that time at all.

Relationship Note on Martinique

General Martinique Barlinnie was born in the Oathlands, though her journey has taken her far away. House Redreef first encountered her in 1014 AR, as the leader of a company of mercenaries who sought to use an island in our waters as a dock and a base camp. This put them into conflict with a nearby shav tribe, Clan Horderacht. On the advice of my family and allies, I hired Messere Barlinnie and her soldiers. Clan Horderacht attacked the mercenaries and inflicted grievous losses upon them. Messere Barlinnie was left a commander without a command. That has changed.

Martinique Barlinnie has sworn an oath to fight for House Redreef. She commands House Redreef's infantry, and will lead them into battle against our enemies. Her revenge upon Clan Horderacht will now be House Redreef's to share. She is ours now, and it is where she belongs.

Especially with news that our dear Archduchess is under threat? Oh we Lycene have to step up and show our best to save her.

Relationship Note on Giulio

I am rather surprised to hear about Count Giulio's demise, so soon after the Archscholar Sina was killed. It seems that no sooner had we set time aside for a Ceremony to remember one explorer that we need to set aside more time for another, and not for the usual means that would spell an exporer's demise.

I do hope that some truth can be uncovered in light of Giulio's death. I know a fair few who would want to know why he was killed. Though, I suppose, one might look no further than some of the topics he may have been researching, for he was quite prolific about collecting information.

I regret that I had not had the opportunity to drag him along on some adventure. I shall pray to the Queen of Endings that his soul might be able to find some rest.

Relationship Note on Sina

I am a bit late in doing this. I am writing down the speech that I gave a the Remembering Archscholar Sina event that I held within the Society of Explorers, with a minor edit or three.

I knew Archscholar Sina when she was just Sina, a young woman in the employ of my cousin, Princess Alarissa Thrax. She was young, bright, and full of zest and wonder of the world then. I knew that she had a keen sense of adventure, and took the Explorer's test, along with Alarissa, just for fun to see if she could pass it. She was both delighted and surprised that she passed the test and I invited her to join the Explorers. Since that time, she had become rather proficient in helping many an Explorer follow their dreams.

Then came the call from the King to research what happened to his father, for he had heard a rumor that Alaric III was still alive. He set all of the Grayson to work on this task. I reached out to Sina, who had risen in rank of Archscholar over the years, with the hopes that she could help me. Not only was she a wonderful resource to the research I completed, but it also turned out that she had a mystery of her own to solve that went along with my research. So, for many years, we worked together to unravel the mystery of Alaric III's disappearance, and with that, helping her to uncover the truth about the White Singer, who serves at the Dune Emperor - Alaric III's - side.

I will miss the long nights of research we spent together, and going over our various crazy theories. I will miss her caring and her compassion. I will miss her wit and determination. She was, I think, one of my very dearest of friends, and I am so, so very happy to see the impact she had on so many others' lives, as represented by your presence here this evening. I hope that she has inspired the same spirit in all of those disciples that follows after her, and that her spirit runs through the Scholars and everyone else she's inspired over the years. She was a very brave woman, who made a very brave, and difficult decision to try and make the world a better place and protect many people in the process.

To Archscholar Sina. May we always remember her.

There are several functional differences between a curved blade and a straight one that more experienced fighters than I can describe.

But my personal favorite is that a curved blade is less likely to get inconveniently stuck in the body of your enemy.

Relationship Note on Giulio

My heart breaks at the news of Count Giulio Corvini's death, and finding the right words to describe my feelings is proving difficult. He was not only a friend to Redrain, but to me as well. He never hesitated to steer me along paths he thought I might best pursue, or recommend people I should speak to - or they, with me. There was never a hesitation about sharing what he knew, and I think he knew more than anyone I have ever met. His ability to put pieces together was truly astounding, and he was exceptionally generous both with his friendship and his intellect. I count myself so very, very lucky and grateful to have known him. The world is dimmer, and it feels like a great tome has been closed by shadows.
