Description: Volya is a handsome man scarred by war and yet with enough boyishness to his features to make a woman want to press a kiss to his hurts. His smile is a beacon that lights dark, intelligent eyes and skin tanned from days often spent outdoors. While of average height, he has a strong build with broad shoulders and legs able to easily scale a ship's rigging. No rough seas will shake him.

Personality: Volya loves life. He loves people. He loves drinking and singing and telling ridiculous stories. Despite his proclivities, he trained both to fight and to lead, heir to a small barony before its fall. His outgoing personality makes him a natural leader, popular with his sailors and peers alike. He knows that there is a time for play and a time for duty; he takes his responsibilities seriously and he has a canny knack for recognizing another person's bullshit. His blunt, hotheaded style, however, is not the best for conflict resolution, and Volya is often in conflict with his little sister Rebecca. He carries a chip on his broad shoulders from his parent's betrayal and the knowledge that the life he is living is not the one he should have had.

Background: The eldest of four children born to a minor baron of the Mourning Isles, it was expected that he would one day follow in his father's footsteps, and he was well on his way to proving himself capable of doing so. He served with distinction in the Pirate War and saw to the commission of statues and prose commemorating the siblings he lost, one in battle, another to infection not long thereafter. He advocated in favor of change as thralldom reform became hotly debated among his kin. His only remaining sister disagrees with him on that point to this day.

He believes that if his parents had been ready to embrace change, they might still have their home and titles today. Instead, his parents ran. They emptied their coffer, abandoned their lands, broke their oaths and disappeared. Briefly. They were recovered, along with the stolen funds, tried and then executed. Their family name was then struck from record, their lands reclaimed, their nobility stripped. Volya and Rebecca came away with nothing, and there is very little either can do about that. They can't undo the damage their parents did, but neither are they ready to give up all noble claim.

Tracing their maternal lineage back to the Argentos of Nilanza, they've sworn to Malespero to make a new beginning here, to be a part of a house that values oaths and understands betrayal. And now since arriving in Arx, his fury at his parents has given him an interest in helping serve the Crown to punish similar crimes, working as a confessor for the Inquisition.
