Nostalgia holds a special places in our hearts. Master Rook's - excuse me, Prince Rook's - recent visit to the Whisper House has reminded me of that. He is still the consummate courtier with a platinum tongue. He assures me that swimming in piles of coin is not as fun as some might think.

The ennui of the past month fades as I find myself in Arx once more. Traveling the Compact as a Champion, living Duel to Duel across the length and breadth of the continent is certainly an experience, but there are things I have come to enjoy in the capital. Not the least of which is my bed, I'll admit this readily.
Saedrus has been a dear in helping me get an intimate dinner prepared for some lucky patrons. The first gifts have started coming in and I have high hopes for some interesting attendees. A certain Princess has set the bar high for top prize.

This evening, I attended an absolutely charming masquerade at the Laurents' Manse in the Valardin ward this evening. Everything was splendid. I have a new taste for cherry-infused honey mead, and a new plan for a horrendous shopping spree upon the craftsmen of the city, praise be to Jayus.

Day 7
I've been meeting more and more people, which is fantastic. Some are certainly more interesting than others, I dare say. I'm not entirely sure if that more interesting is always for the better, or if uninteresting is the safer route of friendship. But then, wouldn't I get bored? Maybe I'll simply be friends with every single person I meet, and not worry about getting into trouble with the wrong sorts....I'll get into trouble with everyone.
I love it here, though. It's like being able to travel without traveling with some of the individuals I've met being so very different from each other, all gathered here in one place.

I attended the Memorial for the Lost the other evening and surprised myself by becoming something of a blubbering fool. It wouldn't have been so bad if I were crying in a seat by myself, but, I was standing next to Princess Lark of all people. I always tell my customers they're not allowed to cry because they'll rust and there I go not following my own advice.

One can only admire her agile mind and the scope of details she adeptly handles in her position as minister. I learn a lot just from listening to her talk and enjoy those conversations that veer away into amusing stories of family and events. I'm glad to have gotten to know her. (Note to self: She likes rum.)

Trust and twins, sewers and ships, painting and planning, ministers and music, preparations and payments, gifts and guidance, commerce and confusion, rum and reality. Meetings and conversations afterward with King Alaric and Princess Jaenelle contain a lively, challenging mix of subjects ranging from delightfully witty to poignant. They make me think beyond the boundaries my mind usually sets, teach me things I did not know.

Time to clean house I think. I hear that spring is the time of year for such things.
Let go and make room for better things and all that.
I hear it's cathartic and good for the heart. I just wish it was easier. Perhaps I should cease being so sentimental.
It makes me wonder how others can throw things away so very easily. Things once with meaning now nothing at all. Is there a trick to it?
Perhaps I shall discover the secret and make good use of it.

She is a invaluable drinking partner, ( I almost wrote unvaluable, I attest this to having tried the rum).
In a hundred years I do not know if they will write about me or her, probably not, let them not say we never
had a good drink. For her it is the rum, for me the brandy, or the wine, or the rum if I am feeling particularly
brave. We hatched a plot, but alas it fell through. Sad ladies.
Today we came together to make the most of our failings and shared yet more drink. It was just rum this time.
I'm honestly starting to believe only trouble comes of the pair of us drinking together. Oh look it's Baron Edward, this will surely end well.

Most of the time I thought her aloof and deep in her responsibilities, but I insisted that she set that aside for a spell.
There is a lot beneath the surface, but typically I do not look, typically she would not of let me.
When the missions begin I think it will be a little easier to follow her now that there is a sense of knowing her better.
The mysteries of Arx truly reside in the hearts of the residents.
