Though I am grateful to be surrounded by family, friends, and trusted allies, I find myself coasting through the days. One day bleeds into the next and then night falls and it happens all over again. I dream of Inigo more than I did when he was alive and though our marriage satisfied both a political arrangement and a love match, we spent much of our time apart. We wrote letters, we took holiday to spend together, then when that time was done, we returned to our occupations; he in Tor and I in Arx. I never ached for him the way I do now, knowing my letters will never be returned and holidays will never be spent together again.

It is a terrible ache and one far more cruel than I could have ever imagined.

Relationship Note on Quenia

Such an amazing woman. She is a good role model. I find myself often pointing her out to my daughter.

Relationship Note on Orland

You were delightful. Together you and Savio create an entirely different sound, with an entirely different character, than either of you would on your own. An apt relationship metaphor, no doubt, very clever, et cetera, appropriate stuff from your Whisper friend. I suspect that taste of performing for such a large crowd, especially after coming back from something of a hiatus, may prove irresistible. It's a particular feeling, isn't it? A bit queasy, even at the peak of the joy.

I entirely approve if you do descend into wanton performing addiction, to be clear. You may say you'd only perform to large crowds now, but what about in front of no crowd at all? Sometimes it's even more thrilling performing without any audience at all, just seeing how far you can push your abilities among others with a like mind.

Relationship Note on Patrizio

I was delighted to be present upon the appointment of Prince Patrizio to his House’s chorus of Voices. He is an excellent choice, though, I am sure there were many exceptional candidates.

I think he will bring a good balance to the trio and offer important insight to their number.

He is obviously honourable, clever and measured in view, yet not afraid to take firm action when circumstances require him to. He is strong without being overbearing. He listens, a skill I think is very important in a leadership position. Balanced in approach and response to issues, I truly believe that he has the good of both his House and the Compact in mind.

I know there has been much bad blood between houses in past. But I also know that it is vital that these rifts be mended if we are to grow as a nation. Together we are always stronger.

I think the prince feels the same. Building bridges rather than burning them. I am grateful for this. We have had enough war. At least for now.

I am pleased for Pravus and for the Compact as a whole.

Arx is so full of talent, and Lianne and Evaristo did a wonderful job pulling us all together to celebrate the concept of time. I applaud all those who contributed to the books, and everyone who took part in the impromptu creativity at the event itself.

I will admit that, some days on from the matter, I am still in shock at having been named a Voice of my house. Then again, I'd thought being asked to command our legion had been a high honour and yet still felt at the time to be something that the gods had not intended for me to seek.

I do not know, quite, what my cousins and my archduchess see in me, but I am determined to make them proud, and to make our Compact stronger and safer for the weight that's been put upon me.

Thank you, messere, who graciously described the night sky to me such that it will live a little longer in memory.

Dusting of diamond stars, brightness of the moon, and subtle velvet of the dark canvas beyond it all.

I pray that your dreams are full of music and your music is full of dreams.

I am not sure what to write..., much like I don't know what to say these days. Coming back to Arx, it's hard to hide from all these thoughts and feelings. I suppose it's for the best, when we hide, nothing goes away, it just waits for us.

There have been hard times, since I've returned, often the hardest things should be so simple. People ask who I am. People ask what my name is. These questions are so simple, but so hard to answer.

There are good times too. The recent celebration at the beach, was one of those. I started off in tears, but I found myself smiling at the end of the night.

I am so grateful for the people who support me and have welcomed me back to Arx.

Savio and Orland, you are bright stars in a dark sky. Your brilliance is beautiful, and I am so lucky to know you both.

Giorgio, my smart cousin, you are a strong leader and will do good for the family.

Andromeda, my big sister. I promise I won't always hide behind you, but when I do, I feel safe, and I am so grateful for that.

Cesare, a new friend, one who's talent is unmistakable. It was a pleasure to hear you sing and be myself in front of you.

There are many others, new friends, new family (the House of Vaevici), many interesting people, all of who I hope to learn more about. This is what gives me hope. Hope for home, but hope for the future.

We are all going through something, we all have our struggles to overcome, but we need not do it alone. I take comfort in knowing, I am not alone, even the days I feel it, I need but look at the lovely faces around me to see the world will be okay.

Tea at the Black Fox. Somehow that just sounds wrong with as many fine wines and whisky and rum varieties they have. None the less, tea is what I am in the mood to drink.

At the poetry event hosted by Marquessa Lianne and Mockingbird Evaristo today, I got to indulge in two of my very favorite things: poetry and collaboration. I met Prince Raimon Thrax, who the whites have shown is an accomplished poet, and had the chance to write with him on the topic of time. Our verse played with themes of tides and the long changes that eclipse entire human lifetimes. He's an agreeable soul, and enthusiastic, and a wonderful collaborator. It seems the Mockingbird will set our piece to music, which I look forward to hearing very much.

It's interesting to me, the breadth of themes that fall under this broad topic. There were poems written about parents and their children, about self-determination, about love, and even a very terse meditation on - well, it might have been taken a number of ways, but just now I'm inclined to say it was about the weight of responsibility. Is there any other topic that touches so many other domains and concepts?

I had the event marked down on my calendar today. "On Time" it said, mocking me; my contribution to the books isn't finished.

I am most fortunate to have a dedicated researcher. There is so much going on. The Skal'daja are sent off-for now but not forever and I find there are a slew of threats to the Compact. There's so much to learn and find to arm myself with knowledge to better prepare to face these threats and I'd be lost without Egon Maw's dogged sifting through libraries and meeting with scholars and others. To think that the man I see today is the same fragile-looking bookworm who used to cut me to size with his words. There's no question in the time I have known him he's grown far more than I. I wonder if it's strange to feel pride even though I had no hand in the man he's become.

Apparently someone with a sense of humour saw my last journal entry, Scholar. Tanith and I are the proud owners of a cow. I'm informed that this is where milk comes from, but I'm not exactly sure how that works (and thank you, people with a sense of humour, but I don't need to know). Still, it's cutting the garden back nicely so far, and there's free manure for the green things Tanith tells me are going to turn into food.

No, I don't know about these things. Why would I? I was born in the Lowers. I didn't /see/ a living cow until I was in my teens. Anyway. This cow is called Mooffin, after a battle of puns that must have left the Queen of Endings smiling. It was, to quote a friend, udderly hilarious. No, that wasn't mine, but it was moojestic.

It was good to dance the storm again, to hear the reactions of a crowd to a roil of scarlet silk. Here, where so few know the sandstorm's power and terror, the name of the Scarlet Storm is just a name, perhaps a little grandiose. There? There it was a name to live up to, for the consequences of failure were dire indeed.

But it is nice to know that I have not lost my touch.

Relationship Note on Audgrim

I was recently gifted a very lovely pair of boots, which I learned were made by Messere Audgrim. I had nothing that matched (a situation I am quickly remedying), and so I went to his shop to see what other goods he might have or be able to make. After a brief talk, and some measurement taking, he created an incredible skirted corset to match the boots. This is one of those pieces that makes me feel amazing when I put it on. I am so pleased with his craftsmanship and eye for detail.

The Rhythmn festival was such a treat for the senses and Aconite was the perfect host, I never know where to stand at those sort of things and apparently? I've been informed-- that is because one is meant to /dance/ at such functions. It seems I'll need dance lessons, moving forward.
