The Velenosa dinner was a splendid affair. Appropriately decadent, as one would expect. There was a boar, and a chocolate boar heart. I don't much see the sense in covering a boar heart with chocolate, but to each their own I suppose. I do find it a terrible tragedy that Ophelia did not eat it with her hands, as she should've. But I'm impressed she didn't throw it back up.
It was good to see so many in attendance, all from different Houses. Except for the Valardians, I noted. Perhaps they don't like eating dinner or drinking wine, as much as they do not like drinking whiskey or fighting. Oh well, more for me, I suppose.
I have to say, Princess Isolde was the highlight of the evening, and I was happy to entertain her.
There was one man there, though, that I've never seen before..

We are bonded by will, as you say and I agree. The Lyceum have a strong leader in this one. And I a friend, or so I hope.

The Rose of Tor, this is what they call me here in Arx. I would be lying if I said I did not like the nickname. It is part of my family's sigil and anyone who knows anything about Tor knows about our roses. To be dubbed 'The Rose' is a great honor even if I do come with a stem full of thorns. I am always intrigued by who is brave enough to tend to my garden without protection.

Don't ever ask me to play beach-ball again. I'm simply not doing it. I got covered in sweat, coated in sand and someone tried to pulverise my face.
What would the Radiant think if she saw me now?
Catastrophe.

You know what is not tasty? Raw organ meat. Actually, it didn't taste like much of anything but blood, but that TEXTURE. The things we do for love.

I opened the doors of my estate to my Vassals, and my Vassals' Vassals. I opened them, too, to my friends outside the Lyceum. I protect and serve the South, but I protect and serve more than the South, too -- I protect the Compact. We are, all of us, partners in unity, and it will be a unity we must fight to protect. We must dig in our nails and fight harder than we have had to fight in a very, very long time. Oh, but the dinner was nice. There was boar.

My mother was a wicked cruel woman. Perhaps turned that way by the men of Darkwater. Still, even in her wickedness she saw me live long enough for a ship to claim me. A mercy not bestow on many children. As it was common to drown a child than to have them endure the cold and dirty streets of the Darkwater Watch. To this day, when I close my eyes, I can still see her wretched face, scarred and burned by the hate of this world. She was a survivor who met her death at the noose for the embarrassment of some wealthy john. In the end, it was her temper that got the best of her. I do remember a song she used to sing when my teeth were growing and the silence of a fuzzy infant was imperative to the survivor of it and its mother. It goes like this;
Farewell and adieu unto you Setarco ladies
Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Setarco.
For it's we've received orders for to sail for old for old Thrax.
But we hope very soon we shall see you again.
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Darkwater sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar across the salt seas.
Until we strike soundings in the Saffron Chains
From Maelstorm to Darkwater Reach is thirty-five leagues
We hove our ship to with the wind at sou'west, boys
We hove our ship to, our soundings to see
So we rounded and sounded; got forty-five fathoms
We squared our main yard and up channel steered we
Now the first land we made it is called the Saffron Chains,
Next Caith off Setarco, off Lenosia
We sailed by Southport, by Tor and Sanctum
Till we came abreast of the South Telmarch Light
Then the signal was made for the grand fleet to anchor
All in the Downs that night for to lie
Then it's stand by your stoppers, see clear your shank-painters,
Haul all your clew garnets, let tacks and sheets fly
Now let every man toss off a full bumper,
And let every man drink off a full glass
And we'll drink and be merry and drown melancholy
Singing, here's a good health to each true-hearted lass.

Well then.
I'm sitting on this idea of taking on the Guildmaster post for the Crafters Guild, and while I sort of ... volunteered for it for the sake of my peers, I'm a little daunted by how much work needs to be done.
I need quite desperately to speak to my fellow crafters. I'm not about to take a position without their apathy at the very least, and the majority of their support at best. I know how most of us work; we are devoted to making and tend to desire little else outside of practicing our trade except to create in peace. Most of us.
Gods help me. It's going to be like herding cats.

The Sword of Bastion is totally the kind of man most women swoon over. He's tall, dark, handsome... I may have written about him before and said similarly if not the -same- exact thing but that only proves I truly mean it. But what do I know about this man besides his striking good looks? I know he's a charming and chivalrous, he's loyal to his family and a romantic at heart. There isn't anything about him that turns me away and I hope that only means I'll be getting closer and closer as time goes on.

Talen and I went hunting together. It was way past due. It's been a while since we've had a chance to talk. I was reminded of how well he and I work together, in the way that we took down that boar. I should strive to spar more often with him, perhaps even more hunts. It felt right to reconnect with the man that is like a son to me, again.

Well, that went better than I expected. Not even a small lecture on noble responsibility. Instead, he refers me to a weaponsmith for my men and just wants to check that I'm not an imposter. A reasonable suspicion, given my disappearance. He did prod me to try and make amends with father though. I'm still not sure if I even want to bark up that tree, let alone go near it.

Princess adventurer. When I first considered taking her own as a student, I have no idea I was a potential recruit. Prince Abbas Thrax, the Lion of the Dark Waters. He came into my shop seeking a very specific commission. While I never sew and tell, it was an interesting meeting, and one I shall have to repeat once the clothing is done. Perhaps I misjudged him when we first started speaking, but I did have respect for the man when he left.

Valkieri
It is impossible not to see the things that Valkieri and his brother share; those habits and gestures and minutiae that make them both Rubino. It is hard to sit across a table from him and see it, while the pain in my heart digs a bit deeper with every sigh.
Much easier when he has fallen into a Valkieri mood, when he sneers at me and makes that perfect little scowl that can hide nothing of his anger. It is refreshingly different than Zaccheri's charm.
