The Crafter's Fete put on by Lady Dawn was certainly an interesting affair. I didn't know what to expect, but I was damn proud to see one of my own up there on the dias - Mistress Morrighan. That girl has talent, and she deserves the honor tonight.

I'll have to ask Dawn where she found those acrobats though. I need a few of them in the Great Hall, bending into shapes of bears all day and night.

Firstly, I am not one for dinner types of social gatherings. That Lady Dawn arranged such a thing for the crafters of the city, and seeing what a wonderful time I had a Market Day, I could hardly /not/ attend. I could not be more glad that I did. For one, everything was beyond imagining. Truly, I was almost overwhelmed with how stunning ever last detail was. The food, the drink...I felt spoiled, to be honest. Those who came out, too, were such honored people to see. Even Prince Edain attended! I could not ask for a finer patron.

The company at our honored table, holy oaths but I can't remember when I laughed so hard! The famed fashion maven, Mistress Myrinda, was in attendance and as refreshingly blunt as I have been lead to believe. Mistress Joscelin and Mistress Morrighan were also there, as well as Sir Silas. I swear I nearly died ten times near-choking with laughter. We half-spoke about perhaps doing dinner gatherings at times ourselves, based on this. I say quite often that Lady Dawn is generous in both word and deed, which I genuinely mean. It was a kindness and one I'll not soon forget.

I knew Lady Dawn was planning something but I didn't expect it to be quite so grand. Goodness. She went far and beyond what I thought.

And those that attended ... gracious. Wonderful. Ianthe looked to be enjoying herself, as did my peers, and I am grateful for that. The teasing, the laughter, the inside jokes and comments that will haunt me for -years- ... sigh.

All in all, a Fete well done.

Relationship Note on Augustus

Another House Grayson Prince, the Duchess Nadia Nightgold's grandfather. Some realation or another to Lady Dawn. So hard to keep track of nobility. He's a crusty fellow. Not sure what I think of him yet but I'm pretty sure he looks down his nose at me.

I watch the Graysons play host to all of Arx and can't help but think how -exhausting- that must be. I truly hope they can take the time to relax and simply enjoy the Festival, without the burden of responsibility upon them. Everyone deserves a chance to be entertained, than simply to entertain. I shall have to make this event as epic as possible

Training has been going well, I think. It's been good to divide by time more evenly between pugilism and smithing. Managed a set of armor as requested by Princess Freja, who I'd craft for a thousand times over. The set was well received by its new owner and much as I tend to dislike crafting armor, I came away rather proud of the pieces. The shop emptied, which happens from time to time, so I returned to the forge to make some more hairpins. I need to get up a few swords and daggers, really, but in time.

Relationship Note on Cara

Lady Cara came to us from the Lyceum, honored wife to Lord Addison of Ashford. To my great grief, Lord Addison was one of the many lost among my brother's retinue when he departed the city before his Rest. A widow now, she has remained with us and though I can do nothing but ache with her for what she's lost, I am also grateful that she has decided to stay in Arx. The strengths she brings, her grace, intelligence, and good judgment, are all things which we need on our side in these dark days.

Relationship Note on Aislin

The only people truly capable of keeping up with a Grayson on an adventure are the Ashfords. Lady Aislin is the prime example of this. The tales of her exploits were fodder for my youth, when I dreamed of another future for myself, one spent in the wilds rather than the study. She might scoff to learn that she was one of my early heroines but the truth is worth recording here, for all to read. One day, I will contrive to arrange both Lady Aislin and Princess Lou at a table, ply them both with copious drinks, and simply let them them regale me with the true stories of the tales I feasted so hungrily on as a girl.

Relationship Note on Samantha

After my father died, Duke Gabriel Bisland became my guardian and Alaric's regent. I still remember how, while we were still heavy with grief, he brought us home and how Samantha was there to be a shoulder to cry on. She too had lost her family and that was a bond between us that I expect will last our entire lives. For all of the tragedies in her life, she has never lost her hope or optimism. Hers is vision that sees so far ahead, to a world better than the one we have now. I do worry sometimes that the harsh realities of the world as it is now, and the slow speed at which change is enacted, will wear on her. But thus far she has borne up well under both the weight of her position and visionary for a better future.

Relationship Note on Mason

I will write his name here because it is far easier to write than it is to pronounce. Prince Masun'al'ajionij came to us from the Dune Kingdom of Ahj'on, and achieved a feat that no one could have expected: he won the heart of Princess Lou. No one was more surprised than me when she returned with a husband, but the more I see them together, the more I speak with the Prince, the more I realize how well matched they are. He is the cool current to her bristling energy, and he has taken to his new home with a grace that speaks well for his character.

He has also kindly agreed (he and Lou both) to consider naming their first-born daughter after me and I will confess to possessing ego enough to be both touched and pleased by this (though I do record for posterity that the suggestion was initially a way to tease our Lou).

Relationship Note on Lou

Princess Loucia is another of my second cousins, and hopefully she will forgive me using her full name in this entry when I say that of all of my cousins, she is the one I most envy. While we were growing up, I looked to her as the truest example of what a Grayson woman could be: bold, bright, strong, and driven to know the world around us. Had my life gone a different way, I might have traveled with her on her journeys, seen the wonders that she's seen, shared the same adventures.

But they are hers, and rightfully so. Childhood envy has become adult respect and admiration. I know it's hard for her to be confined to the city but I also know that of all of us, hers is the strength to see us through. Political machinations cannot compare to the dangers she has so bravely faced in the name of Grayson.

Relationship Note on Barric

Second cousin and Sword of Bastion. We trained together as children before I put sword and bow away, trading them for quill and parchment. Like me, he came to his destiny early. I do not doubt that it was always in his fate to be named Sword, just as it was always in mine to support and shelter my brother as his Voice. But I suspect both of us would have been glad for more time to prepare, to better ourselves, to be ready for the challenges these days bring.

Still, he serves honorably and he serves well. And when he believes in himself as much as Alaric did the day he gifted our ancestral sword, he will be a force to be reckoned with in Arvum.

Relationship Note on Augustus

My great-uncle Augustus has returned to us from Lenosia. Though he spent most of my life there, I remember him well from visits because one does not forget a man like Uncle Augustus. He is upright and exemplary, the living example of what Grayson can and should be, with nobility etched in every line.

I lament, sometimes, how deeply his words can cut but he uses them with the intention of improving, of guiding, of lifting a person into their fullest potential.

Duchess Nadia and the House of Nightgold seem to be among the few Northern families that profess to follow the ways of the Pantheon instead of Shamanism. She is polite, intelligent, and curious.

Relationship Note on Sylvie

I met this Lady while i was in the bank depositing my winnings from the fencing competition. We proceeded to discuss how the remainder of the competition went as she had, for some reason, left before the end. It was an enjoyable meeting, and I ended up buying her a gift of hairpins. We met days after I gifted her with the hairpins so she could show me how she had had a gown made to match the hairpins I had gifted her with. She's a widower and I think looking for friends in the city who se likely wouldn't meet elsewhere.

When I was a boy, House Rubino in Gemecitta was the home I had when I could not be at home. I grew up there on the hill, overlooking the sprawl of the city, listening to hoofbeats on the stones.

If I hadn't gone there, maybe I wouldn't have become a man, I don't know. I know I wouldn't have become the same man. I love what that childhood helped me to become, and I have lost no love for Valkieri, or for Cara, or for the hills of Gemecitta.

But a Rubino's house is not my house. I am a guest here. It is not my home.

I must remember.

There is only one thing in this city that is home to me.

And I must be a better behaved guest, I suppose.
