Relationship Note on Juliet
As a fellow Lycene woman with a 'reputation' (although admittedly in a far different way), I've always felt a certain kinship with Juliet. I know what it is like hear whispers in your wake. It seems we've both done the thing we shouldn't and have embraced our reputations versus letting others define us. People don't tend to like it when you don't act ashamed. They take it even worse when you adopt their insults and turn them into something else altogether. Juliet does this even more beautifully than I have.
Despite the scandal, I think anyone that underestimates Lady Juliet is a fool. She's quicker than most. It almost makes one wonder if the 'reputation' is as accidental as it might appear to be...

Going over all of the plans for the upcoming siege and the efforts beyond the walls to keep things safer here, I am reminded that we truly have some of the most talented minds and fierce hearts working towards the survival of humanity. While there are some who would crumble at the monstrous task that lays before us, the are others that would rise to meet the challenge. I would like to note a few in particular. They are not the only ones who have stood out to me, but they have left an impression very firmly on me this past week.
Princess Alis Valardin - A steadfast commander who loves her people fiercely. She has been instrumental in rallying troops and supporting me with an ear to listen and advice when I need it.
Prince Talen Velenosa - When give direction, Talen takes action and swiftly. I appreciate how well he can rally others to a cause.
Regent Duke Gabriel Bisland - He has been an welcomed ally and steadfast supporter of my command on this upcoming mission. I appreciate the level of trust he places in my ability.
Lady Eirene Malvici - I always know that Eirene has us covered when it comes to on-site medical needs, but she has really stepped up to make sure all of our bases are properly covered and communicated.
These names are just a few of those who have take the extra steps and pushed a little harder than they were being asked to. I am proud to fight beside all those dedicating themselves to this effort.

Relationship Note on Julea
Still consider her one of my closest friends in all of Arx. She is a pillar in the face of the winds and so too it is with a eye of regret and a hand of help she moves on into a new realm where Haati does not wish to be himself. That of the nobility and all it's trappings that one can not shirk off... Especially those that will help all of Thrax, even if it mean a marriage.

Having met with her again, there is a strong willed woman that runs the mechanization of the guild and all that are a part of it and insightful as well. She understands those that are int he guild and has been through quite a troubling time with the house of Thrax. I suppose it is all i can hope that after hearing of such horrid tales she has come through it stronger, but also still willing to sit and chat with a Thraxian male.

An interesting woman this Whisper and someone I'll have to look into more as time goes by. Perhaps she may be able to help generate interest in the shop if she decides to become a part times clerk for the shop itself. She certainly has the mind of the sale and the allure to go along with it.

Fire. It is a powerful thing, potentially destructive and damaging when out of control. Yet, it has the ability to keep us warm during the coldest of winters, and to illuminate the darkest of nights. When my heart broke into a million pieces, only the love of my daughters managed to put it back together. Only their presence kept me from giving in to the heartache of loss, and it is an ache I feel keenly still.
Then another blow was dealt when I lost my daughter, one of two that managed to keep me together during a very dark time. My heart could have broken right there and then, but it didn't. Fire, it can be used to forge, to build and repair. It can burn and it can sooth. And it helped illuminate the dark tunnel I had to walk through.
You are a flame that burned through my night, that kept me from turning into ice and shattering, and because of this there no words that can properly say, thank you.

Michael being infatuated is nothing new.
Michael mentioning a girl to me is nothing new.

But for him to suddenly talk politics while doing that?

I had a good governess.
My mother, who was also Voice of Gemecitta once (and was, by what others said when they could bring themselves to speak of her, clever and charming and everything a Lycene noblewoman should be), died when I was born. My father remarried when I was still little more than a babe-in-arms and left me to Duke Marco and his duchess to raise. For all intents and purposes, I was raised as my cousin's much younger sister. I was given the same education as her--one suited to a future duchess.
I drove my governess to despair. She tried to teach me about duty and politics and law and all I wanted to do was read poetry and chase ghosts. She only looked more and more disappointed, and railed against me for never listening. Once she told me that filling my brain with cobwebs was a poor way to honour the gods who had given me such a fine one.
She was wrong, however. I did listen. I just didn't care.
This week it all came back to me. Years of tutorings, all the books I squinted at while trying to hide poetry and ghost stories behind them. All the things I must do, for Gemecitta, for my family, for my cousin.
I'm not sure I was meant for this either. Perhaps the gods who gave me a clever brain also gave me too soft a heart.

One of my oldest friends. Maybe something more? It's always hard to tell with Luis, so much is bluster and show. And yet, I think there is more beneath it all. Maybe we can't ever really be more than just friends, but I care enough about him to be glad that I can at least make his road smoother.

The great city of Arx is great indeed. It's one thing to look at a city on paper, to imagine how many people must be there, how quickly the world must turn, and it's another entirely to be surrounded by it. It's thrilling, and exciting, and for a moment I feel like I'm drowning, only to find my feet just long enough to take a breath. It's a challenge of the best sort, and one I look forward to conquering.

Relationship Note on Katarina
We came across Katarina at what I am sure was rather a low point for her, all things considered. Her story is hers to tell, of course, so I will not rehash it here. I will just say that she's been a delight to have with us, as a ward of Valardin. It seems that nothing will dampen her enthusiasm to forge ahead and learn a new way of life here in Arx. I only hope that I steer her in the right directions and am able to help her learn what she needs and wants to know, so she can make the kind of difference she'd like to.
