I would have made an amazing art history scholar.

Notes for a scent: Apple blossom lightness, honeysuckle sweet, bergamot brightness - layered with freshly turned earth and hay, salt, and new steel. Or, the taste of cold cider in a forged metal cup, cold - crisp - sweet red fruit with a hint, a suggestion of biting sour. Ensnarement.

Notes for a scent: Arms full of roses and a spice-laden stroll through an Isle city's streets. Yes - dewy red roses, waxy stem and leaf, bitter bite of aniseed for thorns, smoky chilies - warmed baking spices, and with candied ginger and roasted cocoa for the challenge. Provocation.

Darlings, travel is quite exhausting. I've arrived to Arx weeks ago and I'm still recovering from the journey.
Perhaps it's the lingering cold in the Arx air, or how delightful the Igniseri wine cellars are, that makes leaving the estate feel so unnecessary. But once it warms - perhaps after the coming celebrations - I shall simply have to see what changes have occurred, and if there are any new, amusing places to be found in the city which suit me.

I was recently approached by Prince Sebastian and His Highness is being inducted into the Scholars of Vellichor, where I expect his keen mind and extensive influence to be of great value expanding out reach and teaching. Additionally, the prince is very much willing to oppose those who threaten the COmpact and the Faith, making him a strong link in the chain of safety we are forging. Beyond that, we have several initiatives moving forward on different fronts with knowledgeable and skilled champions, efforts I believe will continue to make us stronger and safer.

Organizing belongings is rarely considered pleasurable, so often decried as a miserable task.
"Don't you have servants for that?" ask the offended nobles in a mummers' play!
"A lady or gentleman of quality would never spend their time so!" proclaims the wit. "Unless searching for evidence of treachery..."
I have spent too much time among Lycene playwrights of late, and does it not show? They are all the same wondrous and lyrically devious, though I digress. Sorting through boxes of fabric or letters and poems can be wonderfully cathartic. Here and there, slips of memory produce gems to be polished and admired. One or two might even be worthy of setting. I press my lips to an envelope washed in a faded scent. I trace the able hand of a correspondent, moving over faded ink, and cherish these renewed friendships with a bold, breathless regard.
All in a good day's work.

My return to Arx after a lengthy voyage across sea and land has been a splendid one. I've met fresh faces and seen old. I've even received a letter from a dear and cherished associate who is returning to the city soon. I'm eager to hear their own stories and see where it is they are headed. Though, truth be told disaster tends to follow that one like a trail of ducklings after their mother.
Overall, I look forward to another attempt at settling these bones of mine. Who knows, maybe this will be the time I'll stay.

Notes for a scent: A chill winter draft across bare skin, like a shadow shifting from the corner of your eye - a soft scent like the skittter-scurry of a spider across your brow before the ghostly press of a silken web is felt. Salt, cool stone, white musk and white linen and white sugar with a trail of white pepper. Phantasm.

Be generous with your friends. Be honest. Be even more generous with your enemy. Be even more honest. Give openly, give without expectations - this approach charms your friends - and it disarms your enemy. Give before you take everything. A word, a kindness, a favor. This can be a future distraction, or, a series of small acts toward a larger plan. This only works if you are utterly sincere, because false generosity never convinced anyone.

My little sparring session with Odin was quite fun., Although I did get my ass kicked. I put up a good fight tho. Hmph him making his little joke since we were kids about my sword being a stick. You try to use a stick as a sword ONE TIME, okay maybe a couple, and you never live it down. I most certainly missed that brother of mine.

I'm reminded today that those to whom evil is done often do evil in return. Those who are hurt will often hurt others.

It is a bittersweet thing, being promoted to Master Physician within the Physicians Guild. I have certainly put in the time and effort, but I cannot claim that time and effort without acknowledging all the lives I have touched as a result. The joy of helping someone recover from illness, welcome a new child, or heal an injury is set against the fact that illness and injury are unpleasant. The battles that have been fought, the horrific violence many have faced, have largely been the cause of my ability to earn this promotion.
To everyone I have ever treated, thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your lives. Thank you for standing against those who would see the promise of the Compact undone. I could not receive this honor without you.

Notes for a day-dreaming blend: velvety Torean red roses, zesty Ashford citrus, Lycene bergamot, with the sweet warmth of sandalwood and oak - lit with the glow of an accord of white fur. Languor.

I keep thinking of people I should talk to. I'm writing it down as it comes to me. This is a big responsibility. When I was younger I used to dream of becoming Archscholar; as I got older, I realized how much work that would be, how much responsibility. I didn't think it would happen, but... here we are. I hope to prove worthy of the position.
There have been a multitude of very kind missives. Again, thank you to everyone who sent them along.
If anyone would like to talk about the Scholars with me, please let me know. I'm still rearranging the office but I'll make the time.

Relationship Note on
Oswyn
It is not often I write for purposes other than reports or correspondence. I recently did and had the results illuminated by Brother Oswyn to breathtaking effect. He is Archscholar Oswyn now and congratulations ...to all of us! There is not a more conscientious curator of knowledge, who cares down to the tiniest detail and shares well and freely.
It is a heavy mantle he dons and the late Archscholar Sina was much beloved, though I see good things for the Scholarship and the Archive under his stewardship.

Relationship Note on
Zoey
With Princess Viviana returning to Setarco for a time, I had resolved myself to spend some time without a patron. Instead, I quickly found myself in an exchange of letters with Lady Zoey Kennex, whose friendship I have greatly valued. She is respectful, careful, and quite lovely, and after a lovely little dance of words, we have reached an accord. I am pleased to announce that Lady Zoey is my new patron.
