On the open waves we would pray for Mangata to let the wind favor us. On land we'd be praying so that she'd be fucking quick about sending us back on our boats so we could go back home. Funny thing living on an island, you're surrounded by nature itself on all ends and hope the sea will be kind to you. It's like living one with the goddess herself if you wanna get extra pompous about it. Since I got to Arx however many years ago it was now I stopped praying for the chance to fuck about the coastlines and grow fat in the Maelstorm on all the plunder of reaving. I've been praying for Mangata is tell me what the fuck her winds of change are supposed to mean. I think I'm getting it.
Some people wonder why I'm wearing Donrai's threads after all the terrible legacy that old serpent left behind. It's because I ain't got a single doubt in my mind that we can leave him behind. Everything that man represents can be steered into clearer skies and the waves he left can be broken to our will. No matter how many he killed, how many terrible things he did I will not sit by and let his actions influence a bleaker future for the rest of our house. These threads mean something different when I'm the ruler wearing them, they mean something stronger and better than he could ever hope for.
Times are changing. I was raised to know how to fight the current till my body gave up on me, but there'll be a time when you just need to go with the flow. I'm thinking that's where we are now.

Relationship Note on Calypso
My warrior general of a younger cousin. Only younger by about two years, but she has the wisdom of a woman far beyond her years. She has led our family and those of the compact to many victories.
We have grown closer I feel with each passing day, and I'm happy that I feel I can trust her with anything. Whether it's small things like borrowing her for a friendly spar, or having talks of serious matters seeking wisdom and advice, she's always been there for me, and I'm proud to always be there for her.

Relationship Note on Caelis
My dear sister. Ever since our parents lost their lives when I was just a small boy, and Caelis even younger, it's always been a hard journey to this point. Family and friends have made it easier, and I feel ever grateful that even though I was lost to being a soldier, traveling, and even having the fortune of marrying to have my precious child, that my sister and I have always been close.
She's come a great way, and I'm proud of all she's been able to accomplish. Her footwork and form has become much better! I'm blessed to have her as my sister.

While I was reading through historical journals, for various purposes, I came across the journals of a poet. Many of the poems were quite good, but one phrase in one poem lodged in my head, and I cannot let it go:
We dance in a circle and wonder;
the secret sits in the middle and knows.
How true this is, of so many parts of our lives right now. I have never been a man with much tolerance for mysteries; it was an aid in unraveling testimony and circumstance when I was a younger godsworn, doing the Sentinel's work. Now, it is almost a vulnerability - so many unanswered questions lead to frustration. Or worse, answers.

Faith is not an easy thing, and sometimes not a pretty one. The virtues demand much from men and women, and meeting them requires sacrifice in mind, body, and heart. Grandmaster Armel is not an easy man, but he is a good and godly one, and one I'm proud to know. He has helped me in many of my darker hours, and I pray we can confront the evils in this world together as warriors and friends.

I am so exhausted. I am almost completely about the ability to sew another stitch. I think a need a nap.

I simply had the most lovely conversation today over wine and nibbles with Princess Jaenelle Velenosa (formerly) of Thrax. Following that discussion, I took time to truly think about what she had said about meeting new people: a stranger is someone that you haven't met yet. I do not think that I am doing her words justice with my paraphrasing - but the point remains. She is so right.

My pearlescent peacock costume won best mask at the masquerade ball. I wasn't actually at the ball. I don't normally go those things, but I am flattered that my costume won and I think my work is getting better and better.

Its hard to believe that after all these years we finally lured you away from Southport and in to the city of Arx. I remember the first set of armor you ever made for me. It was a momentous occasion for me, my first set of commander's leathers. The hawk etched in to the back was so skillfully done, and the fit was perfect. When I went to the master leatherworker to thank him for his fine work, he almost accepted the praise. Almost. But when he revealed that the work was yours, I knew you were going to be special. We've grown together, parallel on sour separate paths in life. Just as I dedicate my all to my job and family, you are dedicated to your craft. Relationship Note on Caelis
I have always thought fondly of my Cousin Caelis. My ally growing up, even if she is younger than I am. But distance grows two people apart some times. She was off with the Navy and I was called to Arx, putting a great distance between us. I can honestly say that now that our paths have once again aligned I am delighted to have her in my life. She is kind but firm, a more sensible approach to our families tendency towards martial discipline. And I cherish her for it.
