Yesterday was kind of amazing.

I met three new people, two of whom I know I want to keep at my side as friends.

I also ran into a person I haven't seen in a long time. And we shared drinks and talked about mutual goals.

The weird thing? Their names all start with 'A' ...

Oh - that reminds me!

Duchess Tyde and I have met, and I've joined the Observers.

Aiden also helped me get into the Physicians as a caretaker of animals, working from his Menagerie.

I'm so happy!

Your official title has changed so many times in the last couple of days, I forget what we have settled on. Either way, I am going to need you to sign all of your documents with your newest title. Lord Tomwell of Exactly One Frog and One Princess.

Allegiance earned her name when her first wielder, a man driven to excesses and vice, was killed by third-parties who tried to seduce him away from his duty. He refused, stating: "Not for my honor, but for that of my family." When he was slain, they cut him to pieces and sent each to Ostria.

The favor was returned shortly afterwards, the wergild paid in blood and pounds of flesh of our erstwhile enemies and though those responsible left a note in his mouth, the message that was received was entirely different from that of the intended.

The price of allegiance isn't death; it's redemption. The Swords of Ostria never wavered from their duty.

A little food for thought.

I also had a pretty good night after the Donkey Knights. Very happy about that, despite the sad note that started the day.

Those of the Faith need to be very careful when dealing with the Great Houses of Arvum and their vassals. Never should it appear that we work for them or on their side as members of the Faith, for then we forfeit our place as neutral arbiters of their disagreements. It is easy perhaps to do this for the Godsworn - our life is easy, we simply reject positions that place us in that bind. For our disciples, who run two lives - that within and without the Faith - it is more difficult. I would encourage them to separate those two lives as far as they can. If you refer to yourself as disciple in an act, refrain from then acting on behalf of a house. Even if it seems like a small crossover, the concept of the Faith as a Temporal power is a dangerous one. If we were to became so, I do not think many would allow for the travel of our Templars, our Knights of Solace, our Mercies or others across their lands. They would question why they must pay tithe to what they now see as a rival. And it is mistrust that causes such great harm to the Compact. You only need to look at Thrax, and ask yourself what the mistrust between their nobility and the Faith cost them and the Goddess Mangata, when had we instead trusted and worked together - as good Prince Victus now guides - then perhaps we would be in a stronger position now. And lives might be saved that must now be spent in defense of the realm. I suppose what this ramble says is that Trust is precious, and when you act as a disciple, as a godsworn, as even the Dominus, you spend and gather Trust for something much larger, much more important and as part of that, your small slight that seems unimportant may become large.

Relationship Note on Orazio

With the kind support of Father Orazio and the Faith, the new armour is complete. It about emptied my bank account, and took more coin than I feel comfortable with, but hopefully it should ensure some greater longevity for guarding the Dominus in case the enemy should come to Arx. It is also the first non-standard Templar armour I have owned, which should help others find me on the field. Which I suppose they must do now.

There's few I respect as much as I respect this woman. Every time I've seen her fight she moves like a ghost. It takes me a good half an hour to tire her out so I can actually land a hit on her.

This one's sung to the tone of the Jolly Oathland's Shepherd.

Gallant Milicent the slayer,
of big ghastly foes galore,
wandered through woods long untrodden
since those dreary days of yore.

And Bolfobric her squire,
with her packs upon his back,
he trod on after her footsteps,
sighing as the night turned black.

While she fought o'er hill and valley,
And slew fishbeasts in a brook,
He sat underneath his lantern,
Reading from some ancient book.

While she battled wolven fiends,
And a drooling dark nightmare,
He picked up their bones and treasure,
And then cleaned them with great care.

When Milicent turned and saw him,
sorting loot by hue and size,
She yelled, "You cowardly squire,
Good thing you've got pretty eyes."

She growled as she crushed a ghoul,
She grunted as she cleaved a ghost,
Deaf to Bolfobric's soft warnings,
As they strayed deep and got lost.

Deep in the woods slumbered bigger,
Badder beasts of times long gone,
And Milicent's blade grew weary,
Long before the coming dawn.

And so as the demons teemed,
and then dragons, wyrms and hags,
the good squire gave to Millicent,
ancient trinkets from his bags.

And each one he carefully chose,
Bolfobric the slow but wise,
And as each beast fell down dead,
Sparks flew from her pretty eyes.

And when at last she kissed him,
and he cried, "Oh, your Highness!"
She cried "I'll never underestimate
the value of preparedness!"

The skill of the warriors in Arx has been nothing short of astonishing. I've been able to hold my own as a fighter back home, while I wasn't as good as many of the best that I knew, but here? Most of the fighters I've met could beat the best that I've known all my life, and I've only been here for 2 weeks! I can only imagine the incredible fighters I'm about to meet as I establish myself in my new home in Arx.
