Relationship Note on Fortunato

You are correct, the spiral can not always go upwards. But my goals should always be higher. I should strive to be better, while having patience with myself when I do not meet them. But I have the hope that I can be what I wish myself to be.

Concerts? Boring?

Mae, how hard did you hit the man? Clearly he suffers from wounds most dire to have lost all sense.

Mmm. No. I don't think so. Concert sounds boring.

I wouldn't have smeared her blue paint if she hadn't lunged at me.

And drink! You also really love to drink. While fighting? Asking for a friend.

You keep suggesting you don't write well. Your Whites suggest the opposite, Archlector. You should have more faith in yourself.

Relationship Note on Esoka

Deepwood is rich in life and loyalty and Dame Esoka embodies that. I am completely intrigued and inspired by her presence and glad to have her help with aiding my efforts in the preparations of Deepwood's newest force. I know they will be in good hands. Good company and good humor, I look forward to further working with her.

Relationship Note on Wylla

Dearest Archlector, fear not, odes to your beauty have been composed, and copies distributed to all worthwhile musicians, singers and bards to spread across the entirety of the Compact.

As an aside, why yes, the Song of Alar has been completed!

Relationship Note on Mae

I'm so sorry nobody stopped this, Mistress Mae. Master Magpie, you are obligated now to come to the concert to show your respect for art, including Mae's. I think that is a fair penance.

Master Itzal Culler, I hope you're working hard on that composition I asked of you.

I was very fortunate today to be of service to Master Torian Culler, who runs a teaching program for orphans in the Lowers. I will admit, it is the first time I have ever offered instruction to children of the Lowers, but found them to behave much like children of any other place, save for their surroundings and lack of education.

It did mean that I had to adjust my presentation style somewhat, as the most difficult transition was in addressing their lack of vocabulary. Despite this, however, I think we managed to do well. The first half of the day was spent on basic arithmetic; the second half was on budgeting skills.

Now I know there are some who think children, particularly orphans, are too young to learn about budgeting. To this I would most vehemently disagree. These children will grow up to be laborers, tradespeople, perhaps even business owners. The only way to get ahead in life is to be able to manage incomes versus expenses. I hope that this concept, though basic, will be retained as these children grow and begin to leave their orphanages. While it is a simple lesson, it is hard one; more than a few nobles could stand to learn it again.

I do confess that I was more eager to assist Master Culler to know that dear Caith would be proud of me for doing so. I know, Caith dear, that I can be a difficult grouch at times, but I do hear and heed your words, even if at times it seems I do not.

I shall close out the evening with a very hot bath and a very tall glass of Maelstrom White.

Reviewing the troop numbers we've got available after this last banner call has reminded me of an all together important fact about the Northlands:

We really love to fight.

Relationship Note on Driskell

Is the great virtue to crave success and therefore risk pride (and titles) or to crave no success and do nothing, and so have no titles at all? I hope the latter. It would be far more convenient for me. It is, after all, very cold outside.

Relationship Note on Reigna

Today, I am choosing to recognize the limits of my control.
Today, I am choosing to see the complexity in my world and those around me.
Today, I am choosing to try myself, knowing my best self is not someone I know yet.
Today, I am choosing to make changes I desire, knowing I may change and not desire them later.
Today, I am choosing to continue.

Tomorrow I may be better. Tomorrow I may be worse.
Tomorrow I may be stronger. Tomorrow I may be weaker. Tomorrow I may be wounded. And tomorrow I may recover. A cycle is not ever upward. Winter precedes the spring. This is also the road.

For Honor (Week 2)
After the first week in Arx, I have become intrigued at how the city is such a melting pot of
different cultures co-existing for a common goal. I have yet to sit down and have a conversation
with Duchess Calista for pressing business has taken up all her time. No matter, I wished to
maintain a good image for our house and see that we are seen as fulfilling our duties to the
Compact so I reached out to Duchess General Calypso to offer her my assistance in the Ministry of
Defense. I have also met an intriguing woman, a Lady Oriana.

The Arrival (Week 1)
The first week back to Arx from Tor seems rather uneventful. I have returned to Arx in light
of the impending attack on the Compact to stand at the side of my cousin, Duchess Calista
in these trying times. It took several days for me to completely get settled into the
city, the winter cold being bitter and I can not wait for spring. It seems many of my fellow Fidantes
in Arx find themselves very busy and I haven't had a chance to really sit down with any of my
family. Though I have met with several people in key houses in Arx. We will have to see how
things go in the future.

I have always been wary of those who hoard and collect ranks and titles, as if such things truly meant anything to mortals. You will lose them all, care you don't lose what is more valuable while you wear them momentarily.

I have decided to take up painting. Some folk will tell you that you'd better pick one thing and be very good at it. I'm good enough at fighting, even if I'm no match for some folk, I expect I could beat most, and I do well enough in the field. And a woman can't spar and fight all the time, it'd be a dull life indeed. If you ask me, doing nothing but work and duty is no life worth living.

Seeing as all else is just something to do, I think I might as well try my hand at a whole number of things. I was at the thing they did at the Shrine of Jayus, where they had paint and canvas for folk to paint on. Now, I sometimes do some drawings and put some pictures here in my journals and other places, but painting's different, with all the color and everything. I'm sure there's much skill and technique that goes into it, seeing as half what I tried to paint just turned into a smudge of sorts, especially the little things, and that's what I like in a painting. As with most things, I've much to learn.
