Gods, I can't get the smell of charred meat out of my nose.

It's been a very long time since someone has properly tried to kill me. I think I must have forgotten how much a blade actually hurts, or I think I would have made more of a point to dodge it. Not only do I have a nasty cut on my side, I have a number of broken ribs.

I am accepting visitors at the House of Solace, as well as gifts - but maybe not hugs for a while.

Anything deep fried or sweet will earn my affection. Food that doesn't require chewing (such as soup) will earn my eventual wrath.

Arx, what a wonderful pile of rocks. Spending time at home bouncing along the coastlines I'd forgotten the smell, but it's a little nostalgic to have walked through the city again. It's still hard, but it feels like an old wound now and I can breathe again. I've been catching up on the news since we docked, still it seems life moves ever faster. It's nice to be home.

Elora gifted me a new pair of caestus yesterday! They are way unbelievably beyond the old ones in quality, lighter and harder and tighter. They have metal bear claws, too! I am very happy with these and will need to get my butt down to the sands and try them out soonest. No real progress on the boat except that the family is looking at purchasing some ships and I may just ride those coattails to take one as my own. Elora is in good shape, the pregnancy without incident andshe has been doing the midwife arrangements. All in all a quiet week but still filled with good news.

Choice. the greatest gift a free person has. The ability to choose. Its so often taken for granted, or even despised, as choice brings consequences.

As battle lines are drawn, we all have made choices, choices of what to fight for, and chocies of what to die for. To all those who stand with the side of slavery, division and strife, i ask that you take this chance you have now. Choose wisely before the consequences come, beacause we are coming.

The storm seven years in growing
With one murder all oaths broke.

Now to battle all ships rowing,
War begun in blood and smoke.

What lay ahead there were no knowing:
Victory, death, or famine's yoke.

"Our wrath unto thy crimes owing,"
So the Lords of Mourning spoke

Relationship Note on Ksenia

Ah, Limerance. How long has it been?

For as much as Arx has changed, its soul remains the same. The Archives creak with the weight of stories old and new; how many more have been added since I last visited? I fear that I will spend many a lifetime ere I satisfy the curiosity, not only of the stories of Arvum but tales from other lands too.

While exploring the Great Library and waiting for my cookies to cool, I came across a most remarkable woman hailing from the eastern edge of the Mourning Isles. Though our time was short, it was spent in delightful discussion and I hope to see where her path in Arx will lead. Alas, I had forgotten what I had sought for in the Stacks by then, but no doubt I will be prepared to do what I came there to do next time.

The cookies will certainly be ready, of course!

The last time we met, I came to you scared and left braver than ever.

You were an incredible woman. A role model. A Way Forward. My sister by more than marriage, and my friend.

I will never forget.

What more can I say? This is heartbreaking. I mourn for the years that had gone by without us reconnecting. With this, two friends are lost to me.

Edward.

I always told people you chose the sea over me.
How guilty do I feel that it ended up being your brutal end?
Quite.

Was I your friend, or a means to an end
Conviction erodes to a blur
Now you are gone, lost somewhere beyond,
And I don't know what we were.

Relationship Note on Margot

There are some people in life you meet once, twice, three, or just a handful of times. The Duchess Margot Tyde was one of those people and each meeting I still remember years later.

She understood the narrow walkway of ruling House Tyde, of leadership. Of wishes and wants over what was best. She survived and then thrived as Duchess, rebuilding what Tyde had lost from the rebellion.

Her son, fortunate to have met him once, was cheeky but well-educated. He knew the position he would find himself in already at that young age.

May he be found, may justice be served.

Whenever slavery is presented as mercy, even common sense demands that the obvious misunderstanding be pointed out, let alone the teachings of the Faith. Skald was returned to us, and we came to know better as we learned of the immeasurable gift he gave us: freedom.

Politics is not our business, nor should it ever be. The Thirteenth's shrine stands ready to meet with -whomever- needs or wishes its services. We encourage it, actually, as the holy act of Reflection often leads to open minds and listening hearts.

But slavery is no mercy, no moral high ground. I'm damn sure of that.

If any thought the murder of Duchess Margot Tyde would weaken the Tydelands, they are fools.

This is not the first mentor I have lost, nor is this the first betrayal by family I have survived.

My heart is broken but not my resolve.

Relationship Note on Monique

I will never forget the night that she quietly encouraged King Alaric to attempt to steal the silverware at one of the Igniseri dinners. He was quietly sneaking the utensils up her sleeve as she was instructing him. He put them all back of course, but that was the Minx, through and through.

She and I had been friends for a long time. I cherished going to her parties and even got to send some signature wines for an unveiling. We made the sparkling apple cider for her for her wedding. And, I went on a merry chase through the city as we followed clues she and Brother Etienne littered across the city, puzzles for us to solve.

She will be missed. I mourn with House Greenmarch. As does Igniseri.
