Deepwood has become a home for so many, and continues to expand not just as a domain, but as a family as well. In addition to Nara and Layne (she keeps telling people Layne is her baby, which is both hilarious and bemusing), we've welcomed two additional children into the Micah, a bright, intelligent little boy of four, and Valarina, a nine year old girl eager to become a member of the Iron Guard one day.

In opening our home to these children, I am thankful for being blessed with a mother figure as wonderful as Iona Bisland, who opened her heart to me, an orphan child of four, and how she and Duke Gabriel opened their home to countless children even if only for the summer to help train them into being the people they are today. I only hope that all of the children in the Deepwood Household, from my own to those of the servants, feel that they are safe, loved, and protected. At the end of the day, that's all a child wants.

The Gilded Page is exceptionally honored to host copies of Count Giulio Corvini's works:

Still Reflections, Vol I: Proverbs for Courtiers in the Lyceum.
and
Still Reflections, Vol II: Considerations on the Life of a Courtier in the Lyceum.

The only copies available will be through borrowing from the library, or through a request to Count Corvini himself.

This work is a page-turner and well worth the read!

My first word was "golly," and as it so happens, I don't think I'd be all too comfortable with somebody trying to peel off my face to switch it out.

Traveling took a while longer than expected. I am meeting people - so far my meaningful conversations have been with fellow northerners, I have not strayed much outside the "Shaman's Walk" part of the town. I did go to the market a few times, it is a loud and colorful and fascinating place. I bought some feathers that were dyed pretty colors, and flowers. I have put them with some branches in a stone vase that was my mother's mother from the Hold. The vase is the same color as the waters on a late winter day, that cold blue-grey. With the silvery grey and browns of the branches and the greens and rainbow colors of the flowers and feathers it looks lovely. I have put it in a window in the great hall to add a little brightness.

*** There is a drawing of the vase with the flowers here, the background split: on one side is what might be the Clearlake Hold, a mountain fortress towering over a placid tarn. On the other side is the interior of a building, a fire roaring in a deep hearth. ***

Dearest Adoptive Grandparents,

I'm working at being better at writing to you. The letters I get from you tell me how yo guys enjoy hearing about what is going on with me. So, I want to try and write more often. I might forget too, though, as you know. I just wanted to show how thankful I am you adopted me as your grandchild. I know you guys wanted to make me your adopted child but I was very happy you wished to honor my memory of my parents by taking me as your grandchild.

Anyways, the past few days have been devoted to creating things for my shop and obtaining materials to be used. I am working on accessories and shoes in black and white. If they sell well I will start adding various colors and such. I have a big list of different accessories and shoes I am making. Hopefully people enjoy them and will express other styles, designs, colors, materials, and items they would like to see. I have been trying to use different materials so that everyone can enjoy them, even if they do not have much money. I put up the occasional clothing item as well. Fancy stuff like silk, umbra, aeterna, and so on are quite common here, it seems. It is strange since it was rare for me to touch anything so fine when I was a thrall.

I have met an interesting person. I don't know what to write about the person. Everyone has been very nice, which is rather unsettling for me since it was, more or less, indifference I faced as a thrall. Being treated well and being nice do not always go hand in hand.

I don't really have much else to say at the moment.

With love,
Sheena

P.S. I did make a second copy of this letter for public records. I hope Adoptive Grandpa is pleased.

Asharion's first word was "Dad," and I think that places him well ahead of his brother in terms of amiability; Tiber's first word was "No."

Asharion's second word was "dog". I believe he was trying to steal Steadfast from his cousins at the time.

Asharion's third word was "griffin". I think Aislin would be proud.

What would you do if you were given a different face for a day?

Would you track down your heart's desire and take it for yourself? Would you attempt something you could never otherwise do? Would you do something you otherwise wouldn't have the courage to do? Would you take? Would you give?

Closer and closer looms The Gala and the deadline for the Gilded Page Writing Contest. I'm looking forward to both, though perhaps one a little more than the other.

I enjoyed painting rocks at the temple of Jayus the other night and must commend Guardsman Fatchforth for his event. I never did get that other ear painted though.

Relationship Note on Faruq

As a patron, I ensure my protege has the proper equipment and training to do their duty. I mentor their development and in turn forge a strong tie to another house. So when I need someone to assist , they return the favor.

Ideally it should bear meaning. In my case, I have mentored the last three Swords of Greenmarch, the house of my birth. For it is in my best interest to see to my blood relatives safety.

Perhaps you can find a connection through your family tree or mentor someone that holds great promise.

Scars are no special thing.

Once in a fishing village near High Hill, when I was a year into my career, a boatswain shot me in the back with a crossbow over a local girl. When I turned to deal with him, his friend who had been waiting nearby stabbed me just below the heart with a fillet knife.

They fled and I leaned against the bar with blood running everywhere. The others looked away. After a while I sat on the floor and blacked out.

When I awoke a fisherman named Greene had taken me to his bungalow to heal. The local girl had visited one time in my recovery and said she'd be waiting when I was on my feet.

The next day in the cold of the morning I left.

Still have the scars from the crossbow bolt and the knife. But, honestly, I cannot recall the name of the girl or her face.

The point is, I guess, is there is no point. It is just a thing that happened. And those scars are proof of nothing.

My only regret, now that I consider it, is that I did not find that man and kill him before I rode on. Damn.

Relationship Note on Prisila

Cousin.

I am curious as to what you have discovered on the matter of Protege's and Patrons. I myself am considering the attempt at finding a protege but your words have made me second guess things that seemed plain before. What would I bring to benefit my protege beyond connection to me? What is that even worth to begin with, being so new to Arx? While it would very much benefit me if I did find one that complemented my skills well, the only thing I could offer is protection. Is that enough in a city that has the Iron Guard attending to it?

I do not know.

Something to think about further certainly.

It is humbling when one sings and when done those listening are openly weeping. Perhaps the sadness of that being the anniversary date of my husband and so many others at Setarco showed in the way I sang.

Last night, Holt drilled me until I couldn't stand anymore. At least I've gotten better at avoiding enemies' attacks in combat. After that, I made a fool of myself in front of the royal family that just happened to drop by the training center. At least they didn't see me get repeatedly beaten by Holt.
