My brother wrote something about me wanting to wrestle. Let it be said....He wants this more than I do. I think it's been awhile since he's been in any sort of brawl and deep down he misses it. I think we should have some sort of mud wrestling competition thing. Triton against....everyone!

I've agreed to help a friend in one of her---grand ideas? Needless to say, it'll be quite interesting.

A long time ago, Count Magnus and I decided to try and get used to the heat in a sweat lodge. In the middle of summer. So we sat there. For hours. Sweating, cleansing out all the things. Then we got out, greeted by the heat. Practically gasping for air. Because you know, still hot. I can firmly say, this was not one of our greatest ideas. It was awful.

Not sure why I thought of that, likely because summer is here.

Relationship Note on Ember

You were an equal participant. You're at fault too.

Perhaps to an even greater degree, too. Since as the ruler of your household, it was you who likely arranged the marriage and created the possibility of your current state.

I'm glad that we could clear that up and I wish you the greatest of good fortune for the remainder of your plight.

Roses can be very difficult to cultivate from cuttings. On the journey back from Tor, I think my traveling companions must have thought me half-mad that I paid for an extra seat in the caravan for my cuttings that were carefully and lovingly crated to keep them safe. Thankfully, they all made it here intact and so begins the process of trying to see them take root.

According to my mentor in Tor, the best fertilizer for roses is fish, which has necessitated a couple of trips down to the fish market in the Lowers and means that my garden doesn't smell pleasant, just yet. I have planted mint around the storage containers in order to help with the stench at the advise of Mistress Amelia who sells some of the most lovely fish on the docks. It's not easy stuff to work with, but it does the job.

I also gave the library a thorough dusting and aired out my rooms. Tanith tells me that I have a couple more nieces and nephews to dote upon and a couple more to arrive. I imagine that my parents' house is chaos right now and that they will forgive me if I keep my distance for the most part. I need more quiet than anyone else in my family. Some part of me wonders if that is something I got from my mother along with the nose.

I've agreed to help Triton with some issues he's having. He's going to either love me more or really REALLY hate me. There's really no in between I don't think.

I have no intention of dying anytime soon, but the Queen doesn't ask for my input. So my will follows:

To the Shrine of the Thirteenth, I request that the Faith allows the balance of my bank account be given to the Mirrormasks that they will not lack for resources in their duties to the Dark Reflection. I also ask to gift them my Mirrormask in hopes that others will remember the power of the Reflection. The tabard and long coat of Lord Tehom's Archlector should return to the shrine for the one that succeeds me.

Beyond these wishes, I don't care if someone wants a bit or bob. I entrust Father Vayne with the distribution of mementos. Ultimately, in accordance with my Vows, I leave my estate in the hands of the Faith to decide its best use.

The physicians at Redreef Shores tell me that I am about a month into pregnancy.

My armor's breastplate fits awkwardly and painfully.

I am tired from even moderate swordplay exercise.

Everything smells so vivid and intense in a way that makes me wish only to cut off my own nose and cauterize the crater.

How do other noblewomen end up with nine children? This has barely started and I am ready to swear to the gods that I will never let my husband touch me again, for what he's done to me. I will drink Limerance tea by the gallon until it's replaced at least one of my humors.

This child had better not be a pest or a runt. They had better be worth this trouble.

Relationship Note on Emara

Oh gods, Emara's back in town. I need to get hold of some strong drink before the pair of them empty my wine rack because it didn't escape in time. Time to visit the importers on my way through the Wards, see what I can lay my hands on.

Welcome home, Emara! Just give me a day or two to stock the cupboards properly before you drop by, alright?

I swear, it's worse than when Syd drops by, and that's bad enough... Oh. You weren't meant to write that bit down, Scholar. Oh well.

There are so many things people ask you to write down that need thinking over, Scholar. Profound? Yes, profound. That sounds like the right sort of word. So anyway, you read some of these things to me and I go away thinking. Sometimes I think that it's important stuff, well-said. Sometimes I think that it's got too many long words for what they were trying to get at. Sometimes I think it's total bollocks. But I usually go away thinking, at least for a little bit.

Thank you for that, Arvani.

A loftier creature would never stoop so low as to grip the sullied hand of a dying man nor kiss his fingertips while he bled in the dirt. she should not have cradled his skull of matted hair to her lap, nor brushed his eyes clear of the tears that gathered there. To say his name was sin enough and to know it intimately, every curve of every syllable over her tongue, was mortal. Truly, there was no more humble a creature than the woman who’s head was bowed over, arms wound about him who bled on her thighs, mud in her skirts, heart breaking under a merciless sun and a battlefield that ached with crows.

But it was her voice that edged his ears, caught his pain and set it loose. Her tears became the rain, her hair the silken sheets of their shared bed, and her scent permeating the air of a bower eternal.

Hmm? Oh. I'm not sure, scholar. It was just a dream.

Sometimes the evidence you have is all you need. A complex case doesn't need to be built up by piling on ever more tenuous theories and flimsy connections, especially when that mental scaffolding has a foundation of shaky assumptions and pure guesswork to begin with.

So in conclusion, sometimes it really is that simple. The hard part will be all the mountain climbing.

Donations are exciting.
Art pieces are exciting.
Donations of art pieces are doubly so!
And anonymous no less.

I am torn between investigating who the artist is and respecting their privacy. And what if they want to be found and are just playing hard to get?

All pieces will be displayed in the Art Festival next week!

What a glorious day this is, scholar. A -GLORIOUS- -FUCKING- day!

She's back! You know what this means?

Well, come to think of it I'm not allowed to tell anyone what this means, but it means a lot. She's the only sibling I have that doesn't strong-arm me into physician and midwifery chatter. Emara, the only sister I have, has returned!

Everyone, hide your plants!

Seems I keep discovering more and more things that happened while away from the city. Seems the Black Fox has become a 'cool' place to be in the summer heat, if you are Lycene, only that is not 'cool' in a good way.

Rosa has agreed to help me with my sleep problem. Elora is as well, so maybe I will become a normal sleeper...between the two of them, they should at least be able to knock me out! In fact, Rosa is bugging me to join her in the sparring ring so she can do just that.

A new flower found as well.

Someone suggested that I will channel my feelings toward writing a piece for the Art Festival.
It is not my tendency to play in public.
I'm quite nervous.
