I am grateful to those who came to remember Duchess Margot Tyde, Baron Edward Stormbreak, and the thousands of others lost in recent conflict in the Isles. It was good to spend time recalling stories of who these people were, the impact they had upon others.

No one will ever come close to replacing my former patron for the part she played in my life. If not for her, I would not have my husband or my children. Her trust in me ensured that we accomplished good things. She was brave, intelligent, and wielded her words as well as any might wield a weapon. I miss her terribly, and I regret that my twins did not get to spend more time in the company of their late saltmother.

Thanks also to Aviana Bertram for the beautiful beaded bracelets made in memory of the duchess. I have a few remaining, should anyone wish a trinket who was unable to attend the memorial feast.

Tonight my cousin died.

It was not his time, nor was it kind. Thornweave is not known for it's kindness, nor is the maw.

But I promise, we will rise. We will conquer and grow stronger. We have been kept in the dark for far too long and it will not be the case anymore.

No news is good news, maybe. Elora and the Many are doing well, the twin is not in new trouble, the House rolls along smoothly. All in all, nothing to complain about and no victories to celebrate. There is still the ship hunt and still the investigation into Elora's family tragedy, still the animal training and still my training. Lie cfontinues.

No. Still can't think of a rhyme that doesn't sound like broken glass to me.

Victory in war is so bittersweet. Much of my experience with the phenomenon has seen family on either side. This is no different.

These changes are not the death knell to our traditions that they have been characterized as. But there can be no swaying those determined to settle their differences by the sword -- or spear.

I mourn for House Grimkin, and myself, as I watch another proud noble house to which I am connected... halved.

It has been decided. Preparations are already underway. House Igniseri will be hosting a new Ball. It's been ages since our last. We are calling it the Wine and Elegance Ball. There will be drinking. There will be dancing. There will be a raffle. There will be a new wine debuted. I've already spoken to Ilira Starling about dresses for this ball and the one House Windfire will be throwing in Thrax territories. I'm excited for the designs that she will provide.

I spent a good deal of time shopping around the city, and I'm excited for some of the items that will be provided for the raffle. I've managed to obtain several of Dame Ida's swords; a lovely Oathlands style longsword with a water theme, a handsome greatsword with a green handle, and a beautiful rubicund longblade with rose-gold trimmings. I even have some of her most excellent hairpins I bought several years ago, featuring swans, hummingbirds, hawks, and warm sunshowers. I had intended them for gifts but never had an opportunity to send them along. Supporting House Thrax and the end of thralldom seems like a most worthy cause for them, and I'm certain they will all find new homes.

There are a few other odds and ends and there will likely be a few jewelry surprises too. And, of course, a basket planned with Lotties famous cookies and several wines. I am so very looking forward to this grand evening and can't wait to see who gets enticed by these most excellent choices. I shall be putting the chained bookcase in the atrium of Domus Igniseri for people to take an advanced look at those items on offer for the raffle.

Word of victory at Whitefrost reached my desk this morning. It is most welcome news. Without a port to stage against the Tydelands, I suspect the enemy will struggle to maintain any naval primacy north of Maelstrom. As predicted by so many at the war table, Grimkin's troops are now effectively isolated.

Will they survive the winter?

How good it felt to set sail again with those who would keep the seas safe from treachery, though as I bloodied Breaking Storm once more, it was to carve open a mystery which has yet to leave my waking thoughts.

There have been these little silver linings in my life as of late. They offer respite from reality. I've not made this journal official, not yet anyhow, but I am smitten and very much taken by this which has brought a ray of light into my life.

Relationship Note on Remus

It's always a delight to catch-up with my brother, Remus. He is sharp and focused. He has a unique skill for seeing both the bigger picture and the finer details. I look forward to these new things we've found in common, and what we might achieve there.

It's good to have him home. Well, this home.

This latest foray into the archives has been endless and infuriating. Perhaps I should move on to a less obscure subject. Cabbages? Brother Gimble's treatise on vegetable crops from the 9th century has a solid chapter on the humble cabbage that I have yet to fully digest. That might be just what I need. It may be more practical a read than all the loose ends and fragments that have led exactly nowhere so far.

This has been an incredibly productive week. I have met with so many people who reached out to me regarding my inquiry for an arborist. I was truly surprised by how many in the city had this specific knowledge. I suppose I now have some of this knowledge as well. There is still so much to learn. My mind is open and I am ready to accept as much information as is deemed possible for my mind. In truth, there were so many dossiers crossing my desk I had to schedule myself personal breaks. Now that I have rested, I am prepared for a new week.

Order. It's a word I know well, one that has been drilled into my very being. Whether I'm giving them, being given them, or even putting my things in some sort of organized way. I prefer it that way. Everything has its place. Properly.

When you feel a sting in your coinpurse when costs rise, know that there are those that feel an ache in their stomach or a chill in their home, or the inability to choose between paying their debtors and watching their family go without. Recall that there are more things at stake than the cost of arms, armor, jewelry, fine clothing, and luxuries. Those with means, be kind to those without, especially if costs continue to rise.

A small kindness can be the difference between living and dying when you're dancing a knife's edge.

A moment to breathe and to perhaps stop to be playful is a precious thing. As such, I am wisely reminded that one should always try to take a moment to reflect upon, and be grateful for, the good things.

That is not to say we should rest on our laurels or stop working toward our goals or that terrible things do not happen. It is more an opportunity to remember to appreciate the good that we have so that we might continue to keep rising and moving forward.

For this sage advice and these happy moments I am very grateful.
