Relationship Note on Juliet

I see journals written by someone who's name is painfully close to yours, and it makes my heart hurt a little.

I'm sorry things ended as ugly as they did.

I never did get my necklace back from you either.

Relationship Note on Dianna

I don't believe it is possible for a greater caliber of friend to exist... than the caliber of friend that is Dianna Godsworn.

I finally drag my ass back to Arx and then my family wants a dinner back home in Southport.

Now I get to go BACK to Southport, have dinner, then sail BACK to Arx. I don't mind boats, I just hate taking two four-year-olds on a sea voyage...

Relationship Note on Turo

I'd have to think that standing on one of those ships for its first voyage is the only thing better than seeing them launched.

It's been far too long since I sailed somewhere.

That moment when you see someone you thought was lost forever return once again.

Is there anything more beautiful and uplifting.

I can think of a rare few, but not many.

The world is a very dark place but people can make it so much brighter. I must do my part to make the world a better place. Sometimes that is by looking fabulous and other times it's providing people's needs. I'm fortunate to be in a place to help the needy. I have not forgotten you Baby Weegs.

I have heard about town that some are jealous of the success of the Grayhopes, bringing a caravel into our House.

That is fair enough. We /have/ achieved heights that even many noble houses have not.

But look at it this way: The Grayhopes have long been known as Arx's premier marine logistics provider. It would be damaging to our reputation to NOT have a caravel to meet our clients' needs.

So don't hate us; hire us.

Messengers always welcome.

I haven't written for quite some time, a fact that seemed slightly strange when I came to the realization. Between being ill and otherwise engaged in my personal endeavors, there's been a surprising amount of calm. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was peaceful, but it was a period of relative quiet all the same, aside from the illness.

I've volunteered to assist a project of Lady Laurent's, one which I would very much like to see succeed. The more stability and security that can be brought to the Great Road, the better, and this project would hopefully do both, given enough time and backing by the peers. Still, with any road that one walks, it requires steps to be taken; one cannot finish the journey without taking them. First one, then more, and eventually one arrives. While I can't see the destination for this particular path, I intend to make sure it is a /safe/ one.

The wedding wrecked me more than I thought it would.

I wore pink because it'd be funny. Savor it while it lasted and too bad to those that missed it!

That isn't why it wrecked me. Just rubbed me raw that it was what I wanted, but was only used to insult me. I want to be over it, but my pride is still hurt. I don't still love one that is that dishonorable and hurtful to one supposedly loved. Still, my pride. The things I want should not hurt.

It wasn't fun until I got to dunk my sister in the pool of wine. Can you believe there was no rum? Who does that?!

Also, I was reminded of the Princess gig. I dread that. I do not want any bit of it. It'll ruin my reputation. Being Lady is bad enough. I chose the Wanton, not a dress. I'm Wanton, not Princess.

I would like to thank several people for helping with the Roseward's enduring little problem. They all displayed level heads and amazing competence in a dangerous and horrific situation. Marquessa Quenia Igniseri, Lady Eirene Malvici, and Lord Mirk Halfshav. The Marquessa of the Roseward and I would like to express our most sincere gratitude.

If my brother is complaining again about sea travel then obviously I need to make him more comfortable at sea.

Some training in the art of sailing may be needed.

On Weapons and Wielders

Often one might think that any sword, axe, or spear will do, when that is not necessarily true. Especially for swords, where the size of the wielder, the length of his or her hand from wrist to the fingertips among other factors will determine how well they can wield it. The fact is, an oft underappreciated ability of blacksmiths in general is their capacity to properly measure a person and fit the weapon to those measurements, ensuring it doesn't throw the wielder off-balance, nor that it is too cumbersome to be used in the way it is meant to be used.

For instance, some smiths tend to measure the total length of someone's arm to determine how long a blade can be before it is no longer of utility to the user. This allows the wielder to use that weapon as an extension of their limb, and requires no great feat of physical strength; the key to a good attack is in the swing and how well executed it is, rather than any strain on the muscles of the arm itself.

With swords or weapons that are used with both hands, this is even more evident, given it takes some gyration of the torso to swing and subsequently connect the attack to greater effectiveness. Regardless, a smith has more understanding on how to make the blade more effective to the wielder at first than, perhaps, the wielder themselves.

So next time you get yourself a weapon made, or improved, or changed substantially to fit your specifications, make sure to let your smith know how much you appreciate their work.
