I don't know what to tell about the battle. I feel that I did what I was meant to do for it, and I was able to assist in learning of the forces and their number before they arrived. But no one could be prepared for what we would be against on the battlefield. People fell on both sides, but by brave actions of a few we were able to retreat safely. Their surviving is a miracle, and so is the fact so many of those that lead others are as well. I count my friends and realize all of them are alive as best I can tell. For the first time, regardless the power of the enemy, I feel like we came out the victors all the same.

Dear Captain Reedy,

I hope this note finds you and your family well. I was glad to hear in your last letter that you had married and had welcomed a son to the world. I think back to our campaigns together, I, young infantry officer, and you, a new military aide, attempting to keep up with our commander's various missives. I was glad to claim you as my own aide, and to benefit from your facility that I lacked with logistics and papers.

I have need for you once more. As you may have heard, the Duke has made me a Voice of the House, and so I am now up to my neck in papers once more, to say nothing of doing research and looking into matters that I would have never thought imaginable when I was in the Telmarch. And so I am directing you, as your Voice, to pack your things and come to Arx and help me keep on top of it all.

Your first assignment: Draft your transfer orders and requisition the necessary funds and resources for the move. Gild grant safe travel to you and yours until you arrive at the Tower.

Yours in service to the Telmarch,

Lord Corban Telmar
Voice of Telmar
"Fear no enemy."

I'd like to shout it from the rooftops! I sent the Faith my assistant, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, and he came back a changed man! He has learned so much from them, and for that, I will be eternally grateful.
Archlector Aureth is a genius.

No regrets!

I mean, maybe more water next time. I'm definitely glad I did not try to do any more work last night.

This will mark my first journal entry written while in Arx. I have just arrived a few days ago, along with my liege lord, after a rather long trip around Arvum. The voyage was quite exciting, as we were able to make port in many fine Lycene cities along the way. The nobility there seems to live a life that I could rather enjoy - but then, would I want to live in a world where more people were like me? Where the rulers were more like me?

Almost surely not.

Upon arriving to Arx, I first presented myself to the Physicians Guild. Lady Eirene Malvici is a thing of beauty, both by appearance and temperament. At least, as far as bosses, coworkers, and physicians go. The sweet, dainty, and kind-hearted never last long. Not in this field. I also received a letter from the Mother Mercy Princess Sophie Valardin, with my induction into the guild, so I believe I've leave to call myself "doctor" within Arx. A blessing, that, as practicing without the support of the local guild is always a little difficult.

As for the rest of Arx: There are bars, and pubs, and taverns, and a lovely gambling house. The city is impossibly large, and I'm sure I'll end up lost more than occasionally. I've also noticed there is no dearth of beautiful people, men and women, glad in silk and gold. Is this normal? Is it simple fact that every beautiful woman left Westrock and came here?

Is there a god devoted to temperance? I should consult a seraph...

Just goats? The constant talk of animals is irritating to me.

I have my first hangover in quite a long time. How much did I /drink/ last night?

I don't even remember anything clearly after a certain point, except for the nagging sense I might've actually sent a few messengers. Depending on what those were, today might be interesting...

It is done. I've managed to schedule the concert House Igniseri will be hosting on a night where there are no other events. Lucita will be working on finding entertainment. If you are an entertainer and reading this, please feel free to reach out to my cousin. Everyone else - consider yourself invited, and feel free to bring a picnic basket for yourselves. We'll be serving stuffed olives and debuting yet more of our wines.

Houses with other wares they are known for are welcome to contact House Igniseri to potentially present them at the concert.

Now, to find the things we need to provide enough seating for everyone. And, perhaps, prettify our atrium just a bit more. One's work is never done.

Speaks volumes of me when I'd much rather be facing death in a frozen icy north where spring has no meaning than read ONE MORE GOAT-FUCKING JOURNAL ABOUT GOATS.

You should have a perch (pretty much a saddle) made for him to rest upon and gaze out over all that he surveys and disdains. All the better to judge us from.

Plus, it is safer for his wings that way too. (We all know how insufferable he would be if we were to break any of his perfect feathers.) And he can come and go as he may, all the better to Vex us.

You fill me with a sense of glee, dear Princess Alis. Sometimes, when I find myself blue, I think of something you said and I find myself smiling.

I will see if one of the Keaton leatherworkers might come up with something clever.

I have had the most spectacular last few days! The Spring Soiree was breathtaking, the Greenmarchers have a simply incredible Lodge and grounds and Lady Monique and Lord Corban turned it into a delight. I was so sad that I could not participate in the dancing or the games, but just being there lifted my spirits immensely. And the prizes! I am still struck with the fact that Kael won a dragonweep ring, and more so that the man offered it to me. I am willing to claim that I very well may have the grandest, most generous husband ever. (This is not a challenge, but in my eyes Kael is... everything, to me.)

I have been an avid admirer of the parties thrown by Princess Consort Alarissa and Lady Monique, and channeling them, I think I managed to throw a successful fete of my own! Kael's birthday was a large affair, certainly the largest party I've thrown thus far. And the goats appear to be quite popular! I myself have a little terror named Marigold. There are days when I consider a meal of mutton, especially when the little thing has gotten into my sewing. But her face is too charming and she does make me laugh everyday. Plus, she's nearly old enough to start milking and goat cheese is my favorite.

I have to admit though. I'm a little worried about my dear High Lord. Timmons is an uncanny thing and I can't say I liked the way he kept looking at Prince Edain. I am grateful that Princess Caelis has Karri to keep watch over the pair of them.

That is silly, I suppose. What real harm could one tiny goat do?

A thought has just occurred to me, and I feel I must solicit opinions.

Timmons the Malicious Pygmy Goat, and Vex the Vexatious Pygmy Owl. I fear that if the two are ever in the same room, the manor may in fact implode from the sheer intensity of dual glares. But... BUT, it may just be worth it. I wonder if there is a leatherworker skilled enough to make a special satchel of sorts that Vex could sit in, and be toted around by Timmons.

Together, they could glare at everyone in Arx. It would be a thing of terror and beauty. But mostly terror.

We did indeed have a marvelous time at the Spring Soiree, and I would not have been there with anyone else. Though I'll admit my tolerance for parties is much lower than I estimated before, this was an excellent choice for my limited willingness to go.

I confess that I am somewhat disappointed to have missed an opportunity to add a goat to our household catalog of animals, but Nara has a touch of fever and I want to stay with her. I hope those who attended the forum can forgive my absence; I understand that Princess Tikva did a marvelous job leading things. Some of the feedback has already come back to me, and I will be taking some action and making some changes.

While I was fortunate enough to have snagged one of the more tamed goats within the corral at the Keatons natality affair, I am glad to say - Princess Eleyna, I know you look to my whites now and then - that it was promptly delivered to one who had recent married off his daughter and looked a little despondent over the quietness in his residence.

A goat, filled with ennui, I believe, would do just the trick and remind him that he is not alone.

Though, I admit, I give it likely 2 weeks before there is roast goat on his table. Princess Eleyna, make sure to have the recipe sent to the Grimhall's. The duke shall need it.

Our chef at the Velenosa Estate has a wonderful recipe for roasted goat in a spicy sauce for when you all realize that you are keeping dinner as a pet.
