Relationship Note on Alistair

What a curious man! Luckily I've never really made the acquaintance of the Inquisition before but I've definitely met High Inquisitor Alistair before when he came to my shop to investigate a string of theft in the neighborhood. I never did find out who stole from me and he mentioned they never found a culprit. Bigger fish to fry and all that. At least he's honest.

This has been an encouraging week. I had the opportunity to stab a multitude of things.

Seven men, three dogs. All but one dead. It's like a flashback to some years ago, when I pursued another through the Dockyards, to little avail. Only to be taunted by someone who knows more about me than I do.

There will be answers.

"He loves me, he loves me not."

I saw a young woman today sitting in the Grove with a flower in her hand, pulling off a petal and saying, "he loves me," then another petal before, "he loves me not. So on, and so forth until she plucked the last petal, frowning as she sighed, "he loves me not." Is this supposed to be some fortune telling measure? If so, I think she was doing it wrong, because she picked another flower and started again. "He loves me. He loves me not."

What is this nonsense? You can clearly see how many petals a flower has, so logic states, if you want it to end on "he loves me," start with the right phrase to lead you there....

FURTHERMORE.... Stop wasting flowers for this silliness. If you really want to know.... just ask him.

Kids these days....

A beautifully drawing of a rock in the middle of the water with the water in the background, its a close up drawing and on the rock alone sits a signet ring that of house Kennex.

Does it also take a special kind of cunning to think that they're too stupid to read?

Relationship Note on Mae

To be fair to Gibson, you did marry a Grayhope.

A particularly clever and resourceful and helpful Grayhope to be sure, but still.

Also, just so that there's a record of it in writing, congratulations to Mae and Magpie, and may they have many long and happy years together.

I love rest. I don't love parties. All my traveling and adventures and I still find I would prefer an afternoon spent reading as I used to and watching my family and the house staff go by in the courtyard, or out at sea. Attending parties is just so daunting and there is still ever so much to do and learn. I'll have to hope naps become the recreation of choice at parties in the future. Lounging and soaking up the last bit of sun before winter returns to us sounds glorious.

May your hopes find safe harbors.

Delilah has contended that I spend too much time in the manor. I am inclined to agree.

Next week, I'll be venturing outside of the city... and I'll be wishing I was back in the manor, probably.

I generally don't like writing when I have two good arms. Still, there's good in writing things down they say and here I am.

Somebody started a fire while I was taking my shopping home. Some people got hurt, some kids too. I figured out a way to help move more water faster. I'm convinced the city could do with more aqueducts.

A little door maybe, like a gate, and my temporary tough and there you go, faster fire dousing.

Some recent things I crossed off my bucket list:

* Got to be a passenger on the High Lord of Thrax's ship.
* Got to spend time in an Inquisition cell. (They're actually nicer than the Iron Guard's cells, in case anyone was wondering)
* Funeral for a spider a stepped on by the Archlector of Death, complete with pyre.

Good times. Good times.

I had an idea...
I talked with Lady Valencia about it and she seemed to like it.

I need to find out who owns the big gardens in the compact, and get in touch with people of the big houses that have a garden...

So... Well, if anyone from a big house with a garden reads this, by any chance... Could you tell me who to address to talk about it?

Might need to improve my skills with my hammer to deal with stupid people. Henrik really does need a pay raise. He's trained me, like I am a dog, to show /some/ restraint on what I say to people.

Map making is made all the more confusing by trying to figure out the scale of maps done my people with no grasp of the concept. I have a map with landmarks on it I know to be different distances, but the author thought to evenly space them across the page. Because then they could draw the trees bigger and more evenly, maybe? Annoying, really. Then there is this picture of a turtle. Just randomly a turtle. Placed like it were another landmark.

'Oh, you want to get to Bastion? Just a left at the turtle. You'll know it when you see it!

What started as an expedition on a single ship will now be several. What started as just poking around will now be something larger scale. What started as a simple thing is now terrifying.

I am either very bad at planning or secretly sabotaging myself with success.
