I think "creepy oleaginous obsequiousness" is now my favorite insult.

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.

The Gilded Page will open some time in the next week, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I'd hoped to find a few more local authors to showcase their writing, but I think that will come in time. The library is stocked, and the knowledge is ready to be shared.

I think I'll write a flower or fauna book next. Not about the boring, mundane plantlife, mind you, but the colorful eccentric kinds which may be capable of killing you!

The fun plants.

I've tried this meditation thing. Someone told me "think on one word" and "focus on that word". And then told me that "sword" is probably not a good word to focus on. But water and sand seems so boring.

Relationship Note on Aiden

We may have had out fights, and our arguments, but I know that my brother is always there to remind me when it is time to rest. To put down my blades, and my training tools, and take a breath.

Relationship Note on Tikva

The other day my wife told me that she had peed thirteen times, and that she wasn't going to again because of it being that auspicious number. When I tried to reason with her well... Scholar, let me tell you. It is not a good idea to argue with a pregnant woman about relieving herself. That being said, foot rubs are a great way to get back into your wife's good graces, I've come to learn.

Relationship Note on Ida

Oh Ida, you make me smile! No discouragement necessary. The kindness of strangers and new friends is all it was, over drinks in a playful atmosphere. That people care so much to repel loneliness from the lives of them they've just met says much about them.

You and I, by the way, need to have dinner soon.

As we prepare in these trying times, it is important to understand our fidelities to our brothers and sisters. Our greatest virtues are found in our acts of unity -- not unwaveringly, but, in the frailties of those bonds.

That we can be both fervent in our disagreements and, be willing to set such things aside when time might come allows us to take the best of each other.

We must pray, though, not to fall eagerly to malice, where none is intended.

And we must remember, that even virtuous natures may become less so when, in their expression, they become matters of excess.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I promise never to attempt to find you a 'suitable mate' ever. Besides, as far as best platonic wives go, you can hardly do better than me! Ha! But, truly, let me know if I need to quietly discourage anyone in particular dearest friend. I'll be gentle about it.

I become adamant about my lack of interest in marriage, and the offers to 'help find a suitable mate' start to pick up.

I have an entire Guild to take care of, and who take are of me. I'm perfectly fine, I promise.

....no, scholar, I didn't mean like -that-...!

Stop laughing!

I must publicly commend House Saik for their efforts in preparing for the Setarco ground campaign in defense. Baron Estaban, Baroness Lucita, Lord Marcos and Dame Loela of their service are all pitching in to the battle plan and special missions full throttle.

A credit to their lieges, the Lyceum and the Compact.

Spring has sprung! Change is in the air and the birds return, as well as the plants begin to awaken in the Botanical Gardens!

I think it might be time to try to find a husband now. And maybe write some poetry and song and be inspired. Oh, and to study of course!

Blessed Roran was kind enough to let me help host First Bloom. It had been a long time, far too long, since I left the city walls purely to interact with nature, the forest that was for a time my happiest home. I wondered if the cottage was still standing; if any of my things or Petrae's still remained there. Our gardens and herb beds are no doubt overgrown, being taken back by the more traditional flora.

It makes sense that Petrae, a devoted of Lagoma, brought about all of the changes in my life. And they have all been difficult, painful. When she was killed it damned near killed me too. Sometimes I think it still might. But it all brought me to the place I am now, which...well, it's better than the place I was headed.

I'm not sure where I was going with this except I still miss her more than I can possibly say.

Archlector Roran did well honoring Our Lady of Change in todays' First Bloom rite to mark the passing of the season from Winter into Spring.

Let us not forget that while this celebration marks the temporal changing of seasons, Lagoma - our goddess of change - represents growth and change for the better.

Let not the meaning of First Bloom be confined to simple weather. Take heed: the seed of change can root in our minds and hearts on any given day.

Honor the goddess by seeking to improve your lot and being active in accomplishing the betterment you would like to see in your lives and world.

Lagoma is an ever active goddess and she is honored by participation - not idle prayer - in the world around you that would bring a brighter future.

We. Will. Not. Be. Quenched. This is the mantra that I have been repeating over and over as I try to stay away a darkness that threatens to consume me. I can only hope that spending time in the temple of the Thirteenth will help me find some semblance of balance again, to tame the flame that burns within me, not so much to let it smolder and die, but to allow the spark to remain until such a time as there is reason to remind others why the Igniseri are called the Flames, and why messing with our family might just get you burned.

Relationship Note on Thorley

The First Blossom Festival was beautiful and I was lucky enough to go with Thorley. Despite the things to come I decided to take a planter with me. When I am away with the Blades I know my brother will tend it for me. I do love green growing things. So it is likely no surprise that a tree was planted as well.

In good company Thorley and I planted an oak sapling. He gave it an old sea blessing of shells and water. For my own part I asked the spirits to bless the tree. And let it grow tall and strong and it's roots deep and thick. I plan to visit it again as it grows. Perhaps so I do not lose it I will leave a market of some kind. The wood is still far too soft and young for marking.

The festival brought with it mirth and, for me, great surprise in numerous ways. I met the King and was introduced even. To be honest I'm pretty sure I could have made a tomato jealous when I looked up and saw him there. For all my soldier training I am no lady or skilled in etiquette. But I think I deported myself properly before his Majesty.

I look forward to see our planting grow.

Relationship Note on Violet

Went to the bloom festival with Violet last night.

We planted a tree - I gave it some of the old blessings from home.

A seashell - May it grow strong and stand against the storm.

A shrimp's shell - May it grow tall and unwavering in the wind.

A tortoise shell - May the shipwright find it when it is ready and know that it will be a steady keel.

Mangata's Blessed Water - May Mangata bring it further life and strength to serve on her waves.

I've been meeting some exciting people, this week. Striking a friendship with some masters of their trade and just getting to know others is a welcome distraction from thinking about the war. At this point I just want to get through it.
