I feel close to the gods every day of my life. I do not always feel close to people.

Today, less so. I thank the gods for those who not only listen, but also understand.

A wondrous event at Elegant Impressions! A gorgeous steelsilk gown that gleamed like starlight was up for auction by the ever talented Mistress Talia and, to my delight, it happened to be a sister gown to my moonlight dress that I'm so terribly fond of. My sadness that I do not have the sunlight one, but I'm quite happy with two of these stunning outfits in my wardrobe now. I also commend Her Highness, Princess Alarissa Thrax for her bid against me, it was a very close battle. My purse will hurt a little, surely, but looking at this dress in the mirror more than soothes the sting. Now to find the perfect accessory to match!

I didn't see it, but I heard a rumor that a flock of geese tumbled out of the sky dead as dead can be. How dreadful. I hope no one was injured by an unexpected goose while carrying on with their business.

Relationship Note on Hamish

I am glad to welcome Archlector Hamish to his new role as Voice of the Queen of Endings. He comes very highly recommended.

I couldn't find my ring. I was not at my best, and more than a few servants tried their best to help me find it. Last I remembered my signet ring and my wedding ring had been on my vanity since i had woken up after I had lost my arm. Its still hard to say that.

I didn't think that a simple thing like where were the rings would have set me manic looking for them. Had someone come in and taken them? The bed, the vanity, jewelry everywhere and perfume was spilled. I thought perhaps that the demon had come in and swept them off with her tail, or the children had played with them. I tore apart dresses looking through pockets and through the shelves, displacing all the dragons and in tears about where the rings were.

Maxene had them. She had placed them in a drawer in my wardrobe, so that they wouldn't get lost until I decided what to do. She forgot to tell me that she had done this. Rings. Rings set me off. I ended up sitting in the atrium for hours, trying to calm myself. I put the wedding ring in the lost alcove. Beside my brothers portrait. It's not like I can just leave the arm there. Things lost and gone and I am having trouble. I am trying, but I am having trouble and the pain does little to help me forget that there is nothing there anymore. Nor Astrid with her questions about what has happened.

Pellinor has to ride with me on the horse till I re-learrn how to ride. Petal at least, has gone above and beyond in adapting styles and making gowns that I can feel some sense of comfort in when out. I have been going out. Forcing myself to at least. I don't linger.

Nothing is the same.

No matter how much I wish it were so.

A curious phrase.

'There isn't anything new in the world except to those who are new to the world.'

I wonder if there is truth to it, or if it is just hyperbole. Either way it made me think about things from a new direction, so I'm sharing it in the hopes someone else will find it more useful than droll.

Relationship Note on Miranda

I hope you are soon able to find someone to help organize your wedding plans. I well know what a headache it can be and am sorry the help to which I referred you to with confidence they would do a good job failed to respond. Perhaps they are just too busy with other political projects at the moment.

Why is there so much talk of offering something that wasn't requested, to parties that don't even require said thing, and even if it were given would accomplish very little? Why fret and cluck like it's even an idea with serious merit to begin with?

No, let's just not.

Let's straighten our necks, steel our spines and carry on with a bit of courage and dignity. The ones who knuckle under and capitulate so readily will not be remembered fondly, not by friend and not by foe. There are no statues honoring a Princess Craven the Appeaser or a Lord Meek the Surrenderer in the Hall of Heroes.

Be brave.

Relationship Note on Arik

I came in third in a beard contest.
Perhaps not something to share with a future potential match.

The Most Magnificent Beards & Spectacular Brews evening was the most enjoyable and good humored event I've attended in a while. And there was also a cute beaver there. My praises to the go to the hosts and judges, Lord Arik, Baroness Acantha, Dame Morrighan and Baroness Violet, as well as all the contestants - men and women alike.

Now I want a beaver.

To have played before others, and organised other Bards to come forth, was something of the utmost pleasure to me.

While in Arx the inspiration can often be a challenge as the city seems to grip and reach around my music. Claiming it.

Relationship Note on Elisha

Eli's quickly becoming one of my favorite people in Arx. He's absolutely mad at times, but his honesty is a breath of fresh air. Has a way of drawing me out of myself a little bit, and ... after so long walkin' around with my chin out and my chest puffed up, it's good to just be able to breathe and braid some hair.

Okay, so he has some talk that's a bit dodgy, but you have to be pretty stodgy and set in your ways to see it as some kind of a threat.

His poems are lovely.

It is a commonly held truth that Aurumadin is imaginary, very much like the metaphorical relation to our belligerent guest, and yet I find hope in such potent works of imagination - even if others are quick to dismiss them. I don't think there need be such a focus on embassies so much as finding allies or other solutions to deal with the rude guest who threatens our family. If the leaders of our Faith are confident that beseeching our gods will grant us protection or weapons great enough to contend with a group whose might is beyond contestation, then it goes without saying that I place my faith and absolute trust in them.

I admire the princess's courage in addressing the crisis we currently face. If embassies are not the answer, I hope that we may continue to search for the best solutions, such as those offered by the Radiant Whisper.

As such, I dismissed Brenlin for the night.

I love nothing more than seeing my fellow people making merry. It's easy to forget merriment exists in the deluge of serious business, deep thoughts in the whites, and diplomatic crises across the realm.

So it pleases me to no end that I can walk into the Queensrest, the Ambassador Salon or any public house in the city and find some group, however small, reminding the other patrons - and the world at large - that there is still fun to be had.

This spring we'll finalize the work on the College of Agriculture. It's been years in the making and suddenly I won't have that sitting on my plate anymore. It's a strange feeling, it makes me feel a little anxious. I suppose we'll just have to go full force into the next big project. I've thought about a large center for the performing arts. Not another educational endevour, simply a place of entertainment. Center for Performing Arts at Artshall? Artshall something something. I'll need to think this one through some more.

"We're taking the war to the Sylv'alfar. This is going to be a bloody, messy war that hurts us right down to our souls, but it's the only way to save the people we are sworn to protect. Gather your core unit quickly, as many as you can trust as quickly as you can. We have a lot of work ahead of us. I'm instituting a War Council beginning next week. Houses can send a representative or I will watch as they fall, and those more willing to work for the good of all can rise in their place." - Queen Alarice.

It's a quote from my own research. I'd never thought to put it in my whites before and I can't say what prompted it now. It's not necessarily applicable to anything in particular. But I just thought it was interesting enough to share. Alarice was a remarkable Queen, willing to do what had to be done. And if you weren't willing to work with her, she'd work with someone who was.
