Finally arrived in the city.

Everything's so cramped... and smells... and loud.

I got a medal for all the work I did during the siege, too bad it did not come with a raise.

Relationship Note on Joslyn

While not a noblewoman, Miss Joslyn Manicelli acts as an impeccable representative for her Duchess and House. She also has a wonderful sense of aesthetics and a very Lycene manner of being. I realise that may sound as a back-handed compliment from an Oathlander, but I mean it in the most positive of ways.

She also asked me out to dinner and drinks.

I think that's a first.

I have arrived and mostly settled in Arx. For now, I've got a room in an inn called "The Sleepless Knights". The pun amuses. And, as I told his grace, the beds are not -that- bad.

It is not my first time in Arx, of course. I am sure if I go looking, I can find my last set of journals, from when I visited as a squire, spending a few months here. I'm sure I was even more wide-eyed with wonder than I am now.

The damage after the siege is still visible. The wound in the wall could be seen from the edge of the forest.

For some reason, it made me think of my father. His wounds weren't healing right. And during the trip home, they festered. And he died.

I will add my efforts to ensure that Arx rises stronger from her wounds.

Relationship Note on Alexis

So, I met somebody new. She's a recently knighted Valardin Knight. She's also probably the cutest woman I've ever laid eyes on, and yet also strong, there's no doubting her prowess. I haven't been able to stop thinking about her, and I cannot wait until we finally have our dinner. Beautiful, charming and strong... I didn't even know they made women like her.

Fight like fucking wild cats in the city and end up losing the most. It's a damn shame what's become of the Thraxian ward in the aftermath of the siege. Our people have built warships taller than the fucking clouds, it's time we put that to use rebuilding the lives of our people. I'm not going to be caught with my britches around my ankles again.

We'll come back stronger.

Well that's jus' silly. Who wants their war-weiner to stay all the time?

It needs to go and come as it chooses.

The medal ceremony was quite special. Edain has a way with words.
Alis and Marian did our family proud up there and everyone who
received their awards earned them ten times over. I hope that in
time, I too can distinguish myself. Though I am less concerned
about that than my sweet cousin's fainting spells. I was worried
she might faint during the ceremony. Sasha! Stop the all nighters!

I met the man on the ramparts, as well as at the Solace Square. I think he is honourable and respectful. He has been through a lot, and I hope things go well for him.

You don't sound like you suck. We'll drink sometime. You're buyin' though, for that limerick.

I hate to complain or to scarper,
About liquor it’s rare that I harp(er).
But in a fleet blink,
I'll down any drink.
With zeal, enthusiasm, and ardor.

7/13/1006 AR, it's afternoon. Still working on the salaries as well as training for the Iron Guard. What with recent news coming to the city, it seems that our work is nowhere near over. I had hoped we would have more time to recover before anything else happened. I'm not sure what is going on, but we must be ready for it at all costs. I'm wondering if the Crown is going to put restrictions on travel near the Forest. Unfortunately, there are no rumors of survival, which means we know little to nothing. I'm going to train these Guardsmen as best I can, teach them what I know about not just combat, but survival. It's our duty to protect.

Steadfast has somehow managed to drool all over half of my notes on the prospective new trade routes west. I can't really hold it against him, though, as it was my fault for falling asleep and dropping them on the floor.

The poor pup looked so dismayed, too, with them stuck to his fur like that. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

Relationship Note on Mathias

When the knight of the Abyss stalked the city during the siege, Mathias Coaldust was there for the survivors. He sat with me while I spoke of my own pain and fears. He sat with the Grandmaster while he recovered. He reached out to the others. He wanted to help. He wanted to heal. It hurt him, I think, that he couldn't do more, though he did everything he could and beyond, for those of us who lived.

I was supposed to meet with him, later this week, to sit down with my books and his smile, and help him become more comfortable with letters. I wish I had set other duties aside, and met with him first. I wish I'd made the time to speak with him, before he went out to do his duty. I wish I could have given back to him what he gave to me.

He was a Champion of Solace, a servant of Gild, and I hope his soul is safe in Death's keeping. May he walk in the light in other lifetimes.
