The Masquerade of Mirrors was an interesting -- and unsettling -- experience, for one who's never attended it before. Still, I suppose I can see some of the attraction; setting yourself on-edge, making yourself just a bit uneasy, gets the blood flowing. I had a lovely conversation or two with people who I genuinely have no idea who they were.

And the mythology around the eclipse itself certainly puts you in a reflective state, no pun intended, on yourself and your place in the world. I do often feel like I don't understand Tehom's worship sufficiently, in some manner, and I think the Masquerade made me consider that more deeply. I don't confront my inner darkness all that often, and perhaps... I don't know, is that a failing on my part?

Still, I won't lie, I'm glad to return to my rather more Vellichorian existence now that it's done.

Relationship Note on Isabetta

It's good to have Isabetta here. She's still the same obnoxious troublemaker she was when we were children and I am sincerely delighted that she hasn't changed.

With everything else that's different now, having her smirk at me and not take me at all seriously feels like a touchstone in a rapidly shifting world.

The distraction. Though I'm really grateful I was the one to get him back into full armor.

Relationship Note on Esoka

Dame Esoka was another tutor this week. We met outside for a spirited run and I realized quickly I am not a runner! Two miles twice a day; that is what she recommends. I'm not a lazy gal, but I'm not sure how I'll be able to accomplish hat goal without passing out first.

So far the morning run has been invigorating. I mean it's shit to get up earlier than usual but once I'm out there and hit a stride, it feels great. The evening run flat out sucks. There is no sugar coating that.

After our run, she made me climb a tree. I thought I might die. It's been years since I've climbed trees but when we reached a sturdy bough and had a moment to talk and look out onto the world from way up high, it put so many things in perspective for me.

I look forward to more training exercises with Dame Esoka in the future.

Relationship Note on Marian

Princess Marian was kind enough to take me under her tutelage. She is focused and determined when it comes to wielding a sword and I greatly admire her for years of dedication she's given to her skills. I'd like to continue training with her if she'll have me and I promise no amount of distraction will pry my eyes off my goal.

I'm going to have to start praying for willpower.

Relationship Note on Isabetta

My wits will require sharpening to keep up with this one and my brother when they get together. When a comment from one is parried, the other slides in an equally teasing or shocking remark from the side, all in good fun. Mostly. Wonder who the lucky artist will be to enjoy receiving their commissions.

It is comforting that Father Orazio and Blessed Aleksei met with the Seraph of Sanctum, and looked into building bridges within the Faith. People see a monolith, but the Faith is a culture like any Fealty. We have our disagreements, we have our debates, we are indeed a Faith made of Parishes, each diverse and different to each other in some way, small or large. I do not pretend that recent changes came easy, nor that I necessarily agree that the pace of change was right, but in reaching out to the Seraph of Sanctum - who holds great sway amongst the Oathlanders and thus in the Godsworn Knights of the Templars and the Faith Militant - Father Orazio and Blessed Aleksei once again prove their wisdom, and why they make these decisions and I simply serve.

I shall pray that this understanding continues and the debates on theology might continue. In the meantime, it allows the Faith Militant to consider more relevant threats - our pilgrims and tithe trains still face predation from the Abandoned, there are still secular forces who would erode our responsibilities, and there are still threats greater than any power, secular or religious. Thankfully I have faith in my brothers and sisters, in our Grandmaster and in our Archlector, in all our archlectors and legates, and of course in the Most Holy. Even perhaps faith in our little siblings in the Knights of Solace.

There are some things you only get the pleasure of experiencing once in a lifetime. One of those things is riding an elk with a blacksmith into 2 to 48 odds. Others would include rushing through a field on horseback while you're attacked by the largest horde of wasps the world has ever seen. Eating that last piece of cake, knowing that you shall regret it come the morning.

Sometimes you simply must do, rather than think. Even if it risks everything. You'll only get the one try.

Except for the cake, I'm sure many struggle with that daily.

The Crow Soup Kitchen is officially open!

Attached to the Murder of Crows Inn, the Crow Soup Kitchen will offer one free bowl of soup to any citizen of the Compact in need. The kitchen is ran by Mae Grayhope, with the support of the Grayhope and Culler families.

Any that wish to donate to keeping the Crow Soup Kitchen running should contact Mae Grayhope. Likewise, any that wish to volunteer are encouraged to speak to Mae before arriving (especially if noble!) and keep watch for volunteer days.

Due to the very generous donations of many, the Crow Soup Kitchen has enough funding to run for two full years.

I, and everyone that no longer needs to feel the pangs of hunger or make terrible choices rather than see their children go hungry, would like to thank all those that donated:

* The Grayhope and Culler families, who fight so hard for those in the Lowers.
* Archlector Aleksei and Legate Orazio for the initial funds to feed the Crownsworn and Godsworn.
* Prince Victus and Princess Alarissa and all of House Thrax and their vassals.
* Grand Duchess Eleyna and all of House Velenosa and their vassals.
* Princess Donella, Princess Marian, Lady Khanne, Mistress Valery, and all of House Redrain and their vassals.
* Princess Isabeau and all of House Valardin and their vassals.
* Princess Tikva and Princess Reese, as well as the other High Houses, for ensuring those in Grayson fealty do not go hungry.
* Marquessa Samantha and Prince Rook, for securing crown funding to keep the Soup Kitchen operations running strong.
* Dame Thena and the Knights of Solace, for assisting those in need in finding their way to the Crow Soup Kitchen.

For all those that have volunteered to help, or who still plan to donate, thank you!

I will be announcing volunteer days soon. The Murder of Crows will also be hosting a charity darts and drinking contest in the near future.

My most heartfelt congratulations to the Baron of Whitefrost for his engagement. He could not have done better than to secure Lady Carita Darkwater for his Baroness; a woman of style, grace, and wit, who will run his holdfast with all the verve and panache that she applies to all other areas of life. May they partner each other well, by the grace of Limerance.

Relationship Note on Carita

When I heard about the engagement, I was quite excited -- in fact I might use the word delighted. I think that Lady Carita, because she is a member of the peerage of that there is no doubt, and the Baron Stormbreak are complimentary to one another. Her composure and temperament tames the passions of the Storm and his tenacity and way with coin would be enviable traits if I wasn't busy celebrating them. May our Lady of Change bring an easy transition to this exciting new phase of their lives.

With that being said, whatever these two respectable members of the court choose to engage in is their divine right in the freedom of choice. These were simply my words in observation and my heartfelt personal opinion on the matter, meager as it may be.

I am glad Archscholar Bianca has returned to Arx. I'm also thankful for my new position as a Senior Scholar. I hope that I'll be able to serve the Discipleship well. All that said, my investigations have recently been towards more historical and common matters of Arx. I'm hoping that we'll be able to learn interesting facts about history that people would like to know. (I know it's not some amazing ancient knowledge, but hopefully some people find it of some interest!)

The meeting with the Merchants went well enough. I'm glad we could come together and talk about things, as it really assists with getting the economy together all-in-all.
