I daresay there are many very, very capable Crafters in this city that would charge 50,000 silver, or more! and I would support that decision. I would expect that, if it were a noble that was the Crafter, that they donate their funding to -charity- after said lesson, as would be prudent, but teaching a skill that you've spent your life tempering and perfecting is an honor both for the teacher and the student. Sometimes, the only way to appreciate that honor is to put a price tag on it.
The more I think about it, the more complicated it can be. Such as apprentices. We take on apprentices, children, who learn our trade and perfect it to their own drive and inspiration. They become journeymen, and then Masters in their own right. During that time, they've 'paid' for our guidance with labor and respect, years spent working in our shops for the honor of learning from us. I remember feeling -insanely- humbled that Master Wolbrand kept me on. He didn't have to teach me anything, he could have spent his focus on someone else, or foisted me off on a lesser jeweler, but for whatever reason he kept me. As an adult and a masterclass jeweler, I understand that the knowledge he gave me was literally priceless. There's no way I could have repaid him, ever, for the time and attention and the guidance he gave me.
Eh, I'm rambling at this point. Perhaps I've lost the thread. Just ... thoughts to put down. Perhaps I'll review them later. Either way-

I met Sir Austen Ferron officially today. Manly, stalwart, respectful, completely composed. Good taste in jewelry. As stiff as old bark but not as brittle. Not at all flustered and completely adaptable to changing situations. Also, very funny.

If that bothers you, consider this; every man, woman, and child in that village, every life, has no legal worth to begin with. Technically they're all trespassing on the king's land, so if they all die it just makes room for Compact citizens to move into their homes and take over their fields and sleep in their beds when the danger has passed. Compact children can even play with their abandoned toys.

As I read the journals, I am assured, once again, that the world of Arx is just as fussy and full of itself as always. I could offer a five-page essay on why so much of what is said is just complicating pretty simple issues, but it would just get lost in the sea of prissy and self-important babble. Suffice to say, you all need to find hobbies. Well, not all. Some are pretty amusing.

Worry not, Squire Jonathan, the whiskey shall flow this evening. Cider and milk as well (This is a proper Oathlands fete afterall!)
I have been working feverishly (Actually it has been Marie, she kicked me out of the kitchen after only a few hours) to ensure this party is as festive as it should be. I have hired musicians, the Wyrmguard chocolate cake is *stunning* and I really hope this gathering will do you both the honor you deserve. I have decided against a goat-themed game for the evening, because the wedded pair should be the focus rather than some barnyard shenanigans. (Shenanigans, Nanny, Nanny goat, get it? I AM funny!)
That being said I should have a few games up my sleeve to keep the guest entertained.
