Some of my favorite times since leaving Farhaven for Arx is when family ends up gathered in the dining room for just an unexpected snack or meal. Not an official meeting or ordained dinner, but just a small supper of sorts where we catch up on the smaller things, the personal doings; a brief respite from our various duties to just be family.

When Gaius was last in town he pointedly asked me how the other nobles treated us, and I could honestly say that the ones I've met have been perfectly nice. He seemed surprised and he had good reason to be so.
As more time has gone by and I have dipped my toes more pots and circles I HAVE come across the kind of distaste that Gaius was worried about. It's more in sideline looks, a general tone of dismissal, but nothing outright rude. I think most of those with strong feelings about my elevation also have strong feelings about being polite.
Really, I can't blame them for their looks and tones. I haven't done a single thing to deserve my elevation. Silas, yes. Me? I'm just riding on his coat-tails. Maybe someday I'll do something worth this elevation. SOMEDAY.
For now though, I'm happy to be able to do little things to help Hawkhold where I can. I am sure my parents laugh as I'm FINALLY putting to good use all those lessons that I dodged as a kid about trade agreements and how best to handle money. It all has a PURPOSE now though and that makes all the difference.

Since arriving in the city I have befriended a few people and had meetings with them. One of these individuals that sticks with me I met at the bonfire that was held by Prince Darren. He surprised me recently with a gift that was unexpected and it made me realize that I wish to spend more time with him. Right now I'm working on my own surprise gift for him. I hope that he likes it.

Caspian bought me a dress and slippers. They are beautiful! I think I can wear them in late Spring and most of Summer. He's been trying to spoil me since I arrived and I want to buy him things as well! Hopefully I will be able to repay the love my brother has shown so many times over.

I'm so exicted for the duels I got coming up. It's been a while since I fought in a duel. People seem to only hire me for serious ones lately, which is kinda funny because I'm not at all a serious person! Oh well, just means they respect my skill!

Tiny Tom took off to try to hunt down Highlord Victus' cat, best as I can tell. I caught her before she could actually make it to The Maw. This is getting really frustrating to deal with, I hope she gets over whatever rivalry the two have going on soon.

Time does seem to conspire against us, but I am glad for the missives as well as chances to make a little something. Belladonna was my sister-in-law. More than that she was a mentor and a friend as I took on the mantle my sister left me.
Then Cassius was slain, and she became bitter. She lashed out at me in her journal once and I let it go. Times were troubling. This would pass, and we'd be as we were again.
Now, she has lashed out similarly at my cousin and I am left dumbstruck. How could someone I thought I knew, that I trusted, change so much? The Belladonna I knew would never have acted like this.
