I've let something terrible happen.

I've gotten complacent with my choice of drinking venues - yes, yes, I'm quite well known at The Hollow. You can hardly go a week without me showing up at the Murder, a familiar face in the mornings at Bold Espressions, an occasional at the Trader's Tavern, and on special occasions, I've a habit of showing up at the Hart, but that's the sort of drinking that's typically incidental before taking to the sands for a Sip and Spar.

I've gotten complacent.

When you drink at the same places, you bump shoulders with the same people. When you bump shoulders with the same people, you stop seeing new faces. Stop hearing different ideas. Stop finding those you'd share a beer with. Stop finding those you'd share a brawl with.

How very shameful of me. Be seeing more of you, taverns and bars of Arx.

Journal

Belinha was a tall and captivating woman. She had those sort of eyes that let you know she saw your soul for what it was. And you could say anything to her, in any way you cared to deliver it, no matter how convincingly, and she would still seem to know who you were.

She was a Suspire and I saw her around often. She wasn't the most beautiful but she was the most confident. Even her charges and her clients seemed rather to be entertaining her rather than the other way to.

I didn't know her name those early days when I would see her pass. I just knew that I had to ask her one question.

I waited every day for a chance to ask that question. She was always surrounded. Always catering to the clientele. Always engaged in tutoring her classes.

8 months I waited. Until one day...

It was an odd day of rain in Setarco when chance should have it she came for shelter 'neath an the overhang of a local market where I had just purchased my week's loaf. She look like she had been crying, but it may have just been the rain. I'm almost certain it was the rain. I stared at her for a good long while, stonied. I couldn't speak. But then she, rather, spoke to me. I'd never been looked at like that before. Never dreamed it, even. Not a seductive look - mind you. Just a look. Given with such ease. A tossed-off glance to me, an orphan lad barely living. A look that made me feel as if I was the only person who ever existed.

I forgot entire what I was going to ask her. Instead I uttered, "How did you do that?"

It was lovely hearing the laughing excitement of the Crafters Guild over the Death Fat Ones Pathfinder Lou talked about being in Brightshore. I wonder what strange animals are out there with hides I've never seen? Don't be shy now, if you've seen something fantastic, write me.

Relationship Note on Bonibel

What a delightful new addition to the shops of the Lowers! She has candles! She has brews! And other skills besides! I will be sure to be back, and everyone else should stop by and see what good Bonibel has in store as well!

Some questions are simultaneously so vast and so specific that finding words to suit them seems impossible. What, then, am I to ask now that I know where to find those with answers?

I think without mirrors I might have missed out some ugly parts about me that I've been working to clear away... And I don't just mean my face.

That's still being worked on. My apologies, Compact.

What an extraordinary event! I was not quite sure if I would have been able to attend but I am so glad I did.

The journey to the Saiklands was rather pleasant and my retinue of guards kept me safe. Once there, I became enraptured by Lady Medeia's gorgeous decor. It felt as if I had traveled to another world, one only I had dared to dream of.

There was dancing and singing and drinking and all sorts of merriment. Marquis Gaspar was my first victim on the dance floor and what an impeccable dancer he is. If I remember correctly, he did not stop dancing the entire night.

There were so many familiar faces and while I wanted to speak to all of them, there was simply not enough time. Oh how I wish I could go back to that night and dance all over again. I very much look forward to the next gala.

Be worthy of those sworn to you, or else you may soon find yourself standing alone, your followers gone or siding with a greater opponent. Loyalty is not something that is simply demanded. It is something that must be built and maintianed, constantly. Not just before you need them to give their lives for your goals.

Just something to keep in mind.

Jayus blessed me with something so magical and beautiful... I have not stopped thinking about it since it happened.

I will never forget her warmth or hearing her laughter in my ear. Thank you, Jayus. Thank you.

Relationship Note on Adrienne

I do not seek out the peerage, but I can't seem to help but find them in this latest trip to the capital. Some have been as expected: loud, flamboyant, a waste of energy. But others have surprised. They seek to do what is right and defy convention in order to further their chances of doing so. Princess Adrienne is a gift to her House. My only hope for the Oathlands is that they received fair recompense in exchange for Pravus taking their greatest treasure.

Any time I get to spend with my cousin-by-marriage is always an unforgettable one. We get each other and often roll off one another's wit. I will have to host more parties just to make sure we get to spend more time together.

There is still time, until there is no more time. But how do you know when the time has run out? When there is no more time.

Now I'm stuck thinking about when my time will run out.

I don't want my time to run out.

All is well. I just need to have a long, hot bath and sleep for a solid week now that I've returned safely to Arx. It will be a very novel and welcome feeling to be both clean and rested. I've almost forgotten how that feels.

There has been little word from Iriscal in some time; from Mother. Even after my letters were sent from the Villa. Though, as I recall, there was a mix-up with Bartolomeo getting them sent in time for the carriages to travel south.

Scholar, I have mind to go myself. I have been told by companions and friends it could be the road is unsafe and taxed with conflict on the horizon. But I cannot place aside a feeling that something is wrong. Something that requires my due attention.

Then again, it is just a feeling.

Relationship Note on Alarissa

Gods, Da, I almost used all three of those dreaded words in a missive. It's a proud day. Cause while I might've used one or two - I didn't use all of them - and the honor was still granted to us Shepherds. After Delilah and spoke about it, I asked the Princess-Consort of Maelstrom, the Pearl of Thrax herself - Princess Alarissa Thrax - to be salt parent to Altair. She accepted, and that kid's going to be all the better for it, I know.
