Relationship Note on Lianne

The Marquessa is clever and wise. You should listen to her. (And I do love poetry. Just as much as I hate toads.)

Kristoph and Keirlys are over a year old now, and growing like weeds it seems. I imagine it won't be long before they're up and running around, terrorizing the servants.

What if you could have security and love? Something constant?

I record for posterity another one of my truly terrible poems. You may blame Marquessa Lianne, Duchess Khanne and Count Duarte for this one. And booze.

The sea during the day?
I'm filled with dismay
But the sea at night?
Now there's a fright!

Alone without hint of solid ground
Amid lustrous shadows I'll surely drown

Something slides by
No, I won't cry
With that slippery feel
Surely an eel!

It couldn't possibly be a shark
Swimming alone in the dark

My kingdom for a boat
Or simply to float
In crabgrass
Or seabass

Anything smaller would be just fine
Maybe a glimpse of the nearest coastline

But these aquatics at night
Will. Never. Be. Right.

There are a lot of exciting things coming up! I'll be hosting my first party at Eswyndol, which is not the first event I've hosted on behalf of Eswynd - that would have been the Prodigal Games, but it is the first at our home. My home. I'm looking forward to having people over to celebrate the end of summer in our beautiful spring-fed stone grotto. The apple and pear trees have been giving fresh fruit lately, and the berry bushes are very nearly done producing fruit. The mint is getting leggy with lovely purple blooms. The courtyard is just wonderful as we transition into autumn, and I hope everyone who comes enjoys it.

Some of you may have heard that our house is bringing a shiny new thing to market. Deeplight Coral! This special coral is unique to the waters around our island and sparkles in the light like a highly faceted diamond. We'll be holding a ball and auctioning off a unique necklace featuring the coral, designed and crafted by Master Ripley. It will be spectacular! I saw the planned menu for the evening, too, and I might need to rethink my dress so I can try a little bit of everything. Speaking of my dress, I can't wait to show it off. Come in your best oceanic and Mangata inspired outfits!

I also was approached by Mother Bianca to assist with the Good Harvest and Days of Libation celebrations! Princess Zara is hosting the Good Harvest celebration, I'll be hosting the first Day of Libation, and Mistress Caprice is hosting the second. More details on these holydays will be coming, but I'm definitely looking forward to finding out what the Libation of the Year is!

I've had reason to pray to Mangata more often as of late. And I recently had the chance to meet Mother Madeleine. It could all be a coincidence of the fact that I have joined a house of seafaring people, and thus Mangata is more prevalent in my life as a consequence, but the fact that many of the events I am committed to (including ones not mentioned here) all tie back to her as we continue to prep for a war at sea makes me wonder if there is some message I might be meant to receive? Ah, but that is probably quite silly to think. There is little reason for any god to try to speak to me. In any case, I am thrilled for the opportunities I am able to take advantage of and grateful to everyone else involved in all of these plans.

"-- security and constancy, rather than love --"

Thank you to all who came out for our ridiculous poetry competition. You were all remarkable, genuinely. I can't recall the last time I had such fun with so many strangers and half-familiar faces. I believe in the mad attempt to mount the harp, the winners did not receive appropriate recognition, and so I draw attention to them here.

Lady Monique Greenmarch performed an extemporaneous piece on nocturnal aquatics with a specific challenge, successfully met, to include seabass. Such terror she inspired!

Guildmaster Apollo Oakwood made masterful art of his stumbling over inappropriate proposals. What intimacy we were permitted to witness! Fine distraction and fitting recovery.

Sloane Starling provided Duchess Khanne's favorite, a piece on toads and nobility, on different kinds of mires. Such a quick wit. You should all send her poetry. She deserves it.

Savio, whose surname I missed, merits honorable mention not merely for his brilliant introduction, but for that extemporaneous piece atop the harp. Clever.

You were all such fine company, every last one of you in attendance. I am grateful to have my home thus warmed and my heart thus lightened. Thank you.

And thank you to my fellow judges and cohosts who kept things absurd on one side and earnest on the other. How well we all balance, my friends. I love you both dearly.

For those who may have missed it at the sloshed poetry slam, far be it from me to withhold a rhyming introduction of myself:

I'm a seafaring Southeastern Saffron who might
Stay up overthinking his poems all night
What can I tell them, and what's sure to divert?
Are these looks for my writing or because of my shirt?

But it's lovely to be here, I'm delighted and how
Could I ever express my elation right now?
You're all kind and creative and a little bit faded
Reticent modesty completely negated

I lost track of my intro, oh so irresponsible --
I'm your exotic and voluble tropical Prodigal!
It's fantastic to have made this poetry cameo
And if you need me I'm drunk but I answer to Savio!

It was a lovely party. I love the hosts. I love my friends. I love everybody. I'm so drunk right now.

If I drink spirits -- stay with spirits. Don't, ever-ever -- start with whiskey and end with beer. It's a dangerous combination.

Because apparently all the alcohol in the Compact will never make me a decent poet --or on time.

I have been searching. Reflecting.

I am back in the city. I think for now that is all that I wish to write for the day.

I have found this Charon tribe to be very generous and honorable. Their Chief Teague has given me many gifts, a wonderful steel great ax and very shiney new leathers. I have trained a bit in their style of combat and I find it odd. Cheif Teague is very difficult to put steel into, and I find it a challenge to throw down with him. But, I have improved, getting the squeeks out of this fresh new leather armor. I hope to have more scuffs soon, as right now, I present as a babe! Perhaps there is a good mead or beer here.

Well, fine. That one thing. It was an interesting conversation. Thank you, Lady M. Reach out whenever it pleases and we will resume the theological discussion.

Relationship Note on Saito

I have been working with Sir Saito, helping him get ready for this war. It will be his first by my side. I will make him hard as steel. He will become great or he will break. He will be great I know it. I only;y take the best of any man in service, for that is how I train to be ready for whatever will be thrown my way.

On being back:

There is so much I could say. Arx is very much changed in my time gone. Or maybe I, myself, have changed. I sense more tension in the air. Celebrations have an undercurrent of fear and worry. This isn't the Arx I left. I hope that we remember how strong we are as a Compact. That winds of change can gust yet we will remain.

To say I feel overperfumed at the moment is an understatement, and I wasn't anywhere near the actual creation. I suppose there are worse things to smell like than flowers, plums, and the ocean breeze.

But perhaps not all at once. I need a bath.

I enjoyed dinner after the sun went down and my fast ended, however it wasn’t just the conversations with knights at the Ambassador that were interesting. It's not a secret I absolutely love pre-reckoning Oathlandic chivalric romance literature and so I requested Lady Astraea to pick a book out of the book case randomly and see where it might take us as I enjoyed a deliciously scrumptious slice of apple pie.

Our journey delved into the sultry tale of a particular tempted baron and a salacious breadcrumb.

While I listened with held breath and hand to chest to each word she whispered as she read, how terrible it was to find out that this isn’t the actual end of our journey? That there might be more tales to explore?

But who would ever read a journal of mine about breadcrumbs or pies? And where oh where might these tales of bread be found?
