Relationship Note on Lexir

The gown, slippers and veil of Olivetta and a type of revenge. This trip has been unforgettable. Well worth the horror of crossing the seas. He is a shining example of Pravus at its best.

Welp. Advertising abilities at a tourney did nothing. Time to fall back to the old ways.

Anisha told me something about myself. I would like to share it.

"You ache, because you love so strongly. You love so fully. All you are is love. You give so much of yourself, pour yourself into everything you do...

And then you look up, and in the moment, you are alone. And it's unfair, and it hurts. And you wonder, if you love, so hard, so much.... Why do you still feel alone? Why are you not feeling loved the way you love? Where is the candle that burns only for you, always for you. That is with you with every breath of every hour.

...And then you wonder, what is it they see that you don't. Why are you alone? Always alone; there's a hollow inside you. A hunger for acceptance. For being cherished and loved and told you are enough."

Anisha is right, of course. She is the only person who sees my heart for what it is. This is a bold, vulnerable thing to share in the Whites. She sees me for who I am. The good and the bad. I treasure you, Ani. Thank you.

I predicted last year how different this birthday would be. I was not wrong. As I prepare to sail for Pieros, I can thank only the gods that I am where I need to be. Admiral Lucrezia and Prince Patrizio bring intelligence and fire to the military prepartions. Allegra governs Pieros tirelessly in these last weeks and her work is only going to grow. I do not have the voice to acknowledge everyone who deserves it; what you do is seen, each part invaluable.

The Skal'dajan fleet is vast. Its forces are adept. And yet. We are not so small. This will mark the fourth time we will have driven back the Skal'dajans. This chapter will end with a period. It is time for another.

Gloria, we are your sword and your banner. We shall not fear.

One day, when I was a young woman, my horse ran from me.

The timing was poor because we had been hired to eliminate a band of roving shavs from a meadow near a village up north. Because I did not have my horse, I was told by my captain that I could not participate. The others left for the mission the next day; I remained in the village. They never returned.

The next hour after I learned such news, my horse returned to me, and I rode back to the company's headquarters.

Today's tea was a black tea, with lovely aromatic cocoa and nuts to delight the senses. I think maybe my brother sent this one to me, though I am not certain.

In other news Lady Emilie did not sleep well. Which means that I did not sleep well. Thankfully, her brothers slept, and so too did her father. She and I had some very good conversations about life, Arx, family and sleeping at night. I don't think it helped much.

Pride turns nobles to tyrants; humility turns soldiers into heroes.

Humility is the capacity to learn from criticism. Humility is not a willingness to submit to authority. Abandoning what one is doing merely because it does not accord with the will or word of another is death to the spirit; the proper term for that is servility.

The humble are without ego, and for that they shall enjoy the Gods' blessings.

In order for valor, courage, and bravery to have any depth -- you need to be afraid. Being afraid can then shove us in the direction of doing the hard thing. Got it.

Relationship Note on Macario

That was -- Scholar, I swear't -- a incredibly bland and terribly uneventful picnic. Lord Macario asked a lot of questions, he laughed at my (terrible -- admittedly) jokes and brought wine that was more suited to a courtly table rather than the edge of the forest. What I mean to say is: cups. He brought cups. Cups. Instead of just drinking the wine straight from the bottle. Gods -- fucking cups.

The only concession I will grant is that Lord Macario can keep up a brisk pace on the trail.

Must be the legs.

Last night, the conversations which filled Eidolon Gallery were anything but disappointing. I found beauty and hope and grace and challenge and, yes, heaviness and grief. Such magnificent complexity expressed by our guests, inspired by the art. I am so grateful, so glad to have worked with so many fine artists on such a compelling exhibit.

It will remain on display, available to the public, for a season, likely, until a new one is complete. I encourage the curious to consider a visit, to explore the many shades of disappointment on display.

I'd be curious to know your thoughts, which pieces catch your eye or move you in some way.

Relationship Note on Natasha

I will note to whatever scholars, peers, or citizens who happen to read this that Princess Natasha Thrax has a natural aptitude for certain methods of combat. She requires refinement and conditioning, but this will come with practice. To say more regarding "certain methods" would be to do Her Highness a grave disservice, as at this stage in the development of her skill, it will suit her far better for any potential opponents to not realize what is coming.

Our business on the Isle of Markets has ended, or perhaps it is better to say 'begun,' well and with nobody dead for the moment.

I have managed to lay out something approaching a proper a proper legal code. One cannot expect the locals to pay it much more than lip service, but every great work must start somewhere. If today a man acknowledges Compact authority as something he chooses to disregard, then in a year he will at least keep up the appearance of obedience, in five he will obey in truth, and in ten he might even begin to trust his enemies to do the same. And so on and so forth, until one day his grandson aspires to serve that authority with honour and wonders at how his forefathers ever got along without it.

Note to self: Must think of a polite way to ask the Marquis why he returned from negotiations smelling slightly of spoiled pork.

Relationship Note on Orland

When I first met with Lord Orland Amadeo, he spoke with sincerity and honesty. He is adventurous and intelligent. Though perhaps lacking confidence, he is extremely reliable. His features are common, but uncoarse, symmetrical and possessed of a peculiar charm.

I have not worked with Lord Orland for long, but he is quickly becoming an indispensable friend. Beware those who might pass over this young lord, like so many ships over the surface of the sea. I will say no more on this account, save that those who underestimate him do so at their own peril.

Jan. 12, 2021, 11:49 a.m.(9/26/1014 AR)

There is cat hair everywhere.

It finds it's way into the food, onto my clothing, I smell it burning when a strand hits a lamp and the crackle. While his Majesty's benevolence is gratefully accepted, I find the sheer amount of cats... overwhelming. You cannot move without stepping on one and they seem to congregate the most in the cross halls. I am forever stepping on a tail without intention and the creatures shred the hems of my gowns and glare at me as if it were purposeful.
