Do you ever wonder what your life would be like if you didn't have that one that you felt was making you different? That's how I feel sometimes. That if I didn't have that one thing, maybe I would be normal. That I wouldn't have to base my decisions on what could possibly happen. "It's a gift, Chipmunk." Don't look at me like that scholar, yes it's a nickname. Don't you think about calling me that!

But sometimes I don't feel like it's a gift. I know I TELL people it is, and I'm sure it is. It is. I know it is. But I can't help but wonder. What would it be like if I was just plain ole Rosa. Would I be the same as I am now.

How does one put words to so many things discovered at once? A simple winter’s walk in the woods that soon was not.

So much to think on before speaking to anyone just yet. Better to think long rather to regret longer.

I must admit, I am curious to what happen next. Another walk soon, perhaps.

It's been a week! A week. All this planning is not me. Not even a little. Thank the Gods it USUALLY only happens once. Which reminds me....I need to have a new dagger made. For not me. What? Talking of such planning doesn't remind you of weapons and stabbing?

I'm planning another thing, scholar! With the help of Lady Deia of couse. Because what do I know about planning and making sure things run smoothly? I mean, that other thing I planned? It was a SUCCESS! I bet you were worried, but it was FINE! Everything was fine!

Long ago there was a hawk
Who came to know a dove
With sharp and sweet affection
Unwise, unasked-for love

"I can't help but love you
Although we're unlike things,"
Said the little mourning dove
From the shelter of hawk wings

"What I am will hurt you
Although I wish it wasn't so,"
Said the hawk to his lover
But he couldn't bear to go

Dove didn't choose departure
Nor leave the hawk to his
"I know the choice my heart has made
And I know what this is"

One day the dove looked for the hawk
And saw him diving from the sky
Torn apart beneath his claws
And bleeding, asked him why?

He looked upon what he had done
And the one that he had loved
But duty's owed to that cruel hunt
And hawk whispered to his dove:

"I'm sorry that I hurt you
My kind and guiltless love
But I have to be what I am
And you knew what this was."

Everyone loves allegory, right?

Relationship Note on Haakon

(OOC - I'm an idiot and accidentally deleted this SORRY SORRY)

Sea Shanties with the Eswynds! What an excellent event, as I knew it would be.

This is a lovely story about my favorite subject - myself - and about a friend of mine, and about sailing. Specifically rowing. This is a lovely story about a lot of rowing.

When I came to the mainland, my brother said to me
You won't be a sailor till you sail the northern sea
I know the one to teach you, if you think you can --
Go find Lord Haakon Eswynd, and that'll be your man

I said my lord I'm here to learn, and I am from the Chain
He said I'll blister both those hands, your arms will be in pain
If you want to be a sailor then there's one thing you must know:
How to get into this longship, and row and row and row

Row, row, row, Savio!
Oh the sky is dark and the sea is vast
Row, row, row, Savio!
Or Haakon Eswynd will kick your ass!

We set sail before the dawn and rowed around the bay
Hauling on those bloody oars until well past mid-day
Hours later, shore in sight, I said 'well that was fun'
And Haakon looked at me and said, 'you think we're fucking done?'

Row, row, row, Savio!
Oh sink that oar, pull sure and fast
Row, row, row, Savio!
Or Haakon Eswynd will kick your ass!

Weeks and weeks and more of this, I asked if I've got it down
He looked at me unmoved and said, 'you might not fucking drown'
Sweetest words I've ever heard, the peace and joy of knowing
That now I can sail any sea, thanks to Haakon's goddamned rowing

Row, row, row, Savio!
Oh keep this lesson, make it last
Row, row, row, Savio!
Or Haakon Eswynd will kick your ass!

I suppose I will have to put some balls of thread near the entry to the Manse, so that hapless guests will not get lost and subsequently burst into flames.

Reading that song in the whites lifted my heart so much, I can't even tell you. Making something may be the great pleasure of my life; making something with someone else - well. There's nothing finer. Thank you, Princess Sorrel.

Relationship Note on Raja

Thoughts of... receiving another gift...

Cardin snakeskin is something far too ... rich for my blood. But yet, I find myself wearing these new gloves with a sense of gratitude to Raja Culler for it. What could have turned into an argument or a duel, or something entirely violent, didn't. I had a set of gloves that had belonged to someone she cared for and I returned it at once when I found out.

I had honestly forgotten about it. She didn't, nor did she forget about the promise to replace those gloves.

It's always humbling to be remembered.

Relationship Note on Sebastian

Thoughts of ... humbleness... and a student of charity....

Followers of my journals and friends in my circles may know I was taken in by the Order of East Light as a squire. In timing with that and in timing with a focus of life that is heading in a different direction than what I otherwise thought, I'm hosting a days worth of Events Dedicated to the Physician and Mercies of Lagoma.

I joined the Order of East Light to better protect those whom I call friend, family, and fealty. But, I wouldn't have joined them at all if it wasn't for being saved of my own injuries, or having my love's life saved by them as well, or of my friend's life. I came very close to losing people I had opened myself up to. Very close.

For that, I wanted to Honor the people who helped.

So I started reaching out... and Prince Sebastian... donated 500,000 silver to the event, for prizes or direct donation. I wasn't expecting to gain such an affirmation of what I'm doing. Here it is though. A sponsor.

That's a lot of silver. We can do a lot of good with it. And we will.

Now I need to find a Whisper to Help me plan the rest of this, so this party goes well.

But first, my thanks to Prince Sebastian and to House Pravus for their support.

Often, winter is the time when people are able to catch up on the things that fairer weather makes a bit more difficult to do. The stores can be more easily counted, as few wagons are making their way from the north to unload yet more grain or what have you. Things do not stop, of course, as winter does not reach all of the Compact, but for us? There is a touch of a breather. I feel like I've spent much of the last few weeks doing such catch up, being scarce on the social scenes, as they say. It is needed work, though, and I do enjoy it - dull as some may find it. The quiet tasks that no one sees are just as important as the ones that are not, and I am truly blessed to have a family full of people who happily excel at both for House Redrain.

As a sort of opposite move - which wasn't actually planned but here we are - I did some sun-themed cupridium hairpins to sell alongside the snowflake seraphinite brooches. I did a handful of sketches recently as well: a flying dragon, a griffin on a shield, a sword and shield, and a helmet with some swords. I'm not sure what they will end up as, if they all even end up as anything, but all things in life start with a first step - and sometimes that's the hardest one.

Well scholar, my sister went home again for a bit. I say a bit, because I really have no idea how long she will be gone this time. I have no doubt Stormheart needs her more right now. Home is important you know. I know I miss and I know the ocean calls to her. She needs adventure just as much as me. In different ways, except scholar. I have responsibility now!

Relationship Note on Savio

Thoughts of ...love...

I love you when you're with me
And I miss you when you're far
Nothing will ever take me from you
There is no night without stars

I worship you completely
And this brilliant thing that's ours
I will be yours always
There is no night without stars

I will always keep you safe
In my devotion and my arms
I will live and die for you
There is no night without stars.

Here are words that resonate through the distances,
Where I have been has lead me to know what my existence is,
All made greater when one fashions a purpose of love
But further still, when one becomes the other's beloved...

Barf still dislikes socks. He'll let me put them on him without a fuss, but then he refuses to walk anywhere. You wouldn't think someone who smells like a swamp skunk would cling to their dignity so firmly. Oh well. He still likes his spiked collar and I know that if I replaced his ratty old blanket, he'd never forgive me.

Yes, my social life is very active, thank you. I'm doing very important stuff and things, all the time. Why just yesterday, I had tea with Marigold.

I adore festivals!
The beer festival is upon us. I think everyone could use a pleasant distraction that involves good drinks, good foods and some games.
Do you think it is a problem scholar, that I am holding a beer festival and I do not like beer?
Thank goodness for Master Venturo.

While my hiatus prevented holding the bi-monthly Blackshore luncheons I had endeavored to make a thing, and the creation and proliferation of the collectible coins I had planned to make the idea popular, I have since endeavored to start trying to schedule them more frequently. If anyone would like to get involved and have their own house - or, I suppose some idea of personal significance - minted on some coins for people to hoard, please feel free to leave messages at The Intrepid.

Note to self, dear scholar - a little less drinking, and a little less attention paid to one's companions for the evening when throwing darts.

Fortunately, not much was hurt aside from my pride (only slightly) and my purse (just a tic more than the pride)...

Relationship Note on Lailah

I invited Lady Lailah to take tea with me this week, and find her to have a keen mind and penchant for asking probing questions. Her directness and mode of speech did at one point leave me needing to pick my jaw up from the floor but I think I've found a friend in her.

We finished the last jar of summer fruit preserves that were so carefully prepared for the household last year. It's been such a favourite with everyone that I'll have to ask Claudette if she can make double quantities this coming year.

It was amazing to see my Uncle Kenjay fight for the first time, and a true honor knowing it was to Champion my side. I never doubted his performance would be any less than stunning. Today I am very grateful for family support, and glad he made his way back to us.
