To see my name and my efforts at the State of the Compact was a very nice surprise but I believe I should speak a little bit more about Melaeris; there is no thralldom in Astarrea. House Melaeris has raised banners against House Thrax and House Tyde, many times before, in the name of abolishment of thralldom and while I greatly appreciate the peace we have found with our lady Duchess of Tyde, Lady Margot and the highlord of Thrax, Victus, we are opponents with very polarizing views, but not all battles need to be bloody and not all battles need to take place in the field. To resolve your differences in court, under the judgement of your peers and in a civil matter is a honorable and efficient compromise. Praise be to Gloria but if history is a lesson in life, our best option and only option has to be through diplomacy with respect towards the laws of the land.
I do not need to convince my niece for the end of thralldom because it's very abolishment is the purpose of our house. Let me just say that when it comes to wills, it's a good thing to be prepared. So why leave it as an entry in a journal amongst thousand others?
You have collected fine things, you have worked your sweat and brow to earn what you have. Why would you let it languish, with simply a throw-away remark written down in your spare time to safeguard it all? That's no way to handle business. No, what you need is an honest-to-goodness Last Will and Testament.
After all, if you are going to die, do it on your terms! Leave your survivors with the comfort and ease that is a properly prepared will. They are already dealing with heartache, who would be so cruel that they'd leave them with a headache as well?
Handmade, crafted to your specification and without loopholes. Signed and witnessed, with copies safely stored so that there can be no arguments. A document made to make you rest easy in that final rest. A will you can be proud of for the remainder of your days.

I made my way to the Redrain estates the other day so I might have a chance to formally introduce myself to the Prince and Princess. Met several people. Listened in on a lot of discussions. Perhaps next time I might have more a clue as to what half of what they discussed meant.
Went home and changed, then explored a little. Made at least one friend.

This new venture idea is truly appealing, and I am wondering more and more how we will go about getting it all set up. I know that first, we must find a suitable place for the shop and go from there. I'm too excited about it all. Just think of the pastries!

I believe all the previous people writing wills, until this latest spurt, were those going on the maiden voyage of the Carlotta. I mean, it's smart. It's a boat. It /could/ sink, but I hope it doesn't. Because, for personal reasons, I really, really want to see the maiden voyage of the Carlotta to be successful. I mean, really, what explorer /wouldn't/ want an OCEAN VOYAGING VESSAL be successful?
I have the Eventide to sail to again, and the cogs just can't cut it. I know this from experience. I've tried. They don't hack the storms, and don't have enough storage for supplies. We lost a ship and barely made it home. There's a hidden continent to find people. HIDDEN CONTINENT!
So, I'm glad people are setting wills, but please be safe, and don't sink!

Okay, here we go...
I wrote a very long letter, to my friends, to my loved ones, to my family. I listed out, item by item, everything I owned, and to whom it should go to. I submitted it to the blacks. But now as I see talk of wills reappearing in the whites, and as I asked the scholars to pull my own from the archives, I have to wonder what I was doing. What was the point of all that? To make myself cry? To make others cry? I don't know. I don't really understand.
So, I want to make things simple. Should I die, everything goes to Itzal. There's a safe place I put stuff - Magpie has a key. There's some letters in there, along with a lot of junk. Do as you wish with all of it, baby brother (though my recommendation is to burn it, especially the artwork).

It seems like every few months the people of Arx get fatalistic and decide they need to write up wills.
So, once again, here is mine:
All my stuff in my rooms in Arx and Granato goes to Lucy. She can figure out where to throw it.
The Red Bargain goes to my quartermaster Serrano, so long as he isn't a dick about it and keeps on our new first mate, Presunto. I'd suggest he make sea artist Bayonne his new quartermaster, but that's up to him. Keep Culatello as a bos'n, because that's the best place to keep an eye on him.
Also, scrap all of that because if I die at sea I promise you Mangata will spit me back up eventually.

I would be honored by the trust that Laric has placed in me by asking Gareth and I to serve as High Inquisitor in the absence of himself and Alistair, but I am personally certain that he did it specifically in vengeance for some undisclosed sin of mine.
His Majesty's Inquisition stands ready to serve. We will hunt down the enemies of the Crown no matter who stands at the helm.
Who knows? Perhaps if we manage to be efficient in his absence, Laric will, in future, leave his office for longer than 18 minute intervals (I've timed him, it's how long it takes him to go to the bank and return).

Three years and five months, I've had this blade, this lovely dagger you gave me with the expectation that I would learn how to use it. Three years and five months, I have kept this blade without once bothering with lessons despite the numerous times I carried it with me as we ventured off somewhere awful.
Today, I made some honest effort to learn how to hold it, how to swing and stab and not be utterly useless should I ever have cause to draw the thing. I still mean to never find reason, but I do feel some odd sort of ease at finally making good. I think you would have been pleased, to some small degree, with both myself and my instructor, though he tells me I ought to find another if I mean to be at all proficient with its use.
Still, it's a start. Long overdue.
