A very lovely woman to be sure, and worthy of praise and attention. I am sure she has a very vivid inner life under that smooth outwards appearance. Still, caution should be advised- she is, after all, from Setarco.

I could, if you would like, make you a fairly thorough list of all the great many things, intermittently dire, which have distracted us from details like birthdays and wine and lazy afternoons spent enjoying the gardens. It may be more productive if we simply work towards enjoying what's left of summer while we're all still mostly whole and mostly well.

In the Duchess Belladonna Pravus I have become acquainted with a woman born of compassion and respect for the deeper parts of ourselves, the gracious humanity that we all possess. Ours was a path made difficult by our own and divided pride. But as we are each able to step around the ugly sticky confines of that divide, I think we find in each other a kindred heart and spirit.

I have had the pleasure of meeting the Duchess of Pravus finally after so long. I must say I rather find her presence and company agreeable. She is deep of thought and can easily read the logical flow of war and what must be done. I look forward to building upon our friendship.

Duchess Belladonna Pravus?
I encountered her some weeks ago, first, in the shrine of the Sentinel. She'd been in prayer for far longer than I think her attending ladies were comfortable with, but she endured the discomfort and roused from her reverence with resilient grace and ease that I can only secretly hope for when the gods awful time comes for me to be with child. (Years from now, hopefully, after I've become a great sea admiral of the Oathlands and made Prince Edain talk like a sea-born sailor and outrace no less than three of the greatest ships the Mourning Isles have to offer. More on these ambitious goals later!)
Anyway. The Sentinel clearly blessed me with running into her that day, and any time thereafter. She has been nothing but kind and indulgent of my whims. From the picnic I sprung on her, and now this event to celebrate the continuity of life in the face of death, she's been my enabler to do things far beyond myself and I always feel better after having shared her company. She's quickly becoming someone I'd like to call a friend.

She is not as I expected. I do not know what I expected though - the circumstances are as unique as it gets. We were both conditioned to match a certain set of challenges and prove their superior - always superior - and her star is on the rise. I refuse to be a pawn but are we still sliding across on a board, matching wits with one we cannot see?

When her father died the way he did, I feared for her. She is smart and strong-willed, but she was surrounded by enemies and young. I underestimated her. She has taken hold of her duchy with a firm and resolute will. She leads it with the hopes of her father, but with the determination and strength to ensure it moves as she wishes it. She is fierce about the safety and prosperity of her duchy and I am proud to call her both ally and friend.

Relationship Note on Belladonna
Duchess of House Pravus, I have known Belladonna since we were both children. Though we were of such different stations that we did not know each other well, I have great respect for her. Still, she is a member of the House that turned me out where I should have had a home, and it is important to remember that while she is to be treated with respect, she is to be handled like an asp, alluring and deadly.
