It is good that I have you to rely upon, again. We might see the other side of this.

Relationship Note on Barric

That the Prince Barric Grayson has decided to call me a friend and I him-- is a bright spot in all of the darkness that I have faced in these past days. He is remarkably sharp and intelligent, despite the face that he shows the world, and a good friend to have.

I have already sent to commission a painting that we discussed for him.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

Good fighter. Too big for this world. Fuck that sword of his. Can put away whiskey with the best of them, which only makes sense, because he has a stomach the size of a cow's to put it into.

I cannot express the depth of my gratitude for those that have helped me in the past days. For those that have given their empathy and advice in times such as these. For those willing to drop their own problems to offer to help with my own. It restores my faith in the world with each moment of connection, showing me that I still have a place.

We leave for Gemecitta on the morrow. But, I look forward to when we return to the city of Arx.

Relationship Note on Morrighan

I barely know her. But at the same time, the face you see when they are deep in their cups is often the true face they keep buried. If that's so? Morrighan is a true Northerner, and a fine person. I don't regret making her drink until she was blind, because I was too. Good times, look forward to more.

I find myself laying here in bed, and staring at this wonderful ceiling that my cousin had constructed (I still think it's all a bit too much, really) and I wonder if this life is fit for me. But then I remember that every time I think that, something or someone comes along to remind me that there are good things in the world, even in this place.

Last night was amazing, from what I can remember. I might be dying from it, but it was good times, good laughs, and good people, and that's rare, in these days.

And some of the people I have met are so interesting and alluring that they quite make me forget I am in a strange city, in a strange land, with strange people.

Blitz also helps. He slipped into the city and thankfully was intercepted by a few Northerners that guessed who he probably belonged to. That rowdy, furry bastard. I missed him so much, and I think I'll have need of him, in the days to come.

That was..Spirit's /Balls/, that was a battle for the fucking ages. Morrighan is a true Warrior of the Cups. Gonna have a fucking medal made for her. I won, but..Did I? Fucking coffee and stew tastes like acid in my stomach, and I feel like I'm going to just pitch over and never get up again. Looking forward to that rematch, Morr...Wait, who the hell carried me home?

The Steward's Job: A Handbook

From the household of the Regent to the humblest common dwelling - including, more or less the distant relatives and varying numbers of servants and dependents usually cohabiting with the Lord or Lady of the house and his or her immediate family.

Truly, not all positions of a household have truly distinctive positions outside of what is typically known - but, within these broad classifications there is a definitive array of other occupations. Each occupation fills a crucial space in the social system or a manor to ensure that the household is properly maintained.

Yet, many of these positions would also serve other functions, and there would be servants entirely devoted to domestic tasks. At the lower level, these were simply commoners recruited from the localities. The higher level positions – in particular those attending on the lord or lady – were often filled by persons of rank: sons and daughters of local nobles, merchants, retainers or vassals.

The steward of a household is one such position. To cover the daily tasks of managing a manor, villa, or estate a noble hired a steward. Normally, the steward was the head of all the domestic personnel, merely in charge of the estate.

From there, the position evolves into the steward aiding the household accounts and books. Calculating revenue from taxes and money spent.

At times, there are two stewards; dividing responsibilities of the estate between two - one managing the household and the other assigned to administrative duties. Also known as seneschal, major-domo or ...

[ What follows is a dry, but accurate history of the position, outlined duties, etiquette and expectations. ]

In conclusion, although a steward is promised to serve their House, theirs is a position of power - not, necessarily of status. A minor character in the greater play of a household, but, always an essential one.

Always: to be true and loyal to your household. To be prudent and faithful and frugal. To know the members of your house, lands, and people. To show hospitality to allies. To welcome friends. To know the law of the realm. To protect the business of your Lord or Lady. To instruct the staff properly and ensure that the household knows no difficulties.

Under the Pantheon,
Written in homage and fealty,

It would seem Blitz slipped out when no one was looking. I assume he went to find Sigurd. I'm not worried, the direwolf will be fine. The local clans are causing trouble, I don't think it'll impact my journey home when the time comes, but I might bring Aurum with me nonetheless. Just in case a clansman needs his face bitten off.

My fucking head feels like it's going to burst. I'm going to die this morning. It's all your Gods damned fault, Sigurd Nightgold. Fucking Abyss. It's only fair you're writhing in agony, too. That shit isn't fit to drink and shouldn't exist in this world. It's not normal. I'm a drinking professional - this has never happened before, that liquor is unholy. Burn it.

They have some good ale in the palace. Some real good ale. I suppose it makes sense, though. If you can't get good ale in the palace, where can you?

Anyway, the point is that I'm not quite the fucking pessimist I apparently come across as. I can see the positives, even if I don't necessarily declare them atop of my fucking lungs.

Like the palace having good ale, almost good enough to make up for it being the fucking palace.

And pie. Good pie, too. That cook knows her business.

Relationship Note on Ida

Meeting Dame Ida was an absolute delight. Frank in her opinions, and she sees things in a way that those born to nobility do not. I will certainly be taking her up on her offer to visit again; this may be the start of a thoroughly enjoyable friendship. I can't wait to see the final result of her designs for my commissions.

Relationship Note on Edain

Not at all what I was expecting of the Valardin Prince. He seems earnest, especially in his desire to embrace even the newest members of the Compact. It remains to be seen if what I have observed so far is indeed the truth, but I am willing to take the time needed to be certain.

Relationship Note on Jayeth

Jayeth Black, a Valadrin Master Smith and armorer. Reese met him after exploring the shops within the Compact as if she was led. After much discussion, the master smith forged her armor and presented it to Reese. Reese has appointed him her personal armorer, and should she ever have the opportunity, she seeks him out for her needs and tells others about his abilities. Reese has spent much time at the actual smithy, watching him as he crafts armor and they talk about many things.

I have to say that I'm not sure that these journals are the historical accounts the generations to come will need. But I suppose I will do my part, and make my contribution, as that is why I have come to the city, after all. Well, that and because my dear baby sister requires someone to keep her out of trouble. Unfortunately, it sounds like she will soon have accomplices and it may be more than I can manage.

Worse, though, is the news that greeted me, that there may be something headed towards the Greenwood. And me without a decent bow to my name. Looks like I'll have to remedy that situation as quickly as possible, as well as cornering cousin Niamh for details.

Relationship Note on Leola

Mistress Leola Allenatore is an animal trainer, and very good at her job. She and I arrived in Arx at the same time; we first met on our first night in the city, when we were both hopelessly lost. We spent a bit of time wandering together until we got our bearings, and promised to check in with each other later.

We've sent each other messengers every so often since then, but until recently we hadn't seen each other in person again. Now I've had a chance to reconnect with her again more recently; I'm giving her a weapon, and she gave me a pet bird to brighten up the shop.

In a way, she was my first friend in Arx, even if we didn't really talk that much to start; it's nice to have a chance to actually get to know her better.

Relationship Note on Signe

When she first arrived to the city her and I had our differences, but what is one to expect with Shaman that adhere to different paths? I believe it was moreso she needed time to adapt to the city. I know I had to. Now that she is here I am glad, having taken her under my wing in a way to help her find her voice and the confidence to carry it through to her faith. It isn't the family name that we serve in this capacity, nor the banner of fealty. A higher calling is attributed that superlative for a reason.

After that ritual she assisted me with? Well, she'll be just fine here.

Relationship Note on Reese

A courteous, devout young noblewoman by the name of Reese is whom I found praying within the Shrine of Gloria this day. She took a great interest in prayer to the Goddess, and requested from me the possibility of a sermon. I cannot refuse one who asks for such a service.
