Does the dominus even know the meaning of the word wanton? I am fairly certain that the answer to that is no, considering its use to describe the members of my family. I have to wonder if he's ever been in the same room as any of us outside the Assembly; we'd probably give the poor man a heart attack or worse if he had to endure our pagan presence. Not that it matters. I'm certain I'm not the only one who sees this "proclamation" for what it truly is.

Relationship Note on Silas

He made the benches for my fair grounds and I adore him or that. He didn't even charge me. And then he made a wine for me, the Blushing Nightingale. I love it! Silas is a gentleman and true night. He is so generous.

Today it seems that a single line has more profound influence on public opinion than the third under the Laws of Limerance. Perhaps, we need to include this "--This is the fidelity between men and the gods." Today, I consider this addition to envelops and accepts those new - once lost - those new gods, or spirits, or whatever you wish to call them -- they seek blood. They need blood-magic. Volunteers offered themselves to a sacrifice for our safety. That is the fidelity between those gentles and us.

Unless there is some type of strange consideration that divides the Pantheon from the Compact - a wall, a seperation -

That does require change, does it not?

Relationship Note on Donella

While we do not agree on many things, I find that there is much to admire about Princess Donella. To say she has a similar sense of fashion is not the artificial remark as it seems - rather, she understands the use of it as a tool, to be taken out when it is needed and put away once more when it is not. She conducts conversations about serious topics when there is diametric opposition with respect for the person on the other side, and presents her own arguments effectively.

Frankly, her remarks regarding the actions of the Faith today made me want to kiss her on the mouth.

The Duke is my sister's patron. He seems like an intelligent and composed man. His family appear to be quite loyal to him. I think he is beloved among them. There must be something special about him, if Acacia would choose him for a patron.

[A lengthy, thirty-page paper entered into the Journals under the title of 'Balance Between Faith and Compact.' It is written in a precise, flowing, almost delicate hand. Some of the text follows:

""While within a demense, one must obey all laws set by the demense's lord. This is the fidelity between Limerance and Gild."-The Third Law of Limerance.

This is one shield and defense some have taken to using against the Faith's division of the realm(I warned myself against this division, and others--I still do. It was poorly chosen). The other is to attack the man himself--poor arguments in many cases, and ones worth considering(but without evidence) in others. Both attempts are wrong--but I am a servant of the Compact and the Law. Gods and Spirits compel me to write on this first misuse.

Scholars, patriots, priests, and Kings wiser than me have considered the Law of Limerance against the what some have phrased as imperatives(of various sorts)--morality, according to them, is determined by beliefs which you may reasonable expect all to follow. I do not argue against the Third Law of Limerance--it is the core of the Compact. I argue against a defense which wishes to make the Faith toothless and powerless while hiding behind it.

The laws of any domain are made by men--to be within another's demesne is to follow and obey laws of Men. To say that it is always, totally, and completely moral to obey the laws of any demesne purely because of the this Article of Faith? It is foolish. We accept the laws of other powers--they are equal within the Compact, legally. We do not accept that they are equal morally, nor before the Faith.

I introduce one Baron Josiah Alvar--a modest landholder in the Crownlands(he does not exist--bear with me). He has three laws: those that enter into his domain and use their left hand to eat or drink are to be put to death. Any who enter into his land without his leave are to be made thralls. Any who enter into his demesne riding a horse are to give that horse to the first horseless man they come across."

The paper examines these laws at length--is it moral to expect ALL to obey any immoral law(or absurd) any man may come up with? No--to obey any domain's laws, whatever they are, may not be universally applied, for any of those laws -may- not be universally applied. "Some may. The issue at hand is the Teind--it may be moral, depending upon the execution." "Though it is a threat to the unity of the Compact," it is written, "one must stand by the laws of the heart and Faith, disobedient of temporal laws--quietly, civilly--in support of higher laws. To do otherwise--to argue otherwise--is to try and declaw and make toothless the Faith."

"Let me postface this with the confession: I have taken no grand public stand on the Teind. I would not think to criticize those that have chosen either loudly and publicly without doing so myself. I remain critically undecided. What, then, do I say to those defending themselves from charges of heresy, apostasy, and division from the Faith?

Bear the weight. Were I to proudly accept the Teind, I would proudly accept that it is Blood Magic--anathema to the Faith. This excommunication has been a long time coming. Petition Archlectors and Legates for change--do not divide us further with attempts to tear down Institutions. Beg for their molding and transformation. Stand for what you did and bear the wounds you must on behalf of it. If it is moral, if it is right, history will stand by it. Do not move." It is signed, at the end, Jeremiah Arvani.]

The Most Holy Dominus Fawkkuhl forgets the third law of Limerance, "While within a demense, one must obey all laws set by the demense's lord. This is the fidelity between Limerance and Gild.".
For someone so close to the Gods, you think he would know that.

The first lesson thralls learn at Grihem’s Point is what will happen, should they deny obedience. Many mainlanders have spoken I'll of my family for how we treat out subjects, because they mistake order for cruelty, and weakness for humanity.

There is an order to life in Arvum, and it does not change as much as many think, from realm to realm. The strong rule, for as long as strength and wisdom support each other. Should one of these pillars fall behind, the house teeters. Should one pillar fail, the house falls.

The lesser folk serve, for such is their lot. To pretend otherwise is delusion, nobility can not exist without the leal service of freemen and thralls. Freemen can live lives of great worth and glory, if they are strong, wise, and obedient. This is the order of law, and of life.

Another lesson we teach our thralls is that any who stir their fellows to rebellion while the longships are away, will be put to death over a number of days, for it is the blackest crime to incite revolt against our wives and children while battles are being fought.

I honor the Pantheon, as I always have. If this Dominus were truly a servant, he'd be tortured to death. But mainlanders are content to let him act like a Prince.

How strange that the least of Grimhall thralls have learned a lesson unknown to the great princes of the mainland.

Politics are a necessary evil I hope to endure as little as possible. I keep my opinions to my self and I do my job - protecting my family and by extension, working to protect the compact.

Sometimes politics interfere with my job. And that makes me unhappy. This business with the Dominus, the Council of Regents, the Elves and their ridiculous pandering games, is starting to effect my ability to do my job. Chaos is the enemy of productivity. Don't feed the chaos.

Get it together. Someone reliable please stand up and take the Regency. I don't care who it is so long as they can reasonably handle the pressure and open the lines of communication between all the High Lords. If that 'person' is a council? Fine. Act like a unified leader.

Where do I start?

I hate feeling useless. I became a fucking medic to help my people and spare them pain. So when there's shit I can't fix I get angry and frustrated.

I hate feeling manipulated. I can point a bunch of fingers around on that one. I'm not here to play politics, I'm here to save lives of those I care for and end the lives of those who'd take the lives of those I care for. THAT is my job. Stop getting in my way or using my research to further you own fucking ends.

I hate it when all my prejudices end up being very valid and showing up on display. There's a reason I think the way I do and I hate seeing it proven right.

Relationship Note on Fawkuhl

Loss has been on the forefront of my mind as of late. This is the season of loss. Loss of love. Loss of freedoms once taken for granted. Loss of esteem for men and women that otherwise held it.

Loss of a parent -- The Compact lost a parent, recently. She abandoned it, throwing herself from the nest so as to shield it from danger with her own body. Though she has returned, we are forever made more independent from her by that act.

In another time after suffering a blow as the one I was struck with last night, I might not have found the strength of character to let my curtains be drawn open or to rise from my bed ...were it not for that mother's example ...were it not for my own maternal instinct, planted now in my heart.

There are those who would be poor substitutes for a parent if they could. They would harm the children they have sworn to protect, keeping them forever reliant on themselves ...for vanity that they mistake for pride ...for what selfish benefit could be gained from the post. They might cause opportunistic chaos to achieve their wicked ends.

Today when my feet touched the floor beside my bed and shifted to accommodate my weight as I stood -- I hope you felt it. I'm sure the Bringers did.
