Relationship Note on Calaudrin

Officer Estardes has offered to help me look for Petrae in the Gray Forest. I'm not sure why I even agreed to it except it was so surprising to have someone just...volunteer. Out of what I can only assume is kindness.
If I'm honest with myself, it's not something I wanted to do by myself anyway. I just didn't think there was any other option.

A Guardswoman that I met at a meeting. She was one of the ones who asked for a dagger. She is very nice!

I am so excited about the new doctrine for First Choice, even though it has not come out at the moment. I also like the new Temple, I'm amazed it has appeared. It perhaps cheered me up a little bit.

The purpose of a siege or a blockade is primarily the prevention of food or other supplies from reaching the city under siege. The siege against Arx was not successful in any measure of such things: at no point was our harbor closed. There was no successful blockade, there was no life-threatening scarcity of goods. We had a route for both food and supplies entering the city, meaning that our people -- our soldiers -- were not starving when it came time to fight.

Our enemy was simply incapable of bringing a blockade to bear. It is worth considering why this might have been, particularly in the context of some of the actions the righteous took during the final conflict itself.

I wasn't on the front lines. I did not hold a sword in my hand. I stayed at the manor and kept my household and the refugees calm, and then asked them to assist in aiding the wards that have taken damage. I did not put my life on the line as so many did, and so I feel rather guilty for feeling so tired. Like I could sleep for a week.

A little advertisement here, but I'd recommend that anyone who ever wants to have leatherworking done, at least for the time being, and have the quality be of an exceedingly wonderful make, then I recommend people try the Hide 'n Shadows. The Lower Boroughs could use the commerce to help the place recover in light of the siege.

Recovery efforts are moving along. Hawk Division has been dispatched to the Thrax Ward along with some supplies that I have prepared. Hopefully, this will assist in the wall's rebuilding, and relief for those that have lost so much due to this war. They were hit the hardest, and I think it's time to show solidarity. Of course, we should be mindful that all fealties require assistance in this time. Each Great House and their people did their part, all the people of Arx did. It was nice to see it. I just hope that we will be able to come together more easily in the future. I don't think this battle will ever be over for me, but. I know I did right in battle. We seek honor and glory in combat for a righteous cause... But no one should seek and desire war. The things I have seen, that others have seen. When I came to Arx, I didn't expect for that. To those reading this, I'll remind you to remain steadfast in Faith, whatever it is that you uphold. The battle was won, but this war is far from over, physically and mentally, for many. But perhaps there is some solace in knowing it was for a righteous cause. Yes. That must be so.

Time has not abandoned me, nor has this city -- but I have stepped away from both -- not out of neglect for either the tremulous, tenuous topic of time. Nor for the chaos of the city that has plunged itself down to the depths of despair, death hanging over our heads like a swaying pendulum, and back from it again. Into the breech once more. Out into the city are my uncertain steps, growing sure with every tick of the shadows along the floorboards. Every flick of my eyes as I catch my reflection as I meditate in Tehom's name upon my darker nature.

I emerge with more awareness. I acknowledge myself. In doing so, I become less frangible. I become the gold that seams the edges of cracked porcelain.

Beautifully flawed, made stronger through the destruction. Illuminated, not disguised.

I seem to recall much upset writings and speeches when Prince Abbas led a great deal of battles, many taking issue that he 'went too far' to win.

I also seem to recall what has been done recently with the Siege when we used poisons openly and hacked down the defenseless.

Pot. Kettle. While it is a victory on the break of this siege, I wonder the consequences and costs of these actions. Yet again the wheel turns and we continue moving on the same paths as before thinking it's new.

Never let it be said that the Thraxian Princess is anything less then a stellar accompaniment to any adventuring party. Especially an unexpected adventure, whereby she is compelled to leap onto a cranky warhorse and lead him to some serious ass kicking.

When the battle ended, I ordered my men to assault the stunned and wavering enemy.

This is not a decision I feel pride in, are you insane?

But I stand by it as the reasonable, logical decision. For all we knew, this enemy would, after shaking it off, attack us again, their numbers still enough to kill many thousands more of the Compact. I did not pursue those that fled. I did my duty. All this talk of 'writs' and 'innocence'?

Innocence is, for the most part, an illusion or an excuse. Writs? I would question people who speak so openly about such forbidden subjects. Thoroughly. But to this knight? They were enemies. Enemies who tried to end the world. I stand by my decision as I fought my way toward where my men were hanging on poles in the enemy camps. When people balk at my actions? I point to their corpses. Those people who you define as innocent? Did that, willing or not.

I have seen more than a few people talking about how they felt bad about falling on a helpless enemy. That's all they were to me. I stood on the walls at the Seawatch Gate, drenched in blood, and I loved every moment of it. A Formorian hit me on the foot. That's all, and I stood there, my boots soaked in blood, and I loved it. I love a good fight. It's why I laugh, why I smile. Every moment alive is a moment worth smiling for! Once you're dead, it's much harder to do so, my mentor always said. So we drench ourselves in blood and we laugh.

As for the dead, well. The point of war is to make more of the opposition dead than you, isn't it? We did that. Stop being so glum! Wait, did the rest of you not get triple rates during siege combat? Seems an oversight.

Relationship Note on Selene

Good friend, there when I need them. She seems to be one of the kindest people I've met. And she seems earnest about it. I do wish that the Whispers allowed for more an atmosphere of friendship, but alas sometimes paying to be a patron makes one feel a bit less connected. Still, she always has her ear to lend.
