Relationship Note on Calista

Duchess of Tor. Knew her brother a little when we helped them out against those Malvici usurpers. Killed me a bunch but she was just a baby then. Still a baby now, truth be told. Seems like she tries to get by on looks and charm. I'm immune. Hopefully for her sake she's got more than just that, though, else why the hell did we help Fidante insteads of Malvici?

Relationship Note on Ian

Met him twice in the Thrax ward. Kennex, I think. Had some kind of accident at sea and says he can't walk well. Granted, haven't seen him try but it can't be as bad as he thinks. Just lacks proper motivation. Which is why I'm gonna motivate him.

Not a fan of this elf treaty. Don't trust them. They're witches. Not that anyone cares to ask me what I think about it. Probably better for them they don't.

I'm starting to worry greatly about the size of the Society of Explorers. It feels like as more and more of our forgotten history becomes known, more and more people want to join. We're already reaching a size where I no longer personally know all of the members of the Society -- which could be good, but it also means I'm starting to have concerns about how well all of our members may be prepared for the field.

I feel like perhaps before I let anyone else into the Society, I should come up with a field exam -- make sure they're capable of all the basic skills needed to survive in the field, something similar. Though that's a difficult test to come up with; do you focus on tracking and cartography? On riddles and disarming traps? On fighting the things that sometimes pursue you?

This will take some thought...

Been a long time since I've written shit on the people I give a damn about. Never had to, you all know how I feel about you. Shit is mush and not needed. But I'm fucking married now and it put me in a...mood or something. So whatever you read here, take it with a fucking grain of salt. And don't expect me to talk about it. Feel fucking lucky I'm even writing it down.

Freja - The other half of me. Shit, the better half of me. Like looking in a fucking mirror too many times. You had plenty of shit to go through, so did I, if it weren't for you, pretty sure I'd of lost my fucking mind.

Darren - The best of us. Your old man would be proud of you. Still think you smile too much though.

Kieran - Fucking smartass. But someone has to be.

Drea - Auntie Drea. My second mother after we lost ours. Enough said.

Anze - *things are written and scribbled out* Fuck. I don't get you most times. Think you need to pull your head out of your fucking ass when it comes to you and me. Still, you're my brother and I'm there for you. Even if you hate the idea of it.

Calypso - You're a good woman. Don't know what you see in my brother, but it's probably something good. Glad he makes you happy. Be good to him and it'll be a good day to all you sister.

Eirene - Mal Brigadier General Tightpants. Enough said.

Alis - Short Stack. Best non-blooded sister I could ask for.

Edain - Holy fuck, I got idea what to say here. Doesn't drop in a fight for nothing. Need to teach me your tricks.

Kima - Hotty Baroness Miss Hot-Hot. Thanks for helping me get my edge back. Not there yet, but if not for you, I'd be far behind.

Khanne - Still my best friend, despite what you fucking think. Enough said.

Morrighan - Red. I got your back.

Donella - Promise not to be so fucking...eh, alright. Whatever. You'll get another shot, only fair.

Armel - Where'd you go, asshole. Drinking with you an Mal was the best.

Marian - Thank you. You fucking know the rest.

It seems that everything is getting better now. The store is getting a bit more clientely, as much as I would expect by now. Good side, days are busy. Bad side, I do have things to speak with too many people, however little free time I have.

I've increased my personal best at the Gauntlet to 65 marks. This places me at a respectable fifth, though as I've written before - self-improvement is the goal.

I do admit, I hope to one day hit triple digits myself. Even if I never duplicate the feat.

Relationship Note on Zhayla

I've met Dame Zhayla of Old Oak a few times now - we fought together on an imagined battlefield, back to back, against the fierce foes of the strawman armies. I am pleased to say we were successful in winning the day, and now peace and justice reigns in strawman-lands.

Which is to say, she joined me when I was sparring.

She impresses me. Her bearing. Her attitudes and ideals, what I've heard of them, and the fact that she is the second person I know of to score a three-digit marker at the Telmar Gauntlet. Old Oak has a fine woman for a Sword, and I am inspired by her to try harder and ensure that I am as fine a Sword to Blancbier.

Relationship Note on Aislin

I met with Lady Aislin Ashford at the Society of Explorers. She was Lady Niamh's beloved - her fiance. I wanted to meet her. I wanted to get to know her.

Truth be told, I wanted that before Lady Niamh passed away as well.

We talked. It was nice. She's a wise woman, I think. And I can see why Lady Niamh loved her so. There's a certain combination of competence and certainty that blends in a fine alchemy, producing a fine core of a being. Lady Aislin is that kind of person.

While I wish that the circumstances that led to our first meeting were not quite as grim, I do hope that - in memory of our lady - we will have a bright future as friends.

I arrived in Arx on the third of October, and though it feels as if I have only been here a few days, it is now the twenty-first. I thought I would have accomplished more than I actually have, which leaves me rather chagrined. The old estate is uninhabitable. Completely. The rubble has hardly even begun to be cleared away, never mind the chore of selecting and hiring a team of appropriate builders, renovators, and decorators. It is not for a lack of choice. Instead, I find myself presented with a pool of so many that going through and interviewing them all to get a grasp on their talent, skill, and price point, has become its own minor affair. I am certain to make my decision before too long, and for those who are, or who will be, in the same situation as me, a very kindly gentleman warned me to stay away from Regency Consulting, as it is run by swindlers and dishonest sorts of every stripe.

In more exciting news, I attended the Moonlight Tea Social hosted by the Lady Symonesse Marin'luna, our future Queen. It was, in contrast to the open Assembly headed by Duke Gabriel Bisland, decidedly pleasant. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that, with but exception to a few, they were attended by completely different people. One thing I must note, however, is there was a thread of commonality: both Duke Bisland and Lady Marin'luna were petitioned endlessly with questions. And both, in my opinion, showed a good deal more patience than I suspect many others in their positions would have been able to endure.

That said, I cannot escape the feeling of melancholy. The effects of homesickness, no doubt, for I have never before left Ostria and, for much of my life, never imagined that I ever would. I miss familiar sights and familiar faces. Though I have encountered several polite and welcoming individuals since my arrival in the capital, I confess I have not made a single friend. Not even an acquaintance in whom I might hope for such. It is very lonely here.

A new brother-in-law. Gruff, with a negative etiquette rating! I can't wait to introduce him to the Valardin Manor dining room. But most importantly, he makes Marian happy. Which means we welcome him with open arms. And I get to learn a lot of new swear words.

I think the scholars are also going to cringe at what this does to the family tree, since I am married to her cousin. So that will make our children cousins twice to her children. First cousins through the web of marriages, and then second cousins (??) by blood?

I always thought it was spring time that brought love in the air - leave it to the Redrain to prove me wrong. Of course, there has never been a happier occasion or more of a willingness to be wrong. I love love. I love witnessing it and the reaffirmation that it exists in our world. As a Whisper I have seen more than my fare share of unhappy unions, so to see so many matches made of love is rare and beautiful and I hope that time blesses you all with kindness and patience.

I've recently had tea with a number of the finest individuals the Compact has to offer. Overall the refinement and manners of those in attendance proved to be impeccable and our hostess proved to be purely exquisite. The future queen of the Compact, Lady Symonesse Marin'luna, was a most gracious hostess to her guests and she instilled in me hope for the future alliance between the Compact and the Nox'alfar.

I presented her with a humble gift in welcome to the city and she seemed quite excited to have received it. Striking, delightful, and altogether phenomenal. She surely made an impression on myself and I suspect she'll make one on us all with time!

Relationship Note on Fatima

As Keaton Hall nears completion, I cannot help but reflect on those who have aided either directly or indirectly in its creation. One particular individual, Princess Fatima Thrax, Voice of Thrax, was a pleasure to negotiate with in trade dealings and always swift and fair. I will remember this in my future dealings. I will also remember that invitation to dinner.

The future Queen seems to be a nice person from what I've gathered. I'm really interested in learning more about the elves generally, but not sure quite how to approach them.
