It's been a rather dull journey from Blancbier, but the first days in the city have exceeded my expectations. A change of pace is always refreshing, and there's certainly no end of people to meet.

Bright and shining city, though if what my family's hinted to be true, dark tides at the shore.

To those who are gone, we will not forget you.
To those who are remain, we will carry forward.
To those who are still to come, we will share the memories we bear and the wisdom gained.

Relationship Note on Thena

I've seen Thena Grayhope take on the vows of knight and godsworn with as much strength and dedication as any woman in Arvum. I've no doubt she'll shoulder the duties of Grandmaster of the Solace with honor. More than that, I'm proud to call her my friend.

Relationship Note on Margerie

As is the way of many whom simply do. Many would not seek to share their own deeds, boast of them, nor speak of them outside of the ones with whom such actions were partaken. It is once again a credit to Sir Norwood that you would admit his lack of a desire to share such things himself. For him he would likely say it was just his duty. For all of us who fight for the protection of the realm it is easy to simply look at that duty as the way of life, but it was one small action that I saw upon the field that day and one that I believe encapsulates the dedication and perseverance of the Valardin way of life. It was a shining example and of all the things that could and are recorded in these journals, I would see that such action would not be forgotten to the generations to come.

Dearest Riva,

It has taken me some time to pen this as my heart has had to steady its self. Lady Eirlys has died. I have drank, I have smoked and I have sat in utter disbelief, though she died in battle and will be remembered for her bravery it does not reduce the pain which I have endured.

I shall soon make a proclamation about her and all the lives lost during this war, loss is something we all know too well, so I mourn and offer my prayers to the Gods and Spirits that tend to her now.

Even the most despicable human being who lived in this generation is a human being with a soul to be taken back into the arms of Death, whose passing changes the lives of those close to him.

Having a public argument about which of you is mourning him more is completely fucking ludicrous, though.

Everyone has returned from the fronts, myself and many others from Stormwall, others from Setarco. Harlan was injured, but I have been tending to him, and everything is settling back to normalacy... or thereabouts. There are many memorial ceremonies although I rarely have the spirit to attend them.

In lighter thoughts, I enjoyed some visitors today, they were interested in my gardening and we spoke some about the matter. It's nice to have a distraction.

Relationship Note on Belladonna

Oh for goodness' sake...

Please forgive a poorly worded journal entry. What was written as '-- there is someone no one openly mourns --' should have been penned as '-- there is someone -nearly- no one openly mourns --'. I certainly was not attempting to corner the market on Abbas-mourning or diminish his sister's grief.

I wish the man were still with us.
I wish more mourned his passing.

That is all.

Relationship Note on Gaston

Don't make me cancel the lovely dinner with Agatha, Mirari, and Fianna that we're planning.

Have a poem to calm that temper. It's from a play I'm working on.

"Afeard of none!" His Fate's begun--
"No sprite or puck; no curst ol'luck!
Breeze in! Bob up! Hear, lassie wild?
You've not a storm to sink my smile!
Come! Hear it said--I dared it once.
Shall twice I date? I'd feel no worse!"

She breathed a whisper in his ear:
"Lassie wild has heard yer prayers!
Afeard of none? No sprite or puck?
What say ye 'bout a wash of salt?"

"No doubt appear with hope to fright!
With faith you'd steal the captain's eye?"
No dread, no awe--but have my word:
I'd damn you twice, an feel no worse!"

He fixed her with a steely eye, and
spitting, sealed his ship's demise.

It seems an age since I have set foot in the city of Arx -- and given all that has happened, perhaps it has been. I return to find that, during my time away tending to Ostria, there have been births, and marriages, and deaths. So many, many deaths. It is tempting to say that so much has changed -- but is that really possible, when it seems none of us ever truly know this city at all?

You are too kind, Princess.

I well believe it was the softer arts and intellect that you brought which protected the people of the city from those clandestine agents.

Well done. My heroine!

Duchess,

I do hope I have misread your latest entry, and that you are not taking advantage of anyone's grief to be a bitch. That, my dear, would be the very definition of gauche.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
