It's been nearly a year since I retreated to Lyon's Redoubt in order to bring Ryanin into the world.
I'm back.
(Please, don't get up).
I think it's safe to say (trust me I have been comparing her to all the other babies I have come across) she is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Her eyes are like blue diamonds, and her hair thick and dark. She was a large baby but I hear that is the hazard of having a Blackram-born husband. Healthy. Well fed (Read: Fat). And loud. She has Cahal's sense of humor, dimples, and loves to show them off with a laugh. Deep, genuine belly laughs.
It's cute, but no less than three people have told me I look a thousand times more intimidating now with the baby sling on.
I'm back.

A married woman. It still sounds odd as if the words should not come in contact with my name. When I was without title beyond Knight I would have brushed such off. My attention was better suited elsewhere. I knew once my duties shifted I would have others, such as providing an heir to leave all I have worked hard for when my time has ended, but that was a simple arrangement born from need not desire. If you would have asked me before, I would have told you I never suspected to find anyone to fill the role as neatly and completely as Cahal has. He is my partner and I have found what I never expected I would, someone who compliments my strengths with his own instead of highlighting weaknesses.

I have decided to start fresh upon my return to Arx and seek a like-minded patron and perhaps a protege who wishes to pursue the unknown together. It is never an easy relationship to cultivate, as the role of a Patron is to lead and aide, to showcase the goals and dreams of those they have agreed to assist, and the role of a protege is to grow and flourish, to assist where needed and to seek to share the goals they have with their patron while also embracing the patron's goals as well. It can be a precarious path, as opening one's self up to another can be difficult and not all are willing to sacrifice their time to another.
I wish to form bonds, to form relationships, to see what new heights these can bring. Now we just wait to see if anyone else is as interested as I am.

With my return to Lyon's Redoubt then sailing to the Saffron chain, I have found myself away from Arx longer than expected. It feels as if everything has changed and everything has remained the same all at once, which is both a strange and comforting feeling. Jenessa has done a wonderful job with keeping our lives in the capital secure, and I have found myself relying on her more. She is one of the reminders of why I do as I do, and who I do it for.

It has been a while since I have written here, at least for the eyes of all to see. Those who know my family well know about our struggles and the battles, we have fought. I have come a long way, especially personally since the events of the Gray Forest, though its memory and the lessons learned there burn as brightly in my mind as ever.
Having grown as a person in faith, character, and skill I have devoted myself along with my sisters to make certain that our name and our legacy is one that shines free of tarnish and displays boldly the strength of Lyonesse. We shall achieve heights that eclipse our past glory and honor shall be in every ounce of our blood.
Watch and see the things we shall do.

Times have been busy lately. It's to my regret that I missed Duke Laurent's wedding reception. I did already send them my best wishes, however. I'm sure we'll get the chance to catch up soon.

My return to the city has for the most part been smooth. My family will retain its close ties where we should, serve honorably under House Laurent, and be a guiding hand for the newly-appointed Count and Countess of House Keaton. They have an heir forthcoming, which is great news. I also met with my brother, now the Marquis of House Deepwood, whom I know will grow to be close to our family. I even have a young niece or nephew soon to arrive and could not be more happy.
Everyone else is securing their heirs it seems. To the point where I even give it thought. In due course I do intend to build the future of House Lyonesse and build it well.
But the truth remains that I am young and have many victories yet to see to, many worthy soldiers depending on me. Make no mistake that leading even the finest warriors has risk. Every time I ride onto the battlefield or give an order, despite every calculation I make, it could all go wrong. But I know in my heart that my siblings will take up the mantle, should ever I fall.
If I do, I can only hope it is with glory enough that my family and the whole of the Oathlands would be proud.

Although I'll never understand who someone can deal with certain types of things on a daily basis, I applaud those that can. One of which is Bianca. Thanks to you I have some answers and a place to go next. You have no idea the amount of appreciation that I have for that simple fact. I hosted a dinner at the Chateau this evening with Merek Black, our protege being the guest of honor. We spoke about our intentions down the road, goals, and also came to a business understanding that I think will make for a beneficial relationship.

Had a meeting with Duke Bisland and despite my fears about overstepping my bounds, I walked away with respect for the man. I'm not sure if he is always so serious, maybe he should get out more, but either way; It seems we understand each other much better and I look forward to working with him in the future.

It's also very rare that he opens up about his aspiration and ambitions, but he did today. He even asked how I would deal with such things. With a heavy heart, I told him how I really felt regarding the situation, those obligations that I have when it comes to the state of the realm and the possibilities of settling down with someone worthy of a Lyonesse.
I hope he understands what I meant, though, I'm sure I didn't curb his wanton for a partnership. It's really a shame that Eirlys and he had different goals.
