I'm leaving and for the first time in over twenty-five years, will live outside of Arx. I go with the people I love the most. I know that everyone here will endure just fine in my absence.

I completed my very first commission this week for Lady Kenna. I had a bunch of stuff laying around so I just kept adding more and more to it. She seemed happy.

How surprising it is that a member of the Peerage decided to overstep the scope of their privilege and ended up in a tavern brawl with a commoner.
If only the Iron Guard had ample coverage of the streets in that generally well populated area of the city. Hm.

I'm once again deeply concerned for Lord Riagnon's eating habits.
Lord Commander Silas sent me a very unique set of nesting dolls which I've left on the kitchen table for Esoka to look at.
Unfortunately my daughter cries when she sees them, so I might not be able to display them publicly except for special occasions.

I learned how to make a few things at the forge recently. Mostly rings.
I sent one out to Marquis Rymarr who replied with a very encouraging message.
Then I sent another to Lady Kenna who tried to return it to me initially but has opted to keep it.
Grandmaster Thena said hers was burning her finger, I'm little concerned about that one.
Marquessa Rhea does not seem to believe me that it's a ring but she said that she likes it. So I'll take that compliment and I guess I'm going to have to work on my technique...

My wife has not yet reacted to the fine boots I made for her. I spent the most time on those.

I told my wife that I was interested in taking up armorsmithing! She told me that I should stick to paintings of cats. I told her I could make her armor! She told me she'd have her armor made by 'professionals'. Something about being safe, she says! I'll just make armor for cats instead.

That was undoubtedly Lieutenant Deepwood's messenger tortoise, trying to make its way back to him. I'm impressed it made it back to the barracks so quickly, I just spotted it in the lower boroughs the other day as I was walking to work. I didn't expect it to return for another three weeks at least.

I haven't seen my family from Setarco in over twenty years and I don't suspect that I ever will again, I don't even want to. I don't waste time thinking about lost blood ties, some things are deeper than that.
But there is something profound and changing about having your own child. Estara Greenblood is my daughter and Esoka's. It's so strange to look at something so small (that screams so much, my gods, will life ever be quiet again???) and beautiful and know that it's tied to you.
I'll try to be a better parent than my own were. I promise that.

I don't know how to be a parent. I wasn't raised by people who knew how to be proper parents. I don't even know where my parents are, dead probably.
But I guess I'll just figure it out. I've checked out some self-help books on how to care for infants and I'm almost positive that I can assist in keeping this child alive for at least the first couple of days before I go completely insane. I've heard they don't sleep through the night for a month? Two months? Then it happens again at three months? Agh.

Sir Austen Ferron has been a fine guardsman and recently was promoted to the rank of officer within the Iron Guard. It's a bittersweet moment when you lose such an outstanding member of your organization to another so that they can follow their path. I hope that we've given him some additional tools that he can utilize after he swears into the King's Own.
He'll always have allies among his former comrades in arms.

It's a heartwarming night when your wife tells you she chose you for your adequacy.
And other reasons too, yes. I'm glad it stopped raining when it did. It made me feel hopeful, grateful. Maybe a little less scared.

Relationship Note on Esoka
Esoka reminded me that we're closing in on... years and years of being together. Four now, I think?
People like to joke that she's my better half. But if we're being truthful, they're not wrong.
She's kinder, more intuitive about others, better at riding horses, better at fighting, stronger, eats better, shouts louder, laughs harder and is an inspirational leader of soldiers.
I'm lucky if I measure up to even a quarter of the person that she is. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what I've done to deserve her sticking around as long as she has. I can only assume it's because of my hair.
It's probably the hair.

I turned forty a few weeks ago. Feels exactly the same as thirty-nine. Except now I have this horse that Esoka got me. It was a really thoughtful gift, even if I don't know the first thing about taking care of horses.
Pretty sure the guards like the horse more than they like me. Not sure i can blame them.

He always struck me as a little neurotic. But you can still be quirky and count as one of the good ones. Best of luck next time around, guy. I hope you don't come back as street cleaner or janitor.
