Relationship Note on Leola

Dame Leola works with my guard dogs frequently, honing their training and seeing they behave and know things like not to eat 'found' food or food given by anyone but the Saiks or it is something they are told is ok to eat. It is a relief to have them with me, knowing how strong and capable they are. I don't have to worry about they changing jobs or moving away or gossip if they sleep outside my bedroom door.

Relationship Note on Leola

If a knight calls you Grandmaster, is that sort of like when the King calls common folk 'Lord' or 'Lady' and nobody argues? I do worry that people might mistake me for having martial skill. Are these fighting words? I'm woefully out of my depth.

Relationship Note on Leola

Dame Leola gifted me this very pretty dress. Now I need A. a place to wear it to and B. weather to warm up so I won't be cold and C.a nice gift to give in return. I'm crap at this kind of thing.

My brother Olivian gave me a necklace to match it too. So I gave him some oakhide. To be fair, it was to trade for something else, but still. Enjoy little bro.

Relationship Note on Leola

SUBJECT: DAME LEOLA ALLENATORE

Dame Leola reminded me how quickly an opinion can change of somebody based on a single sentence, or in this case, two.

I want to preface this by saying that she likely did nothing wrong, and most of this is a result of my own sensitive, overemotional nature. I hope you read this and that's what you take away from it all.

"Revell sure is prone to overthinking, isn't she? Who has the time to be this up in arms about a misunderstanding?"

Nevertheless, this is /my/ journals, and I will document the good sides of myself as well as the bad, and you can't stop me! Honesty is difficult, and bloody, and embarrassing, and awful. But I aim to be honest anyhow.

When i first met Dame Leola in the Murder of Crows, she seemed pleasant enough. She spoke of her Lodges and the wonderful wildlife growing all around them all year round. I still hope I get to see it sometime. She even seemed happy to help me find a cart heading out there, and maybe I could even meet the person who takes care of the flora.

But then, in an instant, it all changed.

"I really don't want to be here for a brawl, this is why I don't come to the Lowers."

There is so much to unpack in that sentence alone. On one hand, no brawl actually took place - a boy let off some steam and a man and a bard diffused the situation in seconds. Secondly, she didn't even consider all the lives of people who don't have the choice to leave the Lowers. She spoke as if going to the Lowers was a frivelous past time, like going to the park or something equally as unimportant. It came off as arrogant, pretentious.

And then!

"Three times I've been here. Three times, there's been a fight. If it's not a common feature, it's something I'm blessed with."

She doesn't seem to understand the concept of a coincidence. It happened to her three times, therefore it has to be because SHE was present and SHE is the center of the universe. Otherwise, it had to be something that happens ALL THE TIME for it to make sense.

I know, I know. It was likely no more than a passing remark, with no malice or thought put behind it. Or maybe there was, in which case I appreciate the honesty. Truly, I am not sure why I got riled up by it. Her thoughts, opinions.. they should all be unimportant to me.

It might have to do with not eating properly since that incident at the Shrine of the Thirtheeth. As it turns out, I get hangry. (Get it? It's hungry and angry, combined!)

Relationship Note on Leola

I did meet Dame Leola not in the best of circumstances, on my part. My hangover was not enough to dampen my respect for her or her work in the lodges. Not that it was her own doing, as she was the first to admit. She has some fascinating things to say and I am curious to talk to her more.

She took the crack across the shins from Blessed Brigida better than some I've seen.

Relationship Note on Leola

The Abandoned do not call themselves 'Abandoned' because /they/ broke /their/ oaths.

That aside, I don't understand. People want to be safe, I get that. But wild places are not safe places; that's why they're wild places. This promise doesn't sit well with me. Are you trying to fill up every single spot in Arvum so that there simply aren't any wild places any longer? Nothing but endless farms and fences and walls and cities? That won't make you safe either. If the wild places are gone, the things that lived in the wild places won't have any place to live except alongside you.

Relationship Note on Leola

It is a stunning realisation to have, knowing you have been part of creating history.

I shouldn't be surprised, really. Dame Leola Allenatore, Paladin of Groves, Daughter of the Woods, Rider of Whale and Porpoise...

Really, I could go on for hours listing her accomplishments, and still have a ways to go.

Since coming to Arx, we've shared a bond, I'm proud to say. My love for the gods is deep, and working with the Dame was pleasing to me. And it culminated in this. Months of trips, speaking to varied folk. Convincing lieges to allow the use of their land. Watching the construction, hearing the word "Leolan Lodge".

Hearing the speculations.

Dame Leola Allenatore has become immortal, in a way. Her legend and touch on the compact will echo for generations. And all the people who aided her, whose lives she touched and touched her in turn, have my gratitude.

Now I need to start working on a design for a memorial statue commemorating the project.

Relationship Note on Leola

I am proud of the strong effort made to establish versions of the Lodge of Petrichor across the Compact and I am honored to have worked alongside Dame Leola. Today marks a /grand/ achievement! I shall celebrate by spending time at the orchards of my favorite space and reflect upon all that has been accomplished.

Relationship Note on Leola

You're very welcome for the gift, Dame. One does not often have the pleasure of meeting someone who is so very much your reflection, in every way. It's almost impossible to forget you, in many ways I feel like we already know one another.

It will bring me great pleasure to see the worship of Petrichor grow through your efforts with the Lodge. As always you and the Lord of the Deep Woods have my blade, my words and my devotion.

Relationship Note on Leola

I'm so glad I was able to have a chance to catch up with Dame Leola and speak with her. It had been far to long since I had done so. As always, the conversation was full of things to share with one another. And I deeply appreciate her helping me with furthering my knowledge of farming and the like.

Relationship Note on Leola

Scholars, please, add the following note to my White Journal:

In the untimely OR timely (depending upon how well you knew me and liked -- or despised me) end, I commit ink to these parchment pages the following:

Should I die unmarried and without heirs, I request that my protege Dame Leola Allenatore (the Paladin of Groves, a knight of Southport) be elevated to the title of Lady and adopted into House Saik and stand in as my heir. For all of her years of faithfully unwavering service (even if she still wears cotton and remains unyieldingly polite) she will receive her due reward (NOT punishment) and be offered the mantle of Voice for the House and act as plenipotentiary for the current Baroness -- or anyone else.

By my hand, blah-blah-blah,

Lord Karadoc Saik.

Relationship Note on Leola

She'll hate reading this, but if someone asked me to point out one of the most inspiring and truly exceptional people in all of Arx, Dame Allenatore would be one of my immediate choices. Integrity, humility, intelligence, bravery and optimism are all facets that make up this rather remarkable knight, and her devotion to Petrichor and His domain is to be admired. Someone I am honored to know.

Relationship Note on Leola

Looks like I have taken a mature step forward in being a contributing member of society and bettering my city.

[ Aside: Does that sound dramatic enough? Good. ]

Dame Leola Allenatore has formally -- seriously, when you piss her off she gets MORE polite, it's honestly the best thing that I've ever seen -- accepted my offer and has become my protégé.

[ Let that sink in for a while. Yeah. ]
